Rosemary is it's own pesticide as bugs really don't mess with the plant. Rosemary extract is often used to deter pests in an all organic garden.

My niece has a rare, severe (Anaphylaxis) allergy to rosemary. It is a constant adventure. We had no idea how much this herb is used until this developed. It is often not marked. A recent attack involved a common canned soup that she had eaten for years but a recent formula change included rosemary with no notice.

The first list of ingredients that has Rosemary Extract on literally says 'Antioxidant (rosemary extract)' so it's obviously an antioxidant... It is also written on the thumbnail....

I would not consider anything expressed out of a solvent a natural or healthy product. My child and I are both allergic to rosemary and we depend on whole foods, like hamburger. So frustrating that that they have to mess up something as simple as beef.

I don't know, but I'd guess alcohol. It's a good solvent, and you can easily evaporate it off.

no because you aren't refining the rosemary for the extract but using rosemary would help the meat regardless :) so enjoy the lovely flavor!

No. They are not talking about biologic activity. Your meat will still spoil. They don't want the meat to change colour. Like apples do when they are cut.

They are using rosemary as a means of producing carnosic acid through chemical means of isolation. They are not using rosemary to preserve food they are using a chemical preservative. They just use rosemary extract because it makes people feel better.

Yes, in apple juice - rosemary extract! Wal-mart brand. Problem is, I have a son that is severely allergic to rosemary. Now I have to read EVERY label! In foods you would never expect to see it! Boggles the mind.

Not wild about knowing that they use (probably hydrocarbon) solvents to extract the rosemary oil out of the plant. The solvents can't be good for you, even in small amounts.

Well the method shown in the video is likely Methanol or Ethanol extraction, i wouldnt worry about any trace as both solvents easily evaporate and the final mixture seems to be pressed through a small grain size filter press, solvent traces would be minimal but even if they wernt as its a food application they're almost certainly using a food-safe solvent like the ones i mentioned, so its fine.

Solvent is just something that dissolves something else. For example they use liquid CO2 for decaffeinating coffee. Doesn't mean its bad for you. Chemicals are not all scary. BTW one of the best solvents in the world is water. If you brew tea or coffee you are using water as a solvent. -A Chemistry teacher.

I believe their using dihydrogen monoxide. Too much is fatal, it kills untold numbers of people every year. It's highly corrosive, and causes suffocation!
