I wondee how Cuba would be if the US had not had such a harsh embargo on the country..surely this hurt them?
@juliovaldes1377

The embargo is one thing but in Cuban governors use the embargo as a excuse for everything but the embargo don’t excuse the lack of cleanliness in the country or the corruption with in the Cuban government or it does not excuse the oppression put on its Cuban people put on by the Cuban government.. like the lack of freedom of speech and so on.. also Cubans only have 6 Channels and in all of them they try to stuff communist and misleading history facts down your mouth.. and in school they brain wash kids and force them in to “el servicio” in other words the military.. is that because of the embargo as well??? That’s the truth! Cuba sucks ass BECAUSE of the communist dictatorship

@Krónikathat code states its only illegal if they try to overthrow the government by force or violence. Socialist and communist parties are allowed in the democratic process, and I think that's much better than having parties trying to overthrow a government through violence.

This is what hyper capitalists and imperialists seem to forget; the revolution in cuba has benefited the vast majority of people in the country despite the shortages (primarily caused by the blockade of course). As the guy about 30 seconds in outlines: if it weren't for the revolution i'd be a slave. The revolution has provided serious benefits to the people of Cuba regardless of western propaganda. The BBC, to their credit, have literally provided nothing but talking heads; firmly neutral. They're not like commercial media or worse like Turning Point USA etc.

I was just in Cuba down and Santiago de Cuba. did not see rampant begging or homelessness like in the USA or Canada for that matter. What people need to remember is that prior to the revolution Americans and American organized crime ran Havana. The people of Cuba were illiterate. Cuba has one of the highest literacy rates and education rates in the world. What I saw was a lot of hospitals. Children are all in school and in the tourist areas they were doing pretty well for themselves. Yes a lot of Cuba is pretty rundown. But visit Haiti or the outskirts of the resort areas in the Dominican republic and you will see that Cuba has it really good in comparison.

But do not compare Cuba with its neighbors , we always were better than all of them together.We used to employed their people. We know we can do much much better and keep all what you see.Look what we did in Miami. How many Cubans in USA do you see homeless? Is true young people know how to read and write ( classes are highly Marxist inclined so when you graduate you are lacking knowledge), but we were better than most of the countries in America in this department this is in our DNA and some of the world after a devastating war of independence that destroyed the whole country.Only in 56 years our indicators were goods.Today schools and hospitals are crumbling as the whole country, the infrastructure and roads have no maintenance for longtime and need a lot of attention the country looks like is abandon and we know we can be better everything is neglected . pharmacies

My family and I spent 4 years awaiting the Visa to come to the US as a marked citizen. The Cuban militia and the Comite Para La Defensa De La Revolucion, will try to make your life a living hell when they learn you have applied for a Visa to leave for the US. Look up, google 'Cuba CDR' this is a system of rats, a network of informers made out of citizens on the island. Republicans and Democrats both steal form the working class to keep their rotten system going. It a bipartisan shell game. Reagan signed the first immigrant amnesty bill. The revolution is great and generous. The revolution taught all Cubans to read and write, to later let them read and write what they wanted. The revolution eliminated neighborhood brothels and made of Cuba a great brothel , Cuba ceased to be a brothel of the USA to become a brothel of the world. The revolution brought electricity to places where there was none and then cut electricity to places where it already existed. Poor hygiene, stress and poor nutrition makes you sick, but after you are sick your healthcare is "free". The sneaks or brigades of quick response can break your head but after that the doctors are gonna close it. The revolution erased the exploitation of man by man and implemented the exploitation of man by government. The revolution promised parents that the fruits would be for their children , we are in the generation of great-grandchildren and we are still waiting. The revolution overthrew a dictatorship and implemented a monarchy. The revolution eliminated the deads in the streets and replaced them with the deads at sea. The revolution sent a man to the moon and ended up turning off our sun.

I think the reason Cuba is still operating as a repressive regime is that its people can't escape easily because Cuba is an island. East Germany, for example, fell hard when its people found an escape route through Hungary after that failing communist country opened its borders to Austria. Tens of thousands of East Germans packed their meager things in their horrible, inefficient, smoke-belching Trebant automobiles, or boarded packed buses and trains and went on "vacation" to Hungary and never returned. They eventually got through to Austria, and from there to West Germany where they were given automatic citizenship. East Germany could not plug the leak and that spelled the end. The already basket-case East German economy collapsed, the Wall came down and East Germany was free and joined with West Germany. Cubans have no such options. It is a tough situation because there is no easy way out for its people.

Cuba needs a leader who is able to negotiate with the United States and lift the Embargo. Cuba must have the support of the United States in order to prosper. But they're stubborn and want to do things their way while benefitting from the U.S. and the U.S. leaders have not been willing to do that.

They will probably only lift the embargo if Cuba goes capitalist which I hope they don't

The USA is the problem, not Cuba. Cuba just wants good life and prosperity. USA goes out of their way to hurt them.

Life in Cuba after Fidel Castro, is the same as with him in power. They made sure the next leader will follow in Fidel's footsteps. It is not like all of a sudden Florida Cubans will be welcomed back.

Seems fine there. Every country has issues. Hell, the US is full of them. But the paranoia the “West” has spread regarding Cuba as some Red Menace seems unjustified.

@@thismonstrosity2137 NO, YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT CUBA ! But anyway, you come here to spill shit. TWO MILLION PEOPLE fled from a population of 6 million. I would LOVE if you could see the houses of those who escaped in 1980. They were practically on the floor. Bourgeoise ? You make me laugh, IGNORANT !
