"God is goodness", that simple phrase, is what brought me back to the church after years of disbelieving. I visualize it more as a way, a path, or sometimes even a vector. Keep to that path and you have a good chance at happiness and fulfillment, stray from it, i.e. sin, and you suffer the consequences. While my faith has expanded and grown, I return to that one phrase when things get fuzzy, and clarity returns. Your videos are like that as well. They help clarify my faith. Thanks Father Mike.

@@AtamMardes Yeah, I used to think the same. It's a superficial understanding of what the Church is about. I know where my donations goes, and a small portion of it does end up in the hands of corrupt clergy at higher levels. However, my local parish does a lot of good with their piece of it. @@Natediggitydog2009 Per Catholic Scriptural Commentary on that verse (w/ Nihil Obstat): "Jesus uses hyperbole to post a warning that no one should pridefully desire honorific titles. His words are not meant literally. The NT writers elsewhere use 'father' for natural fathers (Heb 12:7 -- 11) and spiritual fathers in the Church (1 Cor 4:15; Philem 10)." ... Which is a much more reasonable, holistic interpretation of the passage, built upon traditional Church teachings, rather than a selective one that attempts to interpret a single line without any real interpretive authority. The whole passage from Matthew 23 illustrates the broader point Jesus was making: "and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues, and salutations in the market places, and being called rabbi by men. But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brethren. And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. Neither be called masters, for you have one master, the Christ." (Matthew 23:6 - 10)

If you know in your heart and mind that you really want to go back to God, when you go to confession and repent he gives you the grace to do it. At every confessional not only is God's mercy and forgiveness poured out for us but also the grace necessary to choose him and not repeat offending him by the things we have repented for. That doesn't always mean you'll never fall again it'll take some time but the more often you go to confession the stronger and more active the Holy Spirit is in our lives. When we sin, the Holy spirit becomes dormant in that particular area of our lives but when we go to confession and repent sincerely, the Holy spirit becomes active in our lives again and he helps us when we are being tempted and gives us enough grace to walk away for it. But this is always a choice, our free will. God never takes away our freewill so we can choose to sin or not. But God always gives us the grace. I know this from experience and I encourage everyone to not be afraid to go to the sacrament of Reconciliation.

@@annemburada6265 Hi There. Think about it this way: in the garden, man and woman were in a relationship with God at all times. They was trust in Gods will for them in the same way as a child to their parent. It was trusting and loving and part of that is trust in God to protect and take care. In by consuming the apple (apple literally translates to the word "fruit btw which is why there is ambiguity towards if it was a literal apple or not) they chose (I also say "they" because, in the bible, Adam was right next to Eve when she consumed the apple and said and did nothing to contribute to the situation so he failed horribly too. It's not just an "eve is bad" thing in case anyone thinks that) to do "life" without God. If you think about it, knowing what is good and evil is not inherently a bad thing. We tell our kids whats good and what is bad, eat this not that, don't talk to strangers, etc so that they can live life strongly on their own because we wont be able to do that for them forever. HOWEVER, God intended to love and take care of us forever, so we did not need the knowledge of good and evil because all that was good was going to take care of us FOREVER. In the act of taking on that knowledge, we told God, "I don't trust you. I will do this all myself". Its the same as your child running away from home. They Say" i don't trust you, and i want to go myself". That's why it hurts God so much for us to do that. We literally reject his love and trust. But in His love he lets us choose.

Why not keep it simple and use the word of God? 1st John 3:4 everyone who makes a practice of sinning commits lawlessness, sin is lawlessness. Very simple actually, break Gods law and you've committed sin. Now it's up to you to study the word of God to figure out his law. Starting with the 10 commandments is a start but that's not everything. Remember Jesus said if you love me keep my commandments. Wow that is so simple! Thanks be to my father in heaven for his word.

Uh…it’s not as simple as “breaking God’s law.” It’s breaking with what God wants. The law in scripture doesn’t list everything that’s in God’s will. *Anything* can be a sin if you’re doing something God explicitly told you not to do, and vice versa, not doing something God told you to do, or even if you’re simply putting the thing before him. God doesn’t like that.

This subject is very important to me because my mother was very thorough even before I was born about living a life without sin. This is not as clear as it seems because there are many evil things that keep going on when nobody believes they are sinful. Not only that, some people have an instinct to take their own lives when their emotional pain has gotten too far, but had they sinned? Not everything we imagine is a sin is a sin. Manipulation is used everyday to convince people of what is right, wrong, best and worst. Thus, we fall victims of not thinking we know what sin is, but we don't. We only know what some sins are and based on knowing those, then we imagine what are not sins to be sins! It's messy. I was asked once about who a man should marry, if his lover married then was unhappy in the marriage and then came to him, which of the two men was the one to have her without it being a sin. That's too cerebral! They both had sex with her. One had sex with her before the other one. That's one of the reasons people change demoninations and religions. They look for easier understandings and reasoning

