It's so good to see you back. I'm going to have to watch this like 5 times to get all the info. Thank you so much for doing the deep dive for us. I think it might be time to dip my nose into cosmetics.

So glad to see this! I bought some a few years back because I saw someone use it but never got around to using it. Just reorganized and inventoried and thought, hmm, how am I going to figure this out? Great timing Mrs S&C!

I've been making a soap with sea moss for a couple of years now. I plan to make a sea moss emulsified bb sometime within the next month or so. I also take a sea moss and elderberry gummy 🙂

Also, there's two main distinctions between types of sea moss. Chondrus crispus only grows in cold waters, and this would be irish moss. Flatter leaf and this grows in ireland, greenland, maine. Gracilaria is the other type of seamoss and there are many species, and they grow in warm waters. You can farm gracilarlia, but you can't with the irish (Chondrus). Wild caught is the best, so often people will say irish is the best, because that species is only wild. Wild gracilaria is different, but sill has a lot of similar benefits overall. Gracilaria can be like 80 different species so that is also why there are different colors of this type. Easiest way to tell the difference is really that irish is flat leaf, like a red lettuce, and the stuff that looks like strings more is gracilaria.

For anyone that is going to make their own gels, be sure to not get ones that look like they've been tossed in salt and sand. They look like that because it's cheap stuff they literally tossed in salt and sand.

I was just thinking about soaping and thought of something, so of course I ran here. Have you ever put your clay in your lye water solution? Scientifically I would think that the clay would of course soak up the water so the lye would fight for it. But would the lye break down the clay?

your description of falling down the soap moss rabbit hole, is exactly how i fell down the soap making rabbit hole and pretty much every other crafting/cooking/diy project ive ever done. its no fun if you dont understand every little detail

Wait, what? Iris moss is a plant that grows on land. It was a thing I looked into back in the 1990's to plant in my front yard rather than grass. And it's not moss at all. What the heck. Anyways, it's called "sagina subulata"

This naming stuff has befuddled me in totality with this sea moss journey. 😂
@sandrastreifel64528 ай бұрын
That’s the flowering plant whose common name is Irish Moss. Mrs S&C was using the seaweed Chondrus crispus, which has the same common name!
