This helped me so much! The calculation on the other hand is a bit confusing to me. In school we learned to calculate the MAP like this: Systolic + diastolic + diastolic = ... divided by 3 = MAP. It's easy to remember and makes more sense to me.

for me it's the opposite.. this makes more sense to my brain and the other way confuses me

Both formulas have same answers

You can also Use this formula 2(DBP)+SBP divide by 3. 2(80)+120/3 = 160+120/3 = 280/3= 93.333 round off = 93mmHg

Thank you.... But why is pulse pressure taken and divided by 3?? It supposed to be the summation of systolic pressure and diastolic pressure divided by 2..
@IWGTEngineering Жыл бұрын
Probably a bit late for you, but for anyone else reading this: The diastolic phase is twice as long as the systolic phase. Thus to take an average, you take the sum of the terms (systolic + diastolic + diastolic) and divide by the number of terms (3).

Thanks, but we have to know why we do this formula, why we divide PR by 3???

Lets say you measure and patient has BP 180/170 would you take it town and record or think something wrong with measuring? If you think its wrong, what no. Difference then is adequate difference between systole and diastole that will make you take it to record.
