GW supporting Mordheim again would be a double edged sword. On the positive side, a supported game means new players and a bigger community. On the negative, GW would send cease and desist letters to the current free community sites, so no more free stuff for everyone who wants to play Mordheim.

Here in Italy we got the "official" group that keeps up the community, reviewing the warbands, organizing narrative events and tournaments, they also suggest shops, 3d modelers or resellers for every Warband they currently accept for the events. So yeah, there isn't a company behind it but if the community is active and solid you won't really feel that much difference.

My friends and I got into Mordheim when it first released. We probably played that game more than any other while it was still alive. I still have all my models for it and the rules, and I’d love to give it another go. I just need to convince some people to give it a try with me.

I think for most people Mordheim has become a reason to build and paint grimdark models and scenery, and this seems just as popular, if not more so, than actually playing it. I have also seen people trying to convert Mordheim to Warcry rules. I have built loads of warbands but never played.

So I mentioned under one of your other videos that I run a Mordheim campaign in Ireland. It's amazing how enthusiastic the group are (loosely we're 16 players but I'd say 12 regulars). I've tried to run a 40k Crusade back in 9th and another lad ran a short Necromunda campaign. Both lost steam. Mordheim is 6 months in and going strong. It's just fun.

I feel like I've been on such a similar journey to this channel - I was getting full hyped for AOS 4e and the prospect of spearhead. About a month ago I re-fell down the mordheim rabbit hole and have started to build the terrain from Devs & Dice. The only thing I find hard about playing mordheim in modern gaming is not having alternating activations. Although I guess it's part of the 'mouth feel' of playing an old school game.

Still playing it, and still the best game GW has ever released; the more you play it, the more you'll realize that it's not clunky, but the most elegant game they've made besides Space Hulk.

Having listened and enjoyed this review, I will suggest again you have a look at Dead Man's Hand. I appreciate you don't do westerns however it is the rules I think you'll find interesting. You could imagine it being a sci-fi or fantasy setting by just changing the names.

What's with the subtitles in recent videos? Is it just for non-core-game videos, maybe? Is it appealing to new crowds? Still they are at least 90% accurate, so not bad (just distracting to this old head)

15:08 If you are playing D&D for a more narrative Mordheim experience you are going to be sadly disapointed. WFRP 4th Ed exists, is set in the same world (albeit a later era) and is vastly superior to D&D to start with.

We typically run 3 campaigns a year. We run them over the course of a two month window giving people 7 days to arrange a game and get it played. We of course offer filler games against dummy warbands or monster hunts if for some reason a person is not available. Typically we have 8 to 12 players. I stopped playing 40k back in 4th because of school, i picked it back up in 8th because of warmachine mk3 imploding the community. Everyone was singing the praises of GW and getting the edition right. But I quit 40k again in 8th, because iron hands. I don't enjoy a game where the dev intentionally imbalances the game. There were a few moments before that where I was looking sideways at GW before that. But I was mostly just happy to have my orks back on the table and I was having a blast repainting my daemons.

You're looking to get to 7 to hit. So if you have a BS of 3, then you roll a 4+, you reach 7. If you think of it like D&D, you are rolling to hit an AC of 7 with a d6, adding your +3 bonus to hit.

I hate the fact that people think that if new stuff isn't coming out the game should be avoided. Do the rules still work? Yes. is the game still fun? Yes. Then who bloody cares? I sure don't. But then again I don't play any D&D past 3.5 since I hate 5th ed (granted, I'm not a huge fan of D&D in general since I think the rules suck, 3.5 just sucks the lest, and I rather be playing cyberpunk or sci-fi. That I find that GURPS does everything I want in game and can run any setting I want to play in), and I also won't play 8th ed or higher Warhammer 40k since.... well... if you don't have anything nice to say and all that (and I wanted to like 8 since there are things I do like about, on paper at lest) so I really could care less about if a game is live or dead or whatever and a games popularity has no weight on my desire to play it (or not, I won't hate a game just because it's popular mind you, it's just not going to play a factor in if I'm going to play it or not). Now I do understand, sadly, why people play games (even if the hate them, like I know almost no one who actually like D&D as a game but play it because they think they have to) just because they are "current thing" but that goes into some very, very sad aspects of general human nature and how most people do no have true agency. They could, but most wont make the effort despite how freeing it is. I also don't find Mordheim rules clunky at all, in fact the only change I would make is to have the shooting roll be updated to just your target number. Not the Weapon skill though, I hate how dumb down that has become. I personally like the fact your two hit roll is based on your skill relative to your targets skill, it makes is so that that two equally skilled warriors will find it hard to get a telling blow on each other while letting them chew through mooks with ease. The hit/wound/armor roll is actually easier then D&D. You roll to hit, which have to do in D&D anyways, you then roll to wound and in D&D you now have to roll damage but instead of adding up dice and subtracting HP, you're just comparing your attacks strength to your targets toughness and seeing if hurts them or not. Much quicker in my book. The only odd one out is armor saves but not every model is going to have one and it's an easy roll (though it should be stated that in pre-D&D Blackmoor, a targets AC worked more like a Warhammer armor save, though it was 2d6 roll under). Now the rule book on the other could use some clean up and polish. Not because of the dreaded "modern sensibilities" (which I could care less about, sorry not going to change things to appease some tourists looking for new current thing) but because they could honestly be explained better with better examples given (I actually don't mind making it so the rules make sense, especially for new comers who actually come to play a wargame/RPG, and not just people who want to say they played current thing then complain that it's "too hard" for them because they never really wanted to play a game, just say that they played it). I know this comes off as a bit grumpy but I am a bit tired of people who might not actually be a good fit for wargaming trying to force their sensibilities on to it. Once again, I think that bad or clunky rules should be changed or fixed, but we really need to take a look at if it's the rules that are truly the problem or is the expectations of of people who want dumbed down, and oversimplify, "I win" kind of games so they can say they played the game so they can show they are bandwagoning but not actually have to put the work in.
