NFC stands for Near Field Communications and if your smartphone is NFC enabled then you're in for a world of convenience at your disposal. It makes pairing things a snap and will enable a host of other future possibilities for your phone. This wireless standard isn't used for much right now, but think of all the possibilities!

I have a S3 LTE and I have a genuine samsung car mount, I put an NFC tag on the back of the car mount and programmed it to turn off wifi, turn on gps, data, loudspeaker, etc on the first tap, and then on the second tap, when I take my phone out of my car, turn off gps, data, turn on wifi, turn off loudspeaker etc. However when I go over bumps or the road gets rough, the NFC thinks that I am tapping it again and switches to the options I want when I am out of my car. It works perfectly if you only drive on smooth highways, but I usually run into trouble 10-15 minutes into a trip, and have since given up on the idea. Now I just have the NFC tag mounted on my dash, not on my phone mount. =)

not sure about how I feel on NFC, it honestly doesn't seem secure & seems like a way to create work arounds on other security measures. Interesting tech, and hope it improves.
@DePhoegonIsle
@DePhoegonIsle 10 жыл бұрын
It's the fact that NFC is read/write, and that's what the problem is, and a lot of the time if they have your phone authorization is a click away, ignoring the possible exploits to bypass login screen for a smart devices like tablets & smart phones. (also not mentioning the real chance there are hard coded bypasses put in by the phone makers for 'unknown' reasons) not saying it's bad, just saying there seems to be a genuine lack of concern for security issues, given how it can integrate with the entire device.
@DePhoegonIsle
@DePhoegonIsle 10 жыл бұрын
psst. that's why I never bought into the whole smart chip RFID credit/debit card. Though, it may be harder, but who's to say it's impossible, which concerns me as all it'd take is one compromised popular app and suddenly their chances with getting a compromised NFC pad with custom commands to work with more phones is greatly increased. I know it's older school to worry about it, but why build a feature in that can be easily exploited & isn't able to be verified by anyone outside the companies.

Is nfc always “on” in iPhone? The concern is that the NFC is always active, emitting 13 MHz radiation, and this electromagnetism or frequency might not be good for people. Many people carry their phones in their pants pockets; imagine constantly having this frequency radiating towards them

Your bus pass is probably rfid. NFC has to be a powered radio. What I do is, my pass is slightly smaller then my phone, so I stick inside my case. still get picked up by the machine, and just as convenient. Better yet, it even works when your phones out of batteries.

Ken-Evert Wahlmann then you are out of luck. But I still don't think nfc is the solution. I've had numerous times my phone die on my commute back. And while a spare battery would solve that problem, a passive card would be much more convenient at that point.
