AWESOME! I have always heard of zoo but never seen a tour of it! I am definitely putting it on my bucket list! That swamp area was outstanding! I think Deej Jr. wanted to roll down that hill so bad, but the "man" in him just wouldn't let him! Tell him I said he better do it now before he gets old and his bones will hurt! Lol! In the teen years young men become very guarded of their actions. Figuring out what is and what is not ok for others to see them do. They still love Papa Deej even if they seem a bit distant.

Wow...what a great zoo. The only zoos I have been to are in St. Louis, MO and Houston, TX. Your zoo looks great! Makes me want to roll down a hill too, lol. Thanks for a great tour along with your sidekick son.

The zoo looks really awesome! I haven’t been since I was a little kid. I totally remember rolling down that hill but didn’t know the significance of it until you explained it...but totally makes sense. When I moved north to MD I thought the hills there were mountains. 🤣 I remember going to that petting zoo and there always being some giant animal in there....maybe a cow? That seems so unsafe because kids were climbing on it...haha. But it was the 80s and who knows maybe it was my kid imagination and it was something not as huge. Great tour of the facility. I love how the huge type of trees lend shade all over the property. 💕

The zoo has changed SO much since I was a kid too! Do you remember the spiderweb rope thing to climb on in the play area? Do you remember the prairie dogs where you could crawl into this tunnel and pop your head up in this clear plastic bubble to see the prairie dogs up close?

NOLADEEJ omg! Yes, I totally forgot about that stuff until you mentioned it but especially the prairie dog area! Yes, total re-vamp in comparison to our youth!

The black guy in the elephant photo is my dad. I spent a lot of time at the zoo during summer. My parents didn’t want to hire a baby sitter so me and my brothers spent most of our time at Zoo Camp. I loved and still love the zoo. When I moved to MN, everything changed. There were more hills, WAY more snow, and not as much black people as usual. MN is great but there is just something missing from it that New Orleans has.

I hear your homesickness!!! Well, you don't have the very hot summertime there. But, I don't think I could handle the winters up there. I live in Mississippi. It's hot in the summer here, too. But not like New Orleans!!
