What is not Jesus?

"I was never too keen on Jesus just being a person. I was a bit shy of people as a boy and I wasn't too keen on God as a father because I was a bit nervous of my own father who was a very good father but a bit strict with me. So I was much happier thinking of Jesus as I do of sheep and the grass that I trod with my big clumsy feet. Then Jesus began to make more sense to me and I began to realise how the whole of nature is sacrificed for us."

I'm thankful to John and the people who help him share his message. 3:29 - Such a beautifully delivered message, and yet it's unfortunate that you have convoluted matters when you speak about sentient beings with central nervous systems who feel pain and suffering, vs plants. With this trivialization of the suffering of beings who have brains, lungs, hearts, and bodies --in contrast to plants, many of which created with their seed in them, so that when they are eaten we actually aid in the propagation of their species. Eating plants cannot be compared to slaughter; to the intentional slitting of throats; the rape, torture, and murder of sentient feeling beings en masse.

One of the signs I know that points to the authenticity of what John is saying is that for many Christians (specifically Protestant) he isn’t “Christian enough”, and for many non-christians he’s “too Christian”. Sin exists and we are effected by it. This does not mean, however, that we are under a God Who is looking to crush us and punish us. Both of these things are true, and what John says reflects this.

I think he himeslf doesn't necessarilly frame things as negatively as it might sound....but the concept of sin and what it says about us as humans seems to find fault with what is divine too.

​@@matthewstokes1608 they are concepts superimposed onto an experience of selflessness after the fact. Had I grown up with the Church of England I may be tempted to do the same, but for those of us who are not Christian it can seem like proselytizing. I would add that there are very many spiritual teachers of Zen and Vipassana who were raised Jewish, yet they rarely attempt to frame the experience of emptiness in those terms.

That said, through his books and YT he's shown me stillness, and that meditation is something much more simple, natural and ordinary than I previously believed. For that I am eternally indebted to him. So no love lost.

@@mountainair … But, to a Christian believer with ultimate respect, we don’t much care to frame anything in order to accommodate the wayward beliefs of others as this is a dereliction of our Lord - who is in fact your Lord. There ARE no other gods you see? There is only one God. There are no other… and we humans do not have to die - we are eternal … Our only way to proceed from this world to the eternal next - to be with the Father - the Creator of heaven and earth - is through the judgement of Jesus Christ… There are no exceptions to this regardless of whether you believe it or not. It doesn’t matter if you choose to listen or believe this God. You are not the chooser here. It matters only whether He will choose to believe in you. All men will kneel before Christ because He is the only way to the Father - and there is only one Father. For this reason, we may not be able to entertain other fantasies in others who wish for parity of belief, because there is only one Truth. There is no equality here in this respect. God is God. And Jesus Christ is the Truth. With undying respect and love for you as a fellow child of God I can only pray you see the Light of His Truth. All men will kneel before Christ in death… He is the very death of death. I pray you will be saved and blessed forever. And John Butler is a spiritual man who understands his way and his path. He is English - but very Russian too!!! To ask him to “loose the Christianity” so-to-speak is surely unfair. If you want a guru who is purely into TM - and thereby missing the far more miraculous and profound Truth of this incredible existence - and the resulting passage into heaven - perhaps you should find someone who pleases you in that way… I pray that at some point you knock - and that God comes to you, then you’ll understand the joy.

He seems to be making a point that is on a much bigger scale than individual animals. He's talking about existence itself.
