I visit family in Mexico City, we are Sephardi, and go to the local markets for our fruit and veggies, (we raise and slaughter the Kosher animals we eat, or get meats from a Kosher meat market. Although we usually stay away since the old butcher was selling to both other Chasidim in the area, and others that he knew was not Kosher). The primary reason for the post is that there are grasshoppers and crickets sold in the market, both live and dried. So the mention of Grasshoppers in passing was interesting.

So I am going to Israel on an educational tour and was told research kosher dietary restrictions, because a prior trip attendee tried to bring butter packets into a meat restaurant. I had planned to eat kosher for a week to understand the rules . . . only to find that, as a vegan, I've basically been doing it for 10 years! The only non-kosher foods in my kitchen are some cooking wines and vinegars.

I think I m following kosher with out knowing it…. I don’t drink milk after eating meat… just because meat it heavy for me l like to drink stn light or that help digestion…. & in my religion, orthodox Christian during fasting we do not eat any animal products at all meat, milk, eggs,…. So we are so carful cleaning meat cooked utensils for fasting days…… some use different utensils for fasting time, they just not comfortable cooking with the same utensils even after washed.

But WHY, when and what made these rules, how did it make sense to them? How did it come to be? Why should I devote myself to this lifestyle if there’s no reasons why there’s just rules on how

kzbin.info/www/bejne/nnfdnpusp712oQ OK here’s a video that shows more of a WHY rather than WHAT. And as I thought and suggestion, the reason for not eating pork came from sustainability, it became unsustainable to keep pigs. Chickens provided meat and eggs, so it became banned. There is no reason they aren’t unclean. It’s now just a tradition that is associated with being inherently Jew. It reminds you that you’re Jew, so just follow the Torah. It doesn’t matter why they wrote it it doesn’t even have any play honestly, whether or not your relationship with God is good or bad it’s just one more thing to do.

As a jew kosher law has made me absolutely despise Moses the fact that I can eat a goat that will literally eat out of the trashcan but somehow I can’t eat shellfish I can’t enjoy scallops or lobsters that are yes, bottom feeders, but only actually feed on plants like algae and seaweed🙄🤦🏾‍♂️when judgement day comes I wanna throw hands with Moses

My understanding is that the purpose of Kosher was discourage meat consumption. In Genesis it says that we are to eat plants. So that was G*d's intent. But since humans aren't perfect we are allowed to have meat, but have rules to make it more of a pain in the ass. I am a vegetarian and have thought about adding meat to my diet. But then I would have to get new cutting board, mixing bowl, utensils etc just for meat. Not to mention that the soy milk I use in my coffee is Kosher dairy. So if I want meat I have to wait 12 hours between cups of coffee or try and find vegan milk that's parve. Yea it's just too much hassle. Impossible Burger is certified Parve by the Orthodox Union. It's good to fool meat eaters. So that's a much easier option.

Correct. As stated in the video you typically wait 6 hours after consuming meat before consuming dairy and vice versa. I am a vegetarian that recently went Kosher. I have thought about introducing some meat back into my diet. But it would be a huge hassle. I use soy milk in my coffee. It's vegan, but due to possible cross contamination it's certified Kosher dairy. So I wouldn't be able to enjoy my coffee with a mest meal. I dink a fair bit of coffee. So if I wanted meat I would have to wait 12 hours between cups of coffee. Not to mention having to buy a cutting board, mixing bowl, and utensils just for meat.

I know that this is an old comment. But I felt the need to reply. Snickers candy bars are certified Kosher Dairy. The Kroger brand ice cream is Kosher Dairy. The Kroger brand cheese puffs/balls are Kosher dairy. The Bauducco wafer cookies are Kosher Parve. There is no shortage of Kosher junk food. Next time you go to the store go look for a kosher mark on junk food. You would be surprised how many have the Kosher mark of the Orthodox Union Ⓤ. So Kosher doesn't automatically mean healthy. That said, going Kosher has made certain junk food off limits. I can't order Dominos pizza anymore because the kitchen isn't certified Kosher. Thankfully there is a Kosher pizza place here in Las Vegas. I haven't been there yet. But it looks amazing.

KOSHER are more complicated compared to HALAL ... Halal are as long as no Pork, Liquor, clean, amphibians, predator animals, and etc, Animals slaughter by People of The Books (Jews and Christian) are Halal (by following Kosher way or islamic way), No separation of utensils, beef cheese burger is halal,, hehe,,, All fish are halal, catfish also halal, Fruits eaten by bugs also halal.. My muslim friends , they went to US, if no halal restaurant they seek Kosher restaurant, We are all from the same root, of Abrahamic Religions, make peace and respect to each other, may God grant us Heaven. Amen

Any recommendations on who ships out kosher meat? I had a random 5 minute conversation with a stranger 8 weeks ago, then I suddenly became a vegan without notice. I have gained weight after switching from a 6 month carnivore diet with steak, chicken, lamb (No pork) To a high veg/carb diet. There's nowhere that does Kosher slaughter, because I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana
