I am 100% on the pet nat trend! They are fun to drink and remind me so much of sour beers. I worked on a pet nat disgorging & bottling on my friends family vineyard a few ago weeks in Napa, can’t wait for it to be released! Now that I know how labor intensive the process is I appreciate pet nats so much more. We were covered in lees head to toe. 😂

Cool new video bro :) and better lighting... all in with you on petnat, some good and some bad like in all wine categories... many of them tend to be great value for money... Make sure to chill them and don't shake them and you should be safe ☺

Haaawwwh haaaawwwh haaawwhhh. Thank you. I'm not a huge fan of the genre but there are always exceptions.

Love making Pet-Nat style wines! They don't have to be unclean, funky tasting or smelling, but by default have no added sulfites or filtration. Many natural wine makers started making Natural wine, which is why so many are not balanced(off) or good. A professionally trained winemaker or one that made wine using sanitation and understanding of the systems at play are the best natural wine makers. Pet-Nats are pain to sweet spot into bottling timing, but worth the hassle (like 3am bottling time). Pro Serving Tip: get the wine really cold (like 30-45min in the freezer) before opening, have one (or two) glasses ready, and pour ~1/3 of the volume out. Enjoy at leisure after that! Best after at least a few months in bottle, but always fun drinking a wine in the same vintage it was harvested. Cheers!

Just got back from Portugal where I had some really fantastic Pet Nat wines. The two producers that I enjoyed were Boho Do Luar (Lou's 38 white) and Joao Pato aka Duckman. Now I'm searching local bottle shops in Denver for some other great Pet Nats. Thanks for the info!

Disappointed that I didn’t see any explosions. I suggest that you keep making pet nat videos until one explodes. 😈

Seems like they didn’t do much math if their bottle half exploded after opening!! I mean I have to do some math to make sure I get enough fizz and if I don’t that’s when I have bombs! 💣

Ahhh you make Pet Nat?

@@drmatthewhorkey Wine Foley said I do but mine is fermented dry with no sulfates added to kill the yeast then a dextrose is added (20 grams per bottle) and aged 3 months for the fizz. I don’t disgorge them however.

Hi Dr. Matthew! Who comments on 3 year old videos? Me I guess. I'm planning on opening a Babić pet-nat today that I got from a small producer in the hills near Šibenik/Primošten. I came to your channel today to learn a little bit about pet-nat and you are obviously a Croatian wine expert so I thought of you. I love Babić but I really have no idea what to expect. Have you ever had a Babić pet-nat?
@drmatthewhorkey2 ай бұрын
Not a Babić pet nat!! Wow
@bwatts51522 ай бұрын
@@drmatthewhorkey Thanks for the reply! Reporting back. It was my first ever pet-nat so I feel like I need to try others to have a baseline to compare it too. I wish I could post pictures here, but oh well. The Babić pet-nat was light purple and cloudy in color. It had notes of candied raspberries and pie crust. Truly an interesting experience. I highly recommend visiting Matošin winery the next time you are in Croatia. Very small, family owned winery where Ivo (the winemaker) produces only about 3,000 bottles a year if memory servers.

I agree Pet Nats are hit or miss. Kobal winery knows what they are doing. Those are pretty good.
