Literally, Literally... Seriously literally the most Scientific description of Resonance by a voice coach here on KZbin. Everyone speaks of Resonance but no one describes the physical phenomenon behind it. Thank you Freya so much for doing this for us. The concept of matching of Natural frequency of an object with the frequency of the incident wave is so important in understanding Resonance.

Sooah Park does. I was introduced to her after asking on Freya's Facebook page. You're right otherwise, proper explanations are hard to find.

Now that I've watched this video, Sooah went further into detail about how yo use the resonant spaces and using formants for greater resonance. I'd still suggest going to her channel to understand that.

This is the best explanation of vocal resonance on the planet

'chestiness' and 'headiness' are just terms to describe the amount we put in when we sing. the less air coming out from our lungs, the more it is called 'heady', while the more air we expel out while 'belting', the more it is called 'breathy'. but we should be aware that our vocal chords control that amount of air that comes out. tense and contract them, and it will result in a heady or high sound; relax them or make them loose, then it will result in a chesty or lower tone.. and lastly, we have our mouth, together with our tongue, which fully enunciates the words in a song. actually, only by pronouncing the words correctly, prolonging the vowel sounds, anyone can produce the right tone while singing.

I don't know if it's just because I've been studying voice for awhile now, but this is the first time an explanation on resonance has actually clicked for me. Thank you for your content, Freya. I'll be revisiting your other videos soon.

I can't feel vibrations in my head when I sing in my head. How strong are the vibrations supposed to be?
@maxkaddell
@maxkaddell 6 жыл бұрын
I never sing without some type of short term goal to work toward. Earlier I strengthen my pure tone and pitch accuracy..I use a fair amount of vocal fry and vibrato, so I chose 5 songs that are sung with alot of vibrato and made my goal to complete them on pitch, without changing the key, and to use no vocal fry and as little vibrato as possible. I figured that would make singing with vibrato sound better, did 1 grunge, 1 metal, 1 rap, 1 country and I'm telling you I'm not going. Whenever I research a subject on here, I scroll to see if you did a video before going to any others. Earlier I sang a couple songs with my mother on smule, and I noticed when I hold the mic close to my face and sing quietly, it is more clear and louder than when I sing loud parts. I do hold the mic farther away on loud parts, because I'm trying to avoid sounds of distortion, like catching a breath, or breathiness. It seems like I have good pitch, vibrato, resonance... etc, I think I am overall better at singing quietly, but I'd prefer to be well rounded, better for dynamic planning, so the next goal is to strengthen the resonance of my loud voice, which is why I am at this video. It might be a wall of text for some, meaningless for others, but I like to share stuff like that in case anyone is learning how to train themselves, until coaching can be afforded. An example for new singers: changing volume can drastically change the portrayed emotion. In the song "you raise me up" by josh groban, he does the first verse, first chorus, all a but one "when i am on your shoulders" in a quiet verse. During quiet voice, he starts out aubtle, increasing volume as he goes, ease people into the finale, and at this point he is displaying a gentle emotion of longing for something more. About 70% into the song, there is a loud chorus, then a louder chorus, the finale, at this point he expresses gratitude, contentness, excitement, then he switches back to the quiet voice and eases the listeners out of the song. Took me a long time to figure out emotions! :)

This is why singing and meditation are virtually the same thing. The vibrations go through your whole body and effect you at a cellular and brainwave level. Go for it and enjoy better mental and physical health. Play with your voice from deep gutral to high pitched sounds for added fun.

resonance is useful for when you want to sing to a song on the radio so you can be sure you're hitting the right note :D Anyway when soundwaves of same or very close frequencies meet, they add to eachother to create a sound with the same frequency but much more power. As kids, brother and I would yell - one starts and the other matches the pitch - for the sole purpose of driving parents crazy xD

When I sing I'm just naturally loud 😭 since i was little I've been told that i need to quiet down cuz ppl can even hear me through blasting headphones. at this point, when I'm really into the song I'm singing i get so loud you can hear me from outside the house 💀 but all this and i still can't tell if I'm resonating or if I'm just loud af 😭

This explains so much especially the part about the bone connected to the inner ear...once out of no where my voice was really good one day and I was able to sing crazy high in head voice it resonated so much I felt like the sound was flowing out of my ears instead of out of my mouth...in other words it felt like my ears were picking up the sound from inside my head instead of hearing it from the outside after the sound is released into the atmosphere if that makes sense..felt like I was gonna go deaf cause the sound was exploding from my ears😂😂😂😂😂 I hope that meant I was doing something right if not lemme know pls

I have something kind of embarrassing to admit here. I'm not completely sure about how to use breath support even though I use it all the time and I think I've mastered it but I'm not completely sure. I mean how often do you completely let your stomach back in when you're exhaling. Do you ever completely let it back in on the exhale things like that but I don't know I think of other questions later

I am not so knowledgeable about this.. But what i think is happening is that your sound or resonance is "stuck" on your face... Try to project your voice forward.. Like imagine that your throwing your voice as if your throwing a ball towards someone...