Hey Fr. I've been reading through Genesis again and I've been thinking a lot about how Adam and Eve hid after the fall. We know that they hid out of shame. How would you characterize the relationship between sin and shame?
@mjanczakowski7 жыл бұрын
Shame is the devil's harness to keep us in sin. When we sin, we are instilled with a sense of guilt. This in itself is good - it is a weight from our conscience that tells us to seek God's mercy and to reconcile with anyone we may have hurt. However, as Fr. Mike notes in his video, sin distorts that which is good, and in this case, the devil distorts your guilt into shame. Now, instead of seeking reconciliation, we hide like Adam and Eve. It gives us a sense of hopelessness, like we are some piece of trash that needs to be thrown away. This leads us to sin even more because, as a self-pronounced piece of trash, we feel unworthy of God's mercy. Shame essentially causes us become morally and emotionally numb. Nevertheless, Jesus continuously calls upon us to see through this lie. As beings made in the image of God, we are far greater than a piece of trash, even in our low points. The fact of the matter is that we are fully and eternally loved by the Father, and no matter how unworthy we might be or feel we might be, by the grace of God the warm embrace of Christ is always just a step away. The key is admitting our fault, overcoming our shame, and turning our guilt into positive action.

'Good' is considered the 'positive pole' within the electromagnetic spectrum and 'bad' the negative one, as our brains function through electric current, wiring happens to interpretation of the temporary preset grouped linguistic definition of what the brain currently defines as the 'self' in relation to what the brain currently defines as 'a concept'. And then, through linguistic and mathematical reinforcement, it creates a temporary relative 'definition' of what mental process it projects in relation to both definitions, defined as 'feelings' - the alignment of neurons and the diminished transfer of electric current through internal conflict within the brain stem and central nervous system then has the person define it as 'good', and conflict in that alignment (worrying), has the subject define it as 'bad'... that is what 'sin' is, in a nutshell.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SIN (A CHOICE) AND A MISTAKE The term “MISTAKES” implies something done UNINTENTIONALLY. For example, a legitimate mistake might be: - Turning onto a one-way street, going the wrong way. - Pouring Salt into your coffee, thinking it was sugar. - Mis-typing a web address and ending up on a porn site. These could all be legitimate mistakes. They happen because we get distracted or careless. But a sin (choice) is more than a mistake. It’s a DELIBERATE Choice to do something you KNOW i s wrong. Unlike a mistake, we CHOOSE to sin or make a bad choice. Therefore, we must accept responsibility for it - - and the consequences that follow. Don’t minimize your sin (choice) by calling it a mistake. Take responsibility for your behavior. If you have sinned (made a bad choice deliberately), own it. Even if you’ve made a mistake - - own that too. Take the Hit. Even if someone provoked you, own your response. If they were 90% responsible, accept 100% responsibility for your 10%. Deliberately hurting others there is no legitimate excuse. NONE!!! It is normal to feel guilt when you make bad choices. Guilt is God’s GIFT, designed to motivate us to initiate reconciliation. The sooner you acknowledge your responsibility, the sooner you can resolve the problem. And NEVER follow your confession with the word “BUT”...This is the same as an excuse. It negates everything you have said before. Next you have to change your behavior. Words are CHEAP. So many people say they are sorry - - but….NOTHING CHANGES. Unless you change your behavior, you’re not really sorry or repented, no matter how many tears you cry. Lastly, - - ask for FORGIVENESS. You can’t demand it. You are not entitled to it either. You can only ask and hope the person you’ve hurt or done wrong to will extend mercy and forgiveness. Some, however, which is a good thing, they may choose to wait until you have SHOWN you have repented. Matthew 3:8 states “Change your hearts and SHOW by the way you live that you have CHANGED. Luke 17:3 says, that if a person repent and CHANGE their way, then you should forgive them. - - Also, Acts 3:19 - - - If you would like to discuss further my e-mail address is SheilaTruelove@yahoo.com or my contact number is (518) 250-8829.

Father then what does john mean when he said sin is transgression of the law, James and Paul say the same thing, I can quote the verses if you want, the apostles specifically say "sin is transgression of the law" why are you trying to define it different, the bible says what it is, what do you have to say about that?
@KnowledgeLearned7773 жыл бұрын
People always have sometype of form of giving out truth, but at the same time they are not speaking the PURE truth. He gave a good breakdown in a way but never mensioned the law. People always try to avoid the word "Law" for some reason. I got so much proof about Sin being against the Law it aint even funny.
@margokupelian3443 жыл бұрын
@@KnowledgeLearned777 I don’t think there’s much difference in the way he put it and the way St. Paul put it. He was trying to avoid presenting God as a tyrant who made laws and wants people to obey His laws. He was just trying to appeal to people, specially non-believers who have a problem with the word sin and law. I was just talking to a friend of mine who is a Buddhist and she told me that she doesn’t like the word “sin”, it sounds too harsh, she said. Like St Paul said, I speak to pagans according to their understanding and to the Jews according to their understanding. So he was trying to be tactful without deviating from the truth. I think we should be more understanding of the priests and pray for them a LOT. There’s a prayer of St. Faustina for priests in a Divine Mercy prayer book (which I pray every day) where she says” give power to the words of priests so that hardened hearts might be brought to repentance. Lord give us holy priests” and so it goes on.

