This is interesting. I'm German and I used to live in New York. I never noticed the intrusive R. I do, however, hear it a lot in British English speakers... Not Scotland or Wales - but England.

Intrusive R used to be somewhat prevelant in NY however this speech pattern has dissappeared in NY decades ago. I am a 43 year old native New Yorker and no one I know has ever used the instrusive R

Hi Gabby, your vdos are really informative & consists really great knowledge pertaining to American accent. Very recently I have started them watching....ok, here, in this vdo the words "pasta & sauce" the word "sauce", does it starts with vowel sound? Since I am hearing it with s sound. Could you please explain? Thank you.

Ok, I got it...it's "pasta and sauce ", here immediately following word after "pasta" is "and". Ok, understood, I listened to vdo again & I got doubt cleared. Thanks.

These intrusive words is what we would call the accent? I had trouble listening to those when I just first started listening to natives. Eventually I got used to it, but never really came to give it a more profound thought to it.

"R R" is "Erre, "Erre "( Mistake, Mistake) but after I hit the target...& When I get the target ,the Universe say: OOoohhhhh...!& an hour I'll get your heart & you'll not without me like a mothballs can't living without a old closet in the dark room waiting the moon arrive.Thanks & bye!

@keithdenyer3937
@keithdenyer3937 3 ай бұрын
The linking R is between two words, where there is not one in the spelling. Joining the two smoothly. The intrusive R is within the one word, to make an easier sound of the two halves. So drawing becomes drawRing. It is common in British English.😊

I watched a video from the BBC that apparently suggests that using the intrusive R is the proper way to speak. I was nauseated. I hear a KZbinr from Australia insisting on pronouncing Alaska as “Alasker”. I know he can’t control himself but it sounds very pretentious, and for me, disrespectful. The late President Kennedy would run around talking about “Cuber”.
