The embargo is one thing but in Cuban governors use the embargo as a excuse for everything but the embargo don’t excuse the lack of cleanliness in the country or the corruption with in the Cuban government or it does not excuse the oppression put on its Cuban people put on by the Cuban government.. like the lack of freedom of speech and so on.. also Cubans only have 6 Channels and in all of them they try to stuff communist and misleading history facts down your mouth.. and in school they brain wash kids and force them in to “el servicio” in other words the military.. is that because of the embargo as well??? That’s the truth! Cuba sucks ass BECAUSE of the communist dictatorship

I was just in Cuba down and Santiago de Cuba. did not see rampant begging or homelessness like in the USA or Canada for that matter. What people need to remember is that prior to the revolution Americans and American organized crime ran Havana. The people of Cuba were illiterate. Cuba has one of the highest literacy rates and education rates in the world. What I saw was a lot of hospitals. Children are all in school and in the tourist areas they were doing pretty well for themselves. Yes a lot of Cuba is pretty rundown. But visit Haiti or the outskirts of the resort areas in the Dominican republic and you will see that Cuba has it really good in comparison.

The revolution is great and generous. The revolution taught all Cubans to read and write, to later let them read and write what they wanted. The revolution eliminated neighborhood brothels and made of Cuba a great brothel , Cuba ceased to be a brothel of the USA to become a brothel of the world. The revolution brought electricity to places where there was none and then cut electricity to places where it already existed. Poor hygiene, stress and poor nutrition makes you sick, but after you are sick your healthcare is "free". The sneaks or brigades of quick response can break your head but after that the doctors are gonna close it. The revolution erased the exploitation of man by man and implemented the exploitation of man by government. The revolution promised parents that the fruits would be for their children , we are in the generation of great-grandchildren and we are still waiting. The revolution overthrew a dictatorship and implemented a monarchy. The revolution eliminated the deads in the streets and replaced them with the deads at sea. The revolution sent a man to the moon and ended up turning off our sun.

I think the reason Cuba is still operating as a repressive regime is that its people can't escape easily because Cuba is an island. East Germany, for example, fell hard when its people found an escape route through Hungary after that failing communist country opened its borders to Austria. Tens of thousands of East Germans packed their meager things in their horrible, inefficient, smoke-belching Trebant automobiles, or boarded packed buses and trains and went on "vacation" to Hungary and never returned. They eventually got through to Austria, and from there to West Germany where they were given automatic citizenship. East Germany could not plug the leak and that spelled the end. The already basket-case East German economy collapsed, the Wall came down and East Germany was free and joined with West Germany. Cubans have no such options. It is a tough situation because there is no easy way out for its people.

I think everyone in this comment section wetting themselves over how well socialism has done in Cuba should realise many Cubans can’t survive without having multiple and/or illegal jobs. Professional workers such as Doctors, Nurses and Engineers get paid pretty much around the poverty line. Even if Cubans did get a decent wage they live under a one party totalitarian state.
