Hi Phil, thanks for the videos, I’m one of the people you talked about making them for, lying on my back questioning if i made the right decision. I had an L5/S1 microdiscectomy on July 19 and I came out of surgery with significantly worse leg pain than before, but I still feel hopeful that it will improve as the nerve straightens out. It’s helpful hearing your perspective on nerve pain and how we perceive it.

Hi Julia thanks for reaching out to me. Recovery is slow and painful from this and the possibility of having a second surgery very real. Nerve pain sucks doesn’t it? I feel for you. I wish I could say or do something to take your pain away but I know can’t , l can give you my email which is dingleyphillip@gmail.com if you’d like to chat over the phone about any questions you may have.

Hi Phil , thanks for the videos and updates. I had a MD six weeks back (Jan 9th 2024). My first couple of weeks were ok , now i am in level 7 pain first thing in the morning and a constant 1-2 throughout the day. Hearing you speak in tuning out the pain and living with it resonated with me i am trying my best to accept it. I have this constant fear that i have reherniated my disc as i have very similar pain pattern before the surgery but at a different intensity. I hope you feel better !

First of all thank you very much for watching my videos. I wish you didn’t need to go through this sort of thing in your life but unfortunately it happens . Recovery from my surgery was slow and painful too, it was 10weeks for me to recover from my second surgery until I went back to work. I totally understand where you are coming from thinking that the disc has let go again, I still have the same thoughts now and then a year and a half on. To ease my mind I did have a MRI at 3 and 6 months after surgery, for this helped a lot, to know that nothing was wrong and it was I now what I call my fake pain. I too still wake up in a level 7 pain and only get about 4 hours of pain free sleep, but my life is so much better than before, no more chronic back pain just nerve pain which is better to live with If you are very concerned, there is always an MRI that can be had to just help ease your mind and allow you to get into your recovery exercises without worrying about making things worse. Movement is key. I wish you a very speedy recovery and that your nerve pain eases in a timely manner. Warmly, Phillip.

Hi there Phil. Thanks for this great vid. Im currently in my 5th month of leg pain from blowing my l4l5 disc. Been offered surgery by one of the best surgeons in the country, but I'm very hesitant and adamant that i can let it heal by itself. I hope you have recovered well and your pain troubles are over.

Wow 5 months of putting up with pain, if it’s anything like the pain I was in I give you credit. Leg pain is still my friend but I can live with it. I still don’t regret having surgery. I hope your pain comes to an end soon, I feel for you it not a nice place to be.

Thanks mate. Funny you say friend.. I actually call mine Harry the hernia 😂 it's better now then back in Sept when I couldn't walk without assistance, and had major weakness in the leg and foot. Been doing alot of physio and contrast hot/cold therapy, but now it's just a constant dull ache. But after watching your vid I'm going to treat it as "the fake pain" but saying that.... I do have bad days where I think F**k this I'm calling the surgeon!

@@nickhenderson2181 If you get to that point in life, or you can no longer handle it. Don’t be afraid of getting surgery. I know there is a lot of negative stuff around back surgery but it’s about having an understanding of what it does. I no longer have the regular back muscles spasms which a suffered from for nearly 30years. The physiotherapy helped keep the surgeons knife away, but ultimately I should’ve done the surgery earlier instead of leaving a life in Pain like I did. Most people think that the micro discectomy Surgery doesn’t work because they’re still in pain afterwards. The reality is if the nerve is damaged it takes a very long time if ever for that nerve to heal. I hope things continue to get better for you Warmly, Phillip

I had 25% of L4L5 removed after i ruptured it in 2019. 'ants' and numbness on inside left leg. No ongoing pain after 9 months but I have 'hurt' it twice since. those events take 7 to 8 weeks to resolve. Dehydration and stress cause inflammation on me and that starts one of the above events. Good luck.

@@zukjeff 2 years on for me nerve pain in both legs but still way way better life now and i agree with the dehydration and stress causing inflammation

Saw all your videos. Your journey is helping a lot of people. I am going through my share of painful days due to L4-L5 disc herniation. My doctor has advised me for a surgery as it’s been 3 years now. I am still not sure if surgery is going to fix me or make it even worse.
@philsrandomstuff2392 Жыл бұрын
Yes, the thought of the surgery making it worse is very scary, as we normally only hear about people who have a poor result. I can only speak about me on this, but I do not regret getting the surgery done, it has not made anything worse only better. The surgery for me has relieved all my pain, but the resulting nerve damage from the disc. Herniation is what I am still living with maybe if I had the surgery earlier the nerve might of recovered quicker. Thank you for joining me on my journey.

Hey Phil. I had the surgery last Thursday. I am feeling much better. I do have the knife pain from the surgery and having my painkillers. But one week after the surgery, I don’t have any regrets. I don’t know what will happen in coming days but I am hopeful. Thank you again.

Did the surgery help you or make you worse?

Yes the surgery definitely made me better. Yes I have nerve pain in my legs but I no longer suffer from chronic back pain. Are you looking at getting surgery?
