Hearing the airspeed change as you enter lift and wing crinkle in turns is magical.

Depending on the site, it’s kinda nerve wrecking at first. You always have to plan where you might land and if you have enough altitude to risk going for that next thermal. ;) Ridge soaring is a great way to start and at places like Point of the mountain.

I have watched many videos and I didn't see anybody flying my dream until I saw you today. Just turning loose of the handles sitting there being happy.... I bought an epsilon 9 and I'm going to classes to learn to fly it. It was the biggest size they had and I'm just at the maximum weight limit if I eat breakfast the day I fly. Your wing looks like it is a high aspect ratio wing and I thought they were supposed to be fussy and want to fall out of the sky with you all the time?

Ridge soaring and glass offs were my favorite when I was hang gliding. One arm on the bar, steering by looking. Look there, go there! Especially nice to see this one today since I am chilling with Covid. Yeah, it’s still out there, but the oral meds work pretty good. Thanks for posting, brought back memories.

I can't wait to learn to do some free flight! I'm getting ready to go on that paracamping thing with aviator this weekend, which is gonna be sick. But after that I'd like to try backpacking a wing up a mountain, camping, and then flying down the next morning. How was the Burn, btw? Are we getting content from that or was it just too crazy to film into a cohesive story?
@JudsonGraham2 жыл бұрын
Come double down and join me and 2 other instructors for an advanced xc/ para camping class with team fly halo in November😉 There won’t be a video from the burn. Maybe a highlights reel but no story. I realized, it’s for me. Check out for 10 Days. Don’t worry about a video. Be here, now. The whole experience was fantastic, life changing, magical and all the other words. I can’t wait for next year.

@@JudsonGraham my first burn was in 2008 and I was probably your age. Nothing's been the same ever since. Glad to hear the place still has some magic in it. If I can afford it (if my investments actually start going up again) I'll definitely look into the November class with you guys. I've actually been on the lookout for TFH to make a post on their next XC course. Can't wait for the next video. Stay safe, dude.

Hey Judson great to see you free fly ans really great location. I just came back from Meduno in Italia. You have similar conditions there. The valley wind is pushing against the alps and you can stay up in the evening for ever ….later land at the pool close to our camp ground….. thats live at its best moments ….not to forget the italien food after Love you videos keep it up and ….Have fun Rg Bernd from Germany 😎🪂

Glass off is something really special, I’m not sure you would get what we call a true glass off (restitution) at a site like POTM, I could be wrong cause I’ve never flown there. But at a place like Tollhouse the entire valley which is like a bowl is getting warmed all day, then when the sun dips behind the mountain and the valley starts to get shade the anabatic wind essentially scoops all the hot air off the valley floor so the entire valley starts to lift, I’ve flown a mile straight out away from the ridge slowly climbing the whole way, not anywhere where you would get ridge lift and no thermals, just smooth and slowly rising air spread over a vast area with absolutely no mechanical or dynamic lift. It doesn’t always happen but when it does and you are working to get down before the sun completely goes away it’s absolute magic.

I started my free-flight journey in 2009 on paragliders, your video brought it all back. I had some epic paraglider xc flights out in Spain. Are you planning on any paragliding xc flights or just ridge flying? Update- the grin you had at the end was epically big. I love the glass of conditions.

I believe I made a mistake early on in paramotoring trying to always go for bigger better higher faster accomplishments. Where I am in Freeflight now feels like that first 6 months of ppg all over again- i suck. It’s new, exciting and in some way unknown (except I have cheat codes because I already know how to handle the glider) but for right now my goal is to cherish the fact that I can go up and soar in some glass off and be completely content with that simple accomplishment for as long as possible.

Man.... you're gonna end up making me buy a paraglider wing next. Already have the oxygen harness for kiting. Looks like fun!
@Catpanl2 жыл бұрын
For ridge soaring you can easily do it with a PPG wing if you are in the right weight range. Ozone for example gives both the Pg and PPG weights. Honestly I think it’s a great way to start if wind isn’t super soft. Mild to moderate conditions and even strong if you are skilled, is better with a PPG glider with trims.
@JudsonGraham2 жыл бұрын
For sure. But that being said going to the explorer was that same feeling the first time you try a spyder after training
@Catpanl2 жыл бұрын
@@JudsonGraham what if you trained on a Spyder lol. But I agree that a PG wing will be needed eventually if one wants to proceed away from the ridge and not sink out. Or fly in softer conditions. Or thermal. My only point is that those who want to try pg shouldn’t be afraid to use their PPG wing if they aren’t flying something very small.