Doesn't the Law express God's will? Therefore to transgress the Law is, more deeply, to reject His will for our own. I don't think Fr Mike is contradicting the scriptures, I think he's actually given some insight. God bless

Exactly. He has been saying "will" or "will of God" and he does not even know the will of God. Is he really reading his bible. Psalms 40:8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.

Why not just read the Bible? I JN 3:4 If one Transgresses (Breaks) the Law (Torah) that is sin. Repentance in the Bible is Teshuva in Hebrew means turn back to the will of YHWH / God, to turn back to living in Torah. NOt Oral law, but the written in the Bible.

Stacey Calder you sound like the rich ruler that said he keeps the law since his youth an don't sin. In Martthew. That is why the bible said is harder for a rich man to enter heaven then for an camel to enter the eye of a needle. If you think you have it all down an not a sinner, that means your rich in the mind an guess what if you don't sin you don't need God because your perfect already that a scary place to be. No straight answer from someone avoiding the truth and who does not want the truth. The word of God itself define what sin is. No need to formulate with your own mind what sin is because by doing so, you are sinning. You are adding to the word of God.

From this video, I noticed that if we knew it against God, it is sin. But I heard someone said this: "Don't dig Catholic deeper. The more we know, the more we sin." I also heard something like we are sinned if we don't want to know. A bit confused here actually...
@thomasbryant24863 жыл бұрын
Ok. I know this is old but I just want to put this out there. Weather you know it is a sin or not it is still a sin but there is a difference. Theres Venial Sin and Mortal Sin. Mortal sin seperates us from God. Sin never seperates us through his grace though. So what defines a mortal sin 1) It was committed under truly free will 2)It is a grave matter 3)The sin was committed in full knowledge At the end of the day its sin either way but mortal sin is a more serious matter because it is a purposeful turning away from God's will for us

Idk i see how contentious and and afraid all the Christian community is and i think somethings fishy, i mean you dont need anything to know a tree didnt make itself, i appreciate whoever made all this. but if you're asking me to construct my whole life around an idea that will take this whole life, when i could've just wholly beheld the sunsets and my loved ones faces a little longer. We could all be the pawn of something but i should not watch for anything? Trying to know whats really going on so that people dont live and die a lie, when you could just be having natural decent dominion on the earth than idk whats actually happening. i agree im not the creator and am open to life but it just seems like fear based, when we havnt been given the spirit of fear as its said. Never take advice from an unhappy person, so when it starts as "you should be afraid of this", "look how much better im doing now that im constantly needed reinforcment" as apposed to just being here. then that doesnt seem like a good spirit. Its like worshipping the devil by thinking that youre mostly him. Youd have to be retarded to think that you made all this or never have made anything from this..so praising the lord is natural...Idk all those moments people got spoken to by God can for sure be summed up as a dopamine rush and a thought that has been thought so much it becomes a belief, you can convince yourself of anyhting, how much easier is it when everyone's doing it. Based on sigils thought itd be an alright path because then a majority of life is there.. and you can see this in all religions the only difference is that this one kills you twice and is more specific. all the gods if thats even a thing could follow a principal defined as God so the one, ill respect that. but from when i was young i rember thinking thats a bit extra just being in these peoples energy.. doesnt seem necessary before all the fear ridden adults went after works. That consumes so much of your focus that instead of being in full fellowship its always jittering back like junky but God but God im not giving you my full attention because im afraid that God doesnt want me to be alive essentially lol..In comparison to how its described in the bible our communication with God is non existent and ill respect that too. Clearly hes removed himself from here, if that is a thing.. so ill regard that and try to figure out whats going on.. because we really just pawns of death no escaping that. been going on forever and that doesnt look to good.. but just throwing all my concerns out the window based on a book written 2000 years ago is a little cheap for me. Show me the devil, talk to me face to face if im of any value. Otherwise i just see needy people that wernt honest enough with themselves to just be sad about life sometimes because it is sad.. how many people needed comfort but were left alone because someone just said well God lalala and never were able to access depth because of this thought barrier..

Some important insights about sin. Don't know how we can be sure Judas did not regret and repent? Committing suicide may not mean you have stopped being in a relationship with the spirit-of-god-in-you. It might mean you want to begin a new one and are smart enough to know god's steadfast unconditional love means god is up for that too.
