I put the Smart Key Quicksets on my home. Didn't realize they were bump-proof, but am mighty glad to discover they are. Another big benefit of them is that you can re-key them yourself, quite easily. That's what that little slot next to the keyslot is for (you stick a tool into it, then with a few twists of the old and new key, that changes the key that works with it).

If it's an off-the-shelf lock with a keyhole It can be bumped. A lot of the manufacturers are now making keyless electronic locks which are a good option against bumping. Here's our favorite by Yale. If the battery is die there's a battery terminal jumper on the outside so that you can still get into the lock. amzn.to/46YM7ra

Yeah that strap is a good idea and it looks like it works. But we have to go in and out of the home through the actual front door. So we can't use that. The half lock. Can you lock and open that from outside the door?
@LocksmithRecommended
@LocksmithRecommended 4 жыл бұрын
It is meant to be used on doors either when you're in the home or doors you don't routinely use to go in and out of. Here in AZ, almost everybody goes in and out the garage door, so you can secure your deadbolt on all exterior doors.

@@LocksmithRecommended Thanks for responding to my Query. Yeah, that's what I thought. Here, some may use their garage doors because they park their cars in the garage. Most don't park their cars in the garage here. And a lot of homes don't have an access to the garage from the house. Most use the garages for storage, child play areas for safety purposes and work shops, etc. My double door, double car garage is my shop, it's full of tools. My machine tools are all on wheels and I park them outside in the drive, even in winter when I do a lot of work in the shop. I live above the so called "Snow Belt," so winters are severe. A lot of break-ins occur using the garage doors. A few years ago about 8 of my neighbors were broken into through the garage doors. They used a large pry bar for leverage under the doors on one side and lifted the doors up sufficiently that they could wriggle under. Once in of course they managed to open the doors fully. The imprint of the pry bar was left in the rubber door gasket that is on the bottom of the doors. They tried mine but failed. I have large additional locks in the rails inside on both sides of each door. They are positioned above the bottom rollers. They probably separated a disc trying to raise my heavier, insulated garage doors. To protect my front door access, I rely on the locks I have and the steel outer storm doors that I am able to lock from the outside. They can still be penetrated, but it's time, trouble and noise. Also I have high intensity, motion detecting lighting all around the property. And I just recently bought all the cable I need to install video cameras around the property. There has been a definite rise in break and enter theft in the last couple of years. Looking at some of the people that the police are catching for some of these crimes. It's people that are new to the country that we are importing. They do not reside in the areas that they have been breaking into. I live in Canada, toward the north in Ontario. Always looking to better my security.

Great video, I really like the strap, I just wish I lived in the US (not...lol).... Have you started shipping to Canada yet? I'd also like to know the name of the thing that was locked to the end of the bolt on the Mul-T-Lock? The part number? How does it work? I'm a Lock Picking Enthusiast and I've never had or seen an mlt deadbolt with that feature?....the more I think about it, I'm not even sure if I've ever seen an mlt deadbolt period...lol The ones I've seen are usually euros or paddys... Almost forgot the half deadbolt...that is really smart, specially for a hidden panic room , with a big book shelf screwed right to the outward swinging door. It's always been a hassle before, now you just remove the door knob and install one of these, the old hole will be covered by the bookshelf and it really doesn't need to be locked from the outside anyway... Again, thanks for the post...

my thinking is any unpickable lock comes down to the key way by preventing the insertion of any sizable picking tool a novel approach is the for ever bike lock if they used 6 pin disk cylinder its unpickable and un-bumpable no need for a side bar or anything fancy on the cylinder the only features a cylinder need to have anti bump and impressionism were it was defeated by aluminum tape but picks are useless and do not thing you can bump it since the key has be fully inserted before any tension can be applied but extra bump protection never hurts

If you see a video of someone picking a high security lock (and it is not fake), rest assured that the lockpicker has trained for years in general and probably spent many days on that particular lock. And when making the video, he might have restarted the recording numerous several times until it went as smoothly as expected. If your lock is a quality product with no gross design flaws, other (more destructive) ways of opening your doors are more likely than picking.

Hmmm... I was really interested in the strap, but you never mentioned the name of the product. I checked in the description & you not only don't provide a link to where I can buy one, but you STILL don't mention the name of the product or who makes it. You mentioned that we can buy the strap on your website, but I was just there looking for it and couldn't find it. You give a link for the deadbolt flipover device b/c it's "much easier to use". That may be true, but I'm pretty high functioning so I think I can master a strap, & I need a less expensive, portable option. I don't want to spend the money to have a locksmith come & install the flipover device, AND I don't even know if I CAN install it b/c I will be moving into an apartment & don't know what the lease will say about modifications like that. I wish you would at least tell us the name & manufacturer of the strap in the description! Now I'll have to spend another hour searching the internet.

@jdlfpr 4 жыл бұрын
@Michael bell Well yeah, clearly if someone wants to get in your house they're gonna do it. What I really mean is, is it worth the money and can a lock that's on the bottom be bumped just a like a regular lock. I know that there are some locks that cannot be bumped, but can be picked if given time. So, I'm just wondering if its really worth the money to spend that much on a lock or not. As I said, if they want to get on they're going to. But I'm sure a burglar would prefer the easier lock over a more complicated lock to pick.

