I haven’t started yet, just did the physical, but my positivity is why I thought I would do well. I liked your video because it affirmed that if you think negative it will be that way. Thank you for the quick video. It helped me more than all the jargon long ones snd was to the point.

I retired with 28 years of service. I got retirement points for being a veteran. Over 90 percent of my co workers were vets also. Job security, retirement benefits and healthcare are worth every year of sticking it out. There were even times we didn't get paid due to the state not passing a budget. I'm not perfect and I got a day on the "street" for not paying attention to a fight that happened on my watch. I took the punishment because I was wrong. No one required medical attention. I often wonder if the fight was staged to get me off the block. People I started with went back to mining coal several months after starting. While in training they used to talk about crawling around on their hands and knees in water in the mines. I'm not sure why they went back. I had 47 days of paid vacation when I retired. My wife and I are living ok on my pension. I have a nice IRA which I draw a small amount from every month. It was well worth the time and effort of getting up on holidays and week ends to go to work. I would do it all over again.

Too many people on corrections complain about the job without realizing the benefits!

In this kind of jobs, you have to respect the inmates and treat them professionally inorder to gain respect.. You have to be Fair, consistent, and have Sense of humor.. when I was a Co, that's what I practiced and Godwilling, I didn't have any issues with the inmates...I remember an inmate called me " Hey Rookie Co." I Said, Hi Rookie inmate. Some of the Cos were More complicated than the actual inmates.. When it came to internal shit, I always kept my mouth shut and kept my eyes and ears open to perform my duty.

Excellent advice…, Thanks. I work at the county jail for the Sheriff and recently suffered an ankle accident which required serious surgery. Fortunately.., I was actually able to have some time off and returned to desk duty. I am thankful for them keeping in touch with me during my absence.

It’s going great. I’m at a new facility now. Inmates are a bit more serious than the Child support and drug dealing I/M that I was dealing with. I couldn’t be happier with this job. It’s never the same on a day to day basis.

I understand exactly what was mentioned about job security, and other reasons to become a correctional officer, and I don't respect any of them that are all about this involving what says it is just another job! Now if the reasoning I involving people who are all about becoming correctional officers, with the understanding that it is a calling to do service to others, because you want to make a difference in the lives of other people, and not making a career out of doing this, then I do respect the reasoning for wanting to become a correctional officer!

What's it like for the Recreation Therapists? how do the inmates treat them? is it just as dangerous?
@copscorrections24944 жыл бұрын
Generally the role of a recreational leader is recognized by the inmate as some thing which affords them a release from their daily routine. That doesn’t mean that the job isn’t dangerous for them but they are perceived as less of a threat to inmates than officers.

When i started at corrections they wanted me to immediately become a sergeant due to my military background. I declined, when i was asked why? I stated that i had never been a CO and wouldnt know how to be a sergeant since id never been a CO. That was the smartest thing i did, because iv seen others do it since then and end up fired because they didnt know how things worked. Start at the bottom and learn, learn from fellow CO's especially the old schools, learn from your rank both the good and bad so you know what to and not to do and say! Fast leadership is bad leadership!!!! Earn it
