Stopped in to see if things have changed much in 33 years. Never PT for us on weekends. Cousin flight? 🤣😂🤣😂🤣Belts, or ropes in PT? I will go back and listen later. That is different. I smoked PT, especially on a track. I was in track. My T.I.s sat in the bleachers. Sister flight ran with us. My pal, next tallest, we always hit the front in minutes. He was from Arizona. My T.Is would let me sit out because laps ahead. In 80 degrees. Yes, I was an Honor Graduate. My speed was one speed. Also a cross country runner. None of my flights could keep up. I did a mile and a quarter in about 9 minutes. Not even trying. Shooting? I only missed a few times. M-16 easy. Testing? 98%. Helping others pass? 100% helped everyone. We received 5 washbacks. Everyone passed in my extended flight. And we painted a mural as an honor flight. My T.I. and sister T.I. wanted me to apply to be a T.I. I almost did it. But I did more as a civil engineer. R&D that was implemented in the military, and works now, in the civilian world as well. Now I do International Logistics for a living. My EPA friendly deicing fluid program was fun. Had specially designed trucks built for that one. In my home state. 200000 dollars a piece. The fluid? 80.00 a gallon. I had to have it shipped in on rail cars in tanks. Now it is used on street intersections. Much cheaper. But I digress. I was 25 when I joined the USAF. I come from a military family. I was prepared before I joined up. Marines, USAF, Army, all that. My family since WW1 at least. PT changes over time. My uncle from Vietnam( drunk ass) was going to "man me up" at 13 in his garage. Unfortunately for him, I started in taekwondo at 10. He was 5 foot, 130#. I was 6 foot 185# farm boy. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 His drunk ass got impressed in seconds. He could have killed me!! He got two purple hearts as an Ontos commander. I made sure his head didn't hit the floor. Marine PT in the 70s was brutal. As my uncle described to me. He is alive and unwell in Florida. I am a Desert Storm disabled veteran. My check at least pays my car payment. 🤣😂🤣😂 I have at least 6 medicines in use. Only 3 the VA covers. The rest blood pressure, stomach, and breathing inhaler. My day job? I make over 6x my disability check. In a month. Think about that. What our worth is to join up.

Prep way before enlisting - its basic not advanced so working on push-ups and sit-ups is the hardest you'll do. Running is build up so don't sweat it. TI's have to get all of you people in gear - after week 3 it chills out. IF YOU VOLUNTEER THEN GET IT TOGETHER BEFORE YOU LEAVE. KZbin videos have it all so no excuses!

In the Army we PT'd every day except Sunday. Sunday was for church service, barracks maintenance and weapon cleaning. We had our weapons 90% of the time, I know the AF doesn't. Weather didn't matter much, if it was too bad outside we'd PT in the day room or in the PT bubbles, which we're like giant white tents. Sometimes we had PT twice a day. Before breakfast chow and after dinner chow. Along with getting smoked throughout the day. I'm thinking about going into the Air Force Security Forces and it looks pretty relaxed or at least not as intense as when I went through basic.
@DavidCapperino6 жыл бұрын
I remember being at an Army post and the Army and Marines would PT all the time. And the Air Force would go in if it rained or lightening lol. I cannot speak on security forces per se, but the videos they have look pretty intense/fun.

Can someone improve drastically in BMT for pt ?? My current runtime for a mile and a half is 18:45... i can jog for maybe 5 mins and my legs are tired and feel heavy.. I focus on my breathing.. breath in from my nose and out with my mouth and that has really helped with not losing my breath so fast... I can go half way down for push-ups and sit-ups I’m able to max out... so I’m totally fine with my sit-ups. I just need to focus on my run and obviously push-ups I need to work on... I leave in August... I’m also older at 36... I know I should focus on both the run and pushups but which one seems to be harder to improve on ?? Also would you recommend for me to run a track ? ( there is a community college track that I can go to ) Curious if I should practice running on that and get used to it, since I’ll be running on a track at bmt ? Do you also recommend jogging without listening to music ? I jogged without listening to music and I noticed it was harder to keep going lol..Any advice would be great ! :)
@DavidCapperino6 жыл бұрын
Hmm I want to say yes and I no. I feel like I drastically improved, because I held myself to a standard higher than I was used to. I went from a “red belt” to the “blue belt” category in the 6+ weeks of active PT, so I would say it’s definitely possible!