Aren't wafer locks easier to rake/zip open? This isn't a much more skilled attack than bumping and can be almost as quick, it's probably the first two attacks I learned, you can easily file a rake or a diamond pick (I used a metal strip from the side of an old hard drive mount from a laptop) and a screwdriver, heck, I once got the wafer lock in a money box open with a paper clip with two zigzags bent into it, no need to order anything or get a key. Surely if you're going to learn to make a bump key or order online, you'd get a pick set or fashion a rake as well?

When the lock was released it was taken to a locksmith convention. It was attempted to be picked 40,000 times. Only one locksmith successfully picked it. Over the years, ways to bypass that lock have come out and tools to get past it have been released. But against lock bumping, it's still as one of the best out of the box locks available

Multi lock isn’t pick proof; even their interactive core has been picked. No lock is pick proof or unable to be bypassed given the right knowledge and time, that said the Assa Abloy Protec is the leader in pick resistant locks; it is susceptible to destructive acts, core pull and pressing.

Hi Chris. We shot this video over 8 years ago before it had been bypassed by people learning how to and then sharing how to get past all levels of security on KZbin. You know who I'm talking about. I agree. With enough practice, time and knowledge, anything can be bypassed. We did a more recent video, Can All Locks be picked. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2OVaZWKotd_ec0 that discusses it. Luckily, most people don't have the skills, training, or knowledge to get past the Mul-t-lock, Medeco, and Assa locks. But there is one product that makes any deadbolt pick proof and bump proof when installed correctly. You can see that product here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hF7bfmeYd7SYic0 Thanks for commenting and watching. Hope you're well!

smart key locks are junk, there is several ways to get them, the news is out, and by the way, you can still bump wafer locks, the y11- for example, the technique is a little different than actually hitting the key though, how many people do you know that have y11 on there garage door? I tried this out in the field, the main locks in the building were medeco!!!

There are ways to get through all locks, but none so simple and well known as lock bumping. It takes essentially no skill and just a couple of dollars. Smart Keys are in my opinion one of the best over the counter products for bump and pick resistance deadbolts that is generally available. They definitely have their issues though (plastic parts for example). Our recommendation is for off the shelf bump key protection, get the smart key. If you want the best protection, consult a locksmith to get the best product for your given needs.

That depends. The Kwikset we discuss is bump and pick resistant as is the high security product. You'd have to be a well trained expert to pick either of those. The Kwikset can by bypassed in other ways but it is the most bump and pick resistant of the mass produced residential products. The product we install in this video will make almost any deadbolt bump and pick proof. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hF7bfmeYd7SYic0

In general yes. This video was shot before the lpl even posted his first video (I believe) and before he and Bill invented tools to bypass several locks that had been previously thought unpickable. There's nothing like making a living off of compromising everyone's security. 😞 Although there are locks that are still pick proof, because there is no keyhole on the outside of the door or because they lock the deadbolts so that even working keys won't open them.
@thatkidthatplayscod

It's funny how you consider it compromising security when in reality they are proving it's security through obscurity. What they are doing is causing lock manufacturers to actually improve their security instead of keeping the same flawed designs.

@@thatkidthatplayscod I'm going to have to disagree. Nearly every lock can be bypassed. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2OVaZWKotd_ec0 But providing that information online so that anyone, at any time, can look it up is completely irresponsible. Take safes. There are ways to get into high-security safes. I'm talking about the safes that jewelry stores use and banks use, really good safes. People do get locked out of them, people with combinations pass on, locks fails, etc..... But you don't see professionals who break into safes posting KZbin videos on how to do it. They have too much respect for your property. LPL compromises people's security. He shows videos how to get into every lock of your house, and people love him for it. It's crazy.

I've heard about him. He's awesome alright. Awesome for burglars. Putting everyone's homes and property at risk by showing how to bypass locks. If he can't find a way, he invents one, like when he used a blow torch in just the right spot. In AZ we go in and out of home through the garage, but if that's not an option, thanks to LPL, you're hosed.

We released this video because of the hundreds of videos already out there on how to bump locks that don't show homeowners how to prevent it. We felt we had a responsibility to show people how they could try to stop this bypass attack. Anytime we release a video it's addressing something that is already out there, and then we show the best way to prevent it.

SmartKey may be resistant to bumping, but they can be opened with a $2 key blank and a pair of vice grips. Not a good solution. You'd be better off getting a Schlage and putting in an anti-bump pin (or getting a locksmith to do it). And good grief man. Do you seriously not know better than to say things like "pick proof"? There's no such thing. There's not a lock on the market that hasn't been picked by someone somewhere. Even the Protec2 - the gold standard - has been picked. Granted there's maybe 10 people on the planet who can do it, but still.

We were discussing lock bumping. Kwikset locks have some serious flaws, as do most locks, but for lock bumping prevention, they are one of the best. FYI. I have a lock on my door right now that is pick proof. No one, not any KZbinr you've ever seen, not any locksmith, not anyone, can pick this lock.
