Just for connecting with people, I am going to pursue my Management Engineering degree(3 years) from the Polytechnic University of Turin. After graduation or during my bachelor's studies I may deviate to BBA, cause recently I am more interested in Business rather than Computer Science

@BrandonRHayes4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jiya! It's definitely not necessary to study computer science in high school to pursue a degree in Management Engineering. You can master in a variety of things after Management Engineering. Options include a Master of Management Sciences (MMSc) or a Master of Applied Science (MASc)!

I have one question. Is there real “science “ in this field. I believe management and engineering are completely different things. Correct me if you think I’m wrong
@BrandonRHayes7 жыл бұрын
Ajay Rawat Hi Ajay, of course there is real science! Management Engineering at UW is still an accredited engineering program. This means we have to take certain courses including chemistry, physics, thermodynamics etc. There's a lot of Science in this field that looks at improving efficiency and effectiveness of processes and other things. That being said, there isn't much science in the aspect of research.

Hi.I’ll study M.E. , but in my country(Turkey) it doesnt known and its only a major in 2 unis.I dont know what should i do cause i think M.E. doesnt known like i.e or like any others at other countrys too?? Should i change my major?
@BrandonRHayes Жыл бұрын
Hi Çağla, Ultimately, this is a decision you will need to make. I know that some schools in Turkey have great courses that cover similar mathematical optimization and operations research-related topics. These topics are similar to what I covered in my undergraduate degree in Management Engineering at the University of Waterloo. You should not worry about whether your program is known; mine certainly wasn't the most well-known. I often need to explain what it is, but that gives me a great opportunity to frame it beneficially. You should be concerned about whether or not you enjoy the program, whether or not it will add value to your future, and whether or not it suits your personality and interests. Those are the most critical things, and if you do that, you'll find success! I hope this helps :)

At the University of Waterloo, Management Engineering is it's own accredited engineering program. See my blog post in the video description.

At the University of Waterloo, it is its own program under the Faculty of Engineering, Department of Management Sciences. But you can take a Management Engineering Add-on from some other engineering disciplines.

How are the professors for the MSCI courses? Are they passionate? Is there opportunity as an undergrad student to work with profs and do research?
@brandonhayes5575 жыл бұрын
The professors range from terrible to great as with professors in any faculty and at any school. It also depends on your learning style and personality type as to whether you'll like and get along with them as with any other person. I would say all of them are passionate. Some are passionate about their teaching, others about their research. There is opportunity as an undergrad to work with professors and do research across the University. I hope this somewhat answers your question. I wanted to be open and honest.

@BrandonRHayes6 жыл бұрын
Management Engineering is an accredited engineering program. This means when you graduate you earn a bachelors of applied science. I feel like you would need to do extensive studying on your own in order to get accepted into such program after taking office management.

Hi! Brandon Hayes, Video was informative about the program. You mentioned software skills & mathematics ( ie. calculus). Can you explain the depth and difficulty level of these studies? I am really interested about Management science at Waterloo. Your reply is most valuable.
@BrandonRHayes7 жыл бұрын
Hi there. I am glad that you have found my video to be informative. I am assuming you are referring to the depth and difficulties of the software and mathematics skills. In general and engineering you will find that the math is very difficult when compared to high school or even college level courses, but in comparison to pure math courses they are easier. It all depends on how you handle and interpret information. Engineering math is very applied, unlike pure math which may not always have a real world application. This is similar with software, the level of depth will not be as deep as say in computer science or software engineering. If you generally enjoy math, science and the bigger picture than Management Engineering at Waterloo may be for you. I hope I have answered your question.

Greetings brandon from the philippines. in one of our courses we have to report on the difference of engineering management and management engineering, can you help identify its difference? or does it really have a difference? hoping for your reply. thanks
@BrandonRHayes7 жыл бұрын
Keenen Balio Hi Keenen, Management Engineering as I state in this video is an engineering discipline focused on improving efficiency and effectiveness, optimum solutions and innovative solutions to real world problems. I.e. reducing wait times in hospitals, reducing shipping times etc. Engineering management, I would assume, is more geared towards how to manage multiple types of engineers.
@keenenbalio20597 жыл бұрын
thank you for your fast reply. so basically, you mean management engineering deals with a lot of problem solving in the real world while engineering management stays on the engineering field? ☺
@BrandonRHayes7 жыл бұрын
Keenen Balio well engineering is the real world as well, right. Engineers design things. Civil engineers design the buildings we live in. Electrical engineers design the electrical appliances we use in our homes. Mechanical engineers design our vehicles. Management engineers oversee those same operations but focus on the bigger picture to decrease costs, increase profits and ensure the project works well. While engineering management needs to be able to facilitate communication and keep that bigger picture in mind as well. So they're similar.
@keenenbalio20597 жыл бұрын
thank you so much for your time. i now have an idea on its differences. it is really a big help. thank you so much and God bless

You can achieve anything if you work for it. If you don't you won't get anything. Money is a byproduct of success. So yes, of course you could with a Management Engineering degree from the University of Waterloo. Will you specifically? Well you decide that.

are there similar opportunities in terms of jobs, and salaries/growth with management engineering vs the traditional engineering degrees like software, electrical, etc?
@BrandonRHayes6 жыл бұрын
Management Eng is a new field of engineering at the University of Waterloo, but Management Engineering itself is not a new concept. It can be considered similar to industrial engineering in a sense. We typically steal jobs from other engineers (i.e. chemical, electrical, mechanical, software) but we work hard to do that. My classmates who steal software jobs for example do a lot of programming and developing on their own because its a major interest to them.
@hocbirda40016 жыл бұрын
In your experience, are there ample job opportunities / co-op opportunities with management engineering compared to other ones
@BrandonRHayes6 жыл бұрын
@@hocbirda4001 yes. There is a lot of opportunity
@hocbirda40016 жыл бұрын
Brandon Hayes ok. One last question. Do students that took man eng generally regret taking it after a couple years or is it the other way around. Also is it easy to switch engineering disciplines after first year?
@BrandonRHayes6 жыл бұрын
@@hocbirda4001 It depends on your interests. If you're not interested in the possibilities, you won't enjoy it and you will really struggle to pass. Perhaps this would suit the people that 'regret' it as you say. Switching engineering disciplines is not typically easily done, though it is possible.

So first, what I have discussed is Management Engineering, which is different from Engineering Management. You'll notice in the video, I am taking about a specific program. At the University of Waterloo, you can take any engineering discipline, which I encourage you to read online about, and add on a option in management sciences. Your grades would have to be high enough etc.
