I inherited from my dad his Rolex oysterdate 6694 gold plated champagne dial with the green box he bought at the navy exchange in Yokohama Japan in 1965. The receipt is still in the box for $81.95. The watch still works great. I wind it up and wearing it right now. What an awesome vintage watch 57 years without being serviced.

Precision means they didn’t send the movement to COSC to certify. For example, a vintage Air King is marked Precision, but it’s an automatic. Great watch BTW.
@craftandtailored5 жыл бұрын
You are correct and also incorrect 😎 Yes its a non COSC rated movement you are correct here but the ref 6694 leverages the Rolex cal 1225 which is a manually wound movement :) www.craftandtailored.com/products/1969-rolex-oysterdate-precision-ref-6694-with-box-and-papers?_pos=2&_sid=4daee2557&_ss=r

precision means non-COSC rated but it depends on the model if the watch is automatic and or manual
@Agrippa31BC5 жыл бұрын
Craft & Tailored what defines if the watch is manual wind or automatic is the word perpetual. If it is an oyster perpetual, it’s automatic. If it’s just an Oyster, then it’s manual wind.

I think it says a lot about the simplicity of the design that Rolex (& Tudor) would make versions of this well into the 90s. It's simply gorgeous!

Not surprised about the military history. The 1969 6694 given to me by my father was inherited from my grandfather who received it from a his friend who was Korea/Vietnam War vet who according to the story "bought it at a PX in Germany." Mine has a very dark almost black dial with gold markers and hands. The bracelet date code indicates the 1970s so maybe it originally had a leather band. I'm also an Iraq War vet so it's nice that the watch stayed in the Army family.

Love these and air kings. Air kings seem to be ticking up in price a little recently, but i don't think they'll ever jump off drastically d/t the 34mm size. I love smaller watches, even with a 7.5 wrist but 34 is right on the cusp for me as far as being *almost* too small.

Thankyou so much for that very interesting film.. As a Horologist I enjoy working on Rolex. They are a watchmakers watch with a lot of thought going into the movement design. Yes you can feel winding train as you wind it and you can tell a lot from this regarding the running of the watch movement. Great video

Idk if i should spend the extra money on the DJ. My fav looking one is the OPD 1501 looks so clean and understated. Any opinion from you guys on which one should i get ?

@craftandtailored4 жыл бұрын
not sure if I have ever seen one.. it's also an entry-level Rolex as its a precision model so an actual tiffany co-branded precision level watch would be weird in my opinion as most watches retailed by tiffany were of higher pricepoint and complication :)
