What is metal spinning? Bill Juaire of New England Copperworks demonstrates.

2.14.2013: Bill Juaire, of New England Copperworks, Inc., demonstrates the craft of metal spinning by making a small copper bowl from a disc. A copper disc is centered on a lathe and spun the while Bill uses special tools to push the metal against a steel chuck of the appropriate bowl shape. The bowl take shape quickly in his skilled hands, much like the clay on a potter's wheel. More complex shapes, such as architectural finials, are made in sections and then soldered together with nearly invisible seams.

Did you say the heaviest material you use is .015 thick? Trying to work this out for some small projects.

Hi. Can you please tell me what do you use to lubrificate de copper? Can you post a new video spinning a different shape but bigger? Thanks, Ernesto
