Thanks for your video. I hope you’re having success with the reselling job. I currently am doing DoorDash and Spark deliveries for Walmart and they just under 30 grand last year but I had to pay about 3000 in taxes with no benefits. It sucks and I just got T-bond, my car was totaled there’s dangers in every kind of job you do but that sounds ridiculous about how loose the control is in prisons. I’m sure not all prisons are like that that’s crazy.

I was a certified nursing assistant level 2, med tech Med aide. We always got treated like shit by all the nurses we were the lowest of the low. The nurses just look at us like we wipe all peoples butts but it was a lot more than that.My boyfriend just applied to be a correctional officer in North Carolina. He’s at the final hiring process. He goes to one more interview and then I’m pretty sure he got the job. I worked as a certified nursing assistant level two and at Alzheimer’s and dementia unit it was bat shit crazy every night after two years that I couldn’t do it anymore and 12 to 16 hour shifts residence elderly beating us up mental health issues total chaos. Can’t wait to go back to school to be a nurse. The correctional officer job that he applied for I think it’s a level two he’s going to get because he has prior military service he does construction now he absolutely hates that he’s sick and tired of it. He makes really good money but, he wants something more for a career. He would like to become a police officer maybe in the next 3 to 5 years.

I wonder if my experience would transfer well to such an environment as I work in a facility that deals with people who have suffered from brain injuries and can be just as dangerous and volatile as prison inmates infact a few of the people that were living as participants where I work have been in the prison system and were transferred from prison to the place I work because it was deemed they were not in the proper environment for their mental condition so I sympathize with your experiences the majority of the things you listed were possibilities for you apply for me and my job the major difference being the amount of people I'm responsible for keeping track of and why they are there being the brain injury it's set up like more of a rehab center to get them back to a level where they can function in society

@clautzenheiser
@clautzenheiser 3 жыл бұрын
I agree, not for the weak. You have to go into the field knowing that you're chances of having a "bad" day are pretty high, and ask yourself if it is worth it. This is a job that someone has to do and it takes a certain person to cross that door and step inside. Getting hired and working in the prison is not enough in my opinion, you have to be GOOD at that job and unfortunately corrections hires almost everyone that applies which causes problems in and of itself. Tough job and tough life.

Do u ever get less nervous. I am looking to going into to this job I’ve actually just put my application in. I am a 5’ 1 female and I am sooo nervous for all the training and I am also nervous for the job. Could u pls tell me anything that might help us little short females that might not be taken seriously. I am so scared that what happen to your friend will happen to me.
@clautzenheiser
@clautzenheiser 3 жыл бұрын
Here is my opinion. There are many factors that tie into you being a short female. Are you working around sex offenders or general population? Gen pop for the most part will not assault a female staff member unless you basically "deserve" it. What I mean by that is you pick on them or belittle them in front of staff and inmates. Show them respect and for the most part they will show you respect as well. But, being a female in a male prison, you will be challenged every day and they will attempt to corrupt and compromise you. DO NOT bring your personal information to work and keep the personal talk about yourself to a bare minimum. Now for sex offenders, SO's prey on the weak and the chances of them trying to take advantage of you is greater, unless you stay in shape and don't put up with their disrespect. Inmates will easily pick up on fear, and you WILL be scared because it's normal male or female. It all depends on what you do with that fear. Run and cry or stand up for yourself and don't take crap. So ask yourself what kind of person you are before going behind those doors. Now for being a short female, from your looks alone you are never going to be taken seriously to be honest AT FIRST! You will be challenged very hard when you start and depending on how you handle the inmates, word spreads like wild fire in the prison. You want the inmates to talk about you like this " Forget it man, she isn't worth trying to get cause she gives the cold shoulder, she's not a bitch but she just ain't the one". Basically don't be a "Bitch" to them but demand their respect and follow the rules. You will have to write them up and punish them according to your facility. Once word gets around that you don't flirt with inmates and you're just there to do a job...they will lay off a little but they will never give up. This is very long but important. Don't get compromised because none of them actually like you and they don't respect you like people that aren't locked up do. When you start at your unit, find a female that you can tell gets respect and all the staff/inmates respect and make her your best friend. Stick to her like glue if she has a lot of years there already and pick up good habits from her. If she is worth a shit, she will take you under her wing and show you the ropes. Now for the tough thing to admit To be completely honest and this is a very unpopular opinion I guess, I personally do not think any females should be working around male inmates for multiple reasons. And this comes from my years of experiences. There are plenty of male officers that aren't worth a damn but here is why I don't think females should work there, and this is just a broad observation and isn't true all the time but is most. Female staff are smaller than most inmates, females are constantly flirted with by staff/inmates, you cant do strip searches or pat downs sometimes so that makes male officers upset, Officers that have high ranking will flirt with you and show favoritism cause problems, if you are injured, male CO's will react differently because your a female and may cause the situation to get worse, inmates will not respect you because of your appearance alone (just like a weak male). I hope all of this helps and best of luck!

@clautzenheiser

Well, the counsellors are treated differently. To be honest I found it common that Counsellors are normally people that want to help, and are very nice. Unfourtently, I noticed that nice and trusting people get taken advantage of far too often in prison by inmates and other staff members alike. I feel like it is too hard to seperate the inmates that respect the counselors versus the ones that just want to take advantage of them.

What can a person do to advocate for inmates being beaten inside repeatedly? What laws or policy can we start change.?
@clautzenheiser
@clautzenheiser Жыл бұрын
Well depends… if this act is actually happening, it is a matter of time before someone says something to the media, wether it be another CO or a family member of the inmate. I have worked in several prisons and i have not seen an inmate that was repeatedly beat. But if your question is in regards to an inmate beating another inmate, then unfortunately if the system and staff neglects to do their job, this story does not have a happy ending. Unfortunately inmates that are constantly bullied and picked on, normally they go to segregation areas of the prison and try to be celled up by themselves. As for something you can do, I would recommend demanding to speak to the warden of the facility and threaten to go public with the news. I hate to say it but it is very hard to prove anything because what happens behind those brick walls is a whole other world and the public is cut off.
