For so long I have been looking for someone to explain how a huge loss in market capitalization causes the collapse of a company. I mean in 2008 when Morgan Stanley was about to collapse as it was wiped out of it's market cap, UFJ bought the shares stabilized the company. But the part I'm not understanding is how the purchase of shares in the secondary market saved the company. As the the purchase of share in the market doesn't directly provide cash to the company that is collapsing.

Please answer this query of mine Hi If the promoter is pledging all his shares, and if those pledged shares are sold in open market by the pledgee and the price goes down drastically. Then, 1.Isn’t it benefiting for the shareholder (if the default is because of liquidity crunch) as he/she can purchase more value shares at less price. 2.Isn’t it unfair on risk reward ratio, that promoter is taking the complete risk of pledging, in case he defaults he losses all and on the other hand shareholder losses nothing (in terms of shares not monetary value). 3.can the promoter claim loss on pledged shares from the company?, if not then isn’t it unfair for the promoter? As he takes all the risk by himself and the rewards are for the company.

Hi Rachana ji, I have a question regarding pledged vs promoter shares. Let us think, if pledged shares are 100% that means, the promoters don't have any shares with them..? For example DHFL I see pledged shares are 100% and promoter share hold is 39.12%. Can you explain a bit more on this, to identify good companies to invest.
