SKY SOLDIERS!!!! You can join the Navy. You can join the Air Force. You can even join the Marines if you want. But you gotta join the Army if you want or hope to be a Sky Soldier and part of the historic legacy of the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team!!!!

I think that the Marines kept one or more airborne platoons a while back; I'm not sure if the history. I would expect them to have some sort of airborne formation.

I met a young trooper in Oklahoma City Airport one night. He and I were awaiting a flight which was delayed because of ice to Dallas. I was so proud to see he had been assigned to the 173. Must have been 15-20 years ago. We spoke for a while and eventually I told him I had served with Co. B 503, 173. Vietnam. 67-68. He said, and I still have it ingrained in my 77 year old brain. “You are the ones that make us proud “.

ed evans, Alpha, 1/503rd, 173rd. Airborne Brigade, 65-66. I was on Hill 65, Nov. 8, 1965 with Alpha. I was with headquarters, not the ambushed Charley Company. I was with our CO when we were down to one chopper to extract and for a few hours it looked like we were not getting out. Engineers cut the LA out of the forest, which meant it was tiny. We were on a Hoe Chi Mein trail offramp in War Zone D. I'll never forget the body bags.

My cousin in law served with the 173rd in the Korangal, most dont and can’t understand what those boys went through in that god forsaken place but every opportunity I get I always tell him how proud I am to have a man of his caliber in my family. A true warrior.

They were the "Fire Brigade" in Viet Nam. Wherever it was hot and things were in danger of falling apart, the 173rd were sent.

I was on Hill 65, 1965, Nov 8, my first operation. I was one of the "troopers" on the LZ the last hours of the operation wondering if we were going to get out. It was Hill 65, War Zone D where your uncle died, most likely. The book, "The Hump," goes into the operation. We had over 40 KIAs, although at first the number was in the 60s. FYI. ed evans, Alpha, 1/503rd, 173rd. Airborne Brigade, 65-66.

I was a November LRRP for a short time in '67. Proud of it. I'm old now (78) but I don't forget it. I'm afraid our Country is likely to destroy its self.

It seems some folks are determined to make it sound like it's going to the dogs. Beware of politicians because they are no more trustworthy now than in 65.

I never like the term herd; it sounds like cattle, and there's a story about it going back to Okanawa and it makes us look silly, like a herd of bovines. ed evans, Alpha, 1/503rd, 173rd. Airborne Brigade, 65-66.
