What is paper sizing? .. And swatching YInTiCo Red PR298

What is sizing when we're talking about paper? Also... swatching is one of the most important steps in learning how your watercolors act on paper.
I'll show you how to do a quick and easy swatch to help you get started with getting to know your watercolors and pigments. Showing YInTiCo Red for this video.
This swatch template is perfect for everyone who works with watercolors. Wether you make them, or use them.
I use this swatch as showed;
There's room for the name of the paint and/or pigment number.
From the swatch, you can check the transparency as well as enough space to make a gradient swatch, you can see how the paint flows, for wet in wet technique and you can test the liftability of the pigment/paint used.

I have unsized rice paper for sumi painting, and the first time I used it I was like "what the actual f..." you really need to pay attention to how wet your brush is. If it's too wet, your brush literally sticks to the paper and you can't drag it. It's a learning curve. Hot pressed paper is great for ink and wash because it doesn't mess up the marker tips like cold press does.

Thank you Laurens, very informative. I have a couple of types of Hahnemuhle paper and their sizing makes the paint work differently to other paper I have. I like them. Interesting shade Yintico red.

Thanks for this detailed video. I don't know much about this pigment and it was interesting to see it react to the different papers. I am off to watch your first video in it, as I find the colour really interesting. Best of luck in your monetisation quest. I am watching playlists, so the videos come on automatically. Probably not 😅 .. printing paper (like ink jet) also has different sizing. Fine art paper for instance

@@dirtyblueshop oh well learning experience.. that didn't quite stick. i still do it at times. it was some cheap sketch paper. sold as paper for pencil drawings. it's actually a video on my channel even. it was a painting of one of my favorite thunderbolt fantasy characters.

This was interesting.. I agree with @tereyaglikedi that hot pressed is best for inks or any drawing media. I haven't yet tried the Hannemuele as its very expensive to get here but most who try it favour it.