Hello again, I think you should definitely practice running more, that is one thing I should have practiced more. And as you go on in your Air Force career you will get better and better. I understand that the worry is trying to not get washed back, or fail, or look like a fool, but yes run most days without your tolerance of course. If you are not feeling good or are super sore from working out I don't recommend forcing yourself through pain. When you work out are you doing all of these one after another? Also get used to having someone else hold your feet while you do push ups so you get used to that when you are taking the actual test. I will say, the BEST advice I have heard as far as making time with running is to find 2-3 of your favorite songs and run your 1.5 mile to those songs. Make them the most motivational things you have ever heard in your life. I never knew you could listen to music on your PT test, NOT in basic training lol, but in the operational Air Force. This technique can still help obviously for training, but is good to know. You figure one song is anywhere from 2-6 minutes with the average being 3, so 3 songs times 3 minutes brings you around 9 minutes. Obviously that is very fast based on what you are used to, but this is a good technique. Simply tailor it to you and add maybe 5 songs and then after a week do 4 songs, etc. I am no super health or fitness professional so I just recommend taking my advice with a grain of salt! Hope this helps, let me know!

David Capperino I ran to military cadence tapes when I was in the USAF...1972-1996...I used the tapes later in my career...1985-1996.. I listened to USMC, USN SEAL's, US Army Airbone Rangers, USA Green Berets running tapes...you feel like you can run forever...sometimes you could. The USAF running tapes are OK...but the Pararescue and Combat Control cadences were good...the USAF marching tapes/CD's seemed a little better. The USMC, US Army, etc..also have marching tapes...now CDs for running/ marching. I usually couldn't wait until it was time to run. Music will do it as well...but the cassettes in the 80's and early 90's...the music quality wasn't very good...the tapes would drag...sounded warped. The Navy doesn't like to admit this...but the SEAL's running tapes are better than the regular Navy running tapes..Regular Navy is like Regular USAF ...at least to me...you might have to choose your words carefully around sailors...since the USAF is just 71 years old. Navy doesn't like to be compared to USAF...I do have a lot of respect for our sea faring brothers though. lol.

Did you all get "smoked"? like corrective exercise for disciplinary reasons?
@mb7z5 жыл бұрын
That Dude Nurse no the MTI’s are not permitted to do that. However, your MTI can make the flight do group exercises I can’t remember what they called it. You either do 20 push ups, sit ups, leg lifts, or mountain climbers and it has to be at least 20 minutes after a meal. We use 341’s now and it’s basically a write up and then you have to give a reason for why you did something wrong and you sign it off
@thatdudenurse40235 жыл бұрын
@@mb7z wow, thats actually nice to hear. At fort benning, they made us sprint right after a meal, we held the front leaning rest postion, did pushups and then 8 count pushups for like 4 hours. This will be a nice change
@DavidCapperino5 жыл бұрын
Yes Miranda, exactly this. You don’t get that “punishment” per sé, you can do group stuff though. There was one time I accidentally forgot my reporting statement and just talked casually to my MTI and we all had to do push ups and stuff. But yes, it was like a 3 minute circuit where every 30 seconds you did a different exercise because we messed up.
@DavidCapperino5 жыл бұрын
You can say we got “smoked” idk if I would say it was intense, but that’s also a double edge sword because you get real lax, and then you’ll end up forgetting something and then have to have “corrective actions” of that makes sense. Hope this helps!

Hey I just posted a video going over the scores for PT tests. Here's the URL: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJ61oayiebSnb5Y -- The short answer to your question is, yes if you max out the waist measurement as well.

So what happens if your not phyically fit and mostlikey not be able to run for 30 min straight
@DavidCapperino6 жыл бұрын
It’s no biggie, and it’s not a constant run per se, but mostly a jog. So long as they see you putting in effort that is all that matters. Also, they allow you to walk if necessary.
@kashawnyoung72416 жыл бұрын
So do you feel like the PT is something that most can do without struggling too bad? Running is definitely my weakest point. Also, so for running you guys would just run for 30 minutes & that’d be it for the day?
@DavidCapperino6 жыл бұрын
Most definitely, I still recommend that you push yourself throughout your time there. But! They’re not going to force you to run for 30 min. Straight but will expect you to show some sort of effort. Typically it’ll be a constant run/jog for 20-25 minutes and then a minute of walk and run alternating for the rest. Hope this helped!!!

I have a small rash on my arm under my wrist that’s not that big but it’s slightly noticeable. I’m going to MEPS soon should I be worried?
@DavidCapperino7 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't be worried at all, I noticed in the operational Air Force there are tons of people with skin conditions and are still in the military. If anything, they will want paperwork from you civilian doctor for further analysis. And, I am not 100% sure, but they may look into it while you are at MEPS. Definitely, write it into your paperwork at MEPS and see if the doctor says anything. But, I don't think you shouldn't get accepted for a small rash. Hope this helped, good luck! Let me know how it goes!

Yeah never bring anything up unless you're asked about it. Most things go unnoticed or aren't of concern. I was in the army and some people I was in with probably shouldn't have made it through MEPS but their conditions went unchecked and din't affect most of them at all but would have maybe kept them from joining if caught by MEPS staff.

How many push-ups did you do a day?
@DavidCapperino6 жыл бұрын
There was no set count, and I can’t recall how many reps we did because the exercises were varied and you did some things that effected the muscles you used to do push ups, so it felt like more than we really did. I would guesstimate about 30-50-ish depending on the MTI
