What is phenomenology?
Phenomenology is a philosophical movement during the 20th century that studies reality as subjectively experienced.
Etymologically, it comes from the Greek word phainómenon, which means "that which appears", and lόgos, or "study".
Hence, phenomenology is generally defined as the science of phenomenon or that which appears.
More specifically, it seeks to investigate the universal features of consciousness while avoiding assumptions about the external world, aiming to describe phenomena as they appear to the subject, and to explore the meaning and significance of the lived experiences.
In this video, we will talk about what phenomenology is, its history, as well as some of its key concepts.

Great way in as I was struggling to read Husserl, Heidegger and Merleau-Ponty cold, without some basic background. This helped begin to unpack their philosophy a lot - thank you!

Wow, this video really helped me understand what phenomenology is all about! I've always been intrigued by the idea of studying reality subjectively, and this philosophical movement seems to dive deep into that. The way the video explained it in simple terms made it so much easier to grasp. Definitely going to watch more of these enlightening videos! Thank you!

From this short video,, I can see I would like Husserl's ideas,, As support for my studies in Plato and CG Jung.. CG Jung is really my main mentor,, although i take issues with some of his essay's/ideas.. ,,,,,I am one of CG's worlds biggest supporters but also the world's most outspoken critic of some of his statements/essays.. This includes his letters vol 1 and vol 2. = CG would not invite me to his lectures,,CG and I are likes and opposities, whereas CG did not like much critical assement of anything he said,, vs myself,, If all you do is agree with me,, I do not want you around me. So in this sense CG and I are contraries. However make damn sure your critiques hold water.

Interesting... Why wouldn't Jung invite you to his lectures?

@@languageandideas,,,well as we know from reading CG's bios, and seminar's, he could get annoyed if confronted w a Q or opinion which might challenge his ideas, ,,,he just might get a bit defensive. CG had a powerful and very developed intellect.. = That said, CG also most loved speakoing with friends who could rise to his level of insights,, CG once said , the only bk he would not edit is Answer to Job,,,, It is this bk I have most criticisms of,, ,,, I like to be challenged in all my ideas,, and alos give back criticisms where/when needed, In this sense I say CG might not like to see me at his seminars,, It was not so easy to get invited,,,,CG really liked only supporters, CG 's life is deep and complex,, He says some things in his letters that i will never geta answer ,,,,,CG was under some censures for many reasons.. = He had to keep soime sort ofa **reputation** His wife's family tree was of high society in Switzerland. CG knew his boundaries when criticizing christianity,, But he went too far,, He fliped floped. Its a long story,, answers we will never get unless we go to Zurich and find people who really knows the answers,, But CG's surviving family are not speaking much,,I would loved to ask Bair these Q's about CG's relation to christianity/protestantism. In one of his letters he say **WE protestants** Mind blowing,, and **I am not gnostic I am agnostic** , 2 untruths. ...CG was very complex and we will never get the answers to his opinions about christianity being a major part of antichrist.

If you like Plato and Jung….Husserl is on a whole different level. Not saying it’s better or worse , it’s just insanely hard to understand his actual writing. Honestly I would just put all of that effort into understanding Heidegger and studying Being and Time. He takes Husserl’s project and flips parts of it. It’s more comprehensible once you get the language down. Husserl will just make you want to pull you hair out. Also, how old are you ? You’re talking like you’re one of Jung’s contemporaries. He literally died in the 60’s.

@@Whocares1987 I am 68.months away from 69,, but decades behind in moral/intellectual developments,, as both my parents were sons of satan,, Heidegger is a no go for me, as ae most every of the so called philosophers,, DELEUZE and his co partner a very famous book discussed on YT,, I ordered and immediaetly threw in the trash can....I am extremely selective,, at my age, old and near blind,,vision severe stigmatism,, at birth,,, ,,I just order 3 books1 Hurssel as author, the 2nd commentary on Hurssel anda 3rd,, essays' on the topic of Intuition etc ,, its from the CAMBRIDGE Series, massive 800 pages,,another book in my Ebay basket dealing with Decision making in INTUITIONS,, Skimmed through it online,, Most of the material is not much of use NOW,, however it will help me in my bible studies and studies in CG Jung,,, You see what we read might not have immediate value,, but will break open the ground so the lava of new thoughts can break through into consciousness. YOu see I am gnostic,,I partake of all , Hurssel will be wonderful,,,as i am a phenomenologist, intuitive/forensic/emiricist/Platonic(]I avoid all things Aristotle/Realist/Universalist,,but am nota mystic,, I do not like mysticism,, I much perfer the language of The PARADOX....Yeshua was a Paradox,,,,,,, Jung would ALWAYS say **I am a empiricist*** But he was also much more and also had limitations due to maintaining a **reputation** CG was extremely complex phenomenon,,, Q 's that will never be fully answered as most of his closest family/friends are all gone . Hurssel will prove to be super enlightening. Nice Day Paul
