Interesting! I have always put the responsibility for the ability to speak out on raising my own courage and bravery, not in waiting for an environment that caters to me. Fear is a healthy marker of appropriate vulnerability and growth, if the environment laid a red carpet for us would it not decrease the value of the communication since the cost of it would be lower? Where is the line from the environment being too excusive, and me needing more bravery?

Thank you for your comment and question. You may find Dr. Clark's recent Harvard Business Review Article on intellectual bravery quite helpful: hbr.org/2020/10/to-foster-innovation-cultivate-a-culture-of-intellectual-bravery

well the answer for me is clear, is the reason you are not contributing because you feel it is unsafe to do so? (fear of being judged, punished etc) or because you need more courage?

Keywords in this clip are emotionally expensive - it takes a lot of energy to cultivate courage every time. You would want to work in a place where you can spend your energy on creating solutions, be creative, and deal with the complexities of the operations, versus spending that precious energy walking on eggshells.
