A kitten took up at our house a couple of months ago. She was under nourished and very fearful. We finally caught her and took her to the vet. She is healthy now. My older cats didn’t have much to do with her. My husband was in PetSmart one day and saw some kittens. He brought home a cute little tuxedo cat. After a few days the kittens were great friends. They have a great time together! Sometimes they are double trouble!😂😹. So glad we brought in another kitten. He is so lovable and hopefully will help her to become more relaxed with us.

Yeah, my multicat household had been a collection of senior cats, and then I rescued a Scamp called Little Siamese Tommy. Well Tommy would try to play with the older cats, but to them it probably seemed like torment. But there had been this parking lot kitten, I called her Pretty Girl, a Calico with a Zero Mask. I would have taken her in earlier but other tenants were feeding her, but they moved, and so I brought her in and she was just older than Little Siamese Tommy. She never LIKED Little Siamese Tommy, but she didn't mind getting the better of him in rough and tumble play. Then a year later I got another Kitten and he kept Little Siamese Tommy busy with play.

So nice to hear your story. I love Tuxedo cats. We had one in our family from kitten through to 21 years of age, when she passed away. She was healthy up to 18 years old (with normal blood tests). She was gorgeous, started out so timid but went on to display so many wonderful, endearing personality features. It was a privilege to spend those 21 years together with her and I still miss her very much.

Yeah, Ma'am, I can guess exactly what was running through your husband's mind when he was at the PetSmart and decided to just GET that Little Tuxedo without calling you first. I had always wanted a Tux, but, then again, I'd always wanted a Blue, like a Russian Blue, a Korat or a French Chartreuse, or an English Short Hair Blue. Then one day, cutting through a swanky parking lot, a great place to drop off kittens to be picked up by the Well To Do, well, there was what looked like a French Chartreuse Blue Tux. Love at first sight. No other consideration but to take him home. It is very sweet of you to understand your Husband on this similar occasion. And, yeah, my Franky Blue is now my house's most friendly cat, and he helps all the other cats get along better too... he's the Peace Keeper.

Yeah, that is something, a factor, that they Video doesn't mention, that with a Single Cat, the cat is likely to be best friends with their humans, but if you get another cat, well, they could become best friends with each other. Sometime rescuing Siblings is like having two cats in a World of their own. But, yeah, in any multicat household, I suppose, there will be one or two cats that will form special bonds with the humans, or humans.

Wow, Jane Chambers made a comment above about [her] too. and what she had to say reminded of myself when I was growing up, when I formed a special bond with the Family's pet cat, Kitcat, a smallish Orange Tabby. I grew up with that cat. She was an indoor outdoor cat. When I was little she would always be nearby in the fields and woods where I played, and then as I got older, she would come along on long walks with me, always within 20 feet away whenever I would look for her. I was also the one who would let her in at night. So as to not wake up the neighbors, I would shine a flashlight up in the leaves of a tree and shake the beam around, figuring that the motion would catch her attention anywhere she happened to be, and soon she would be walking in from the field. But, yeah, she went from the 3rd Grade to College with me. So it isn't any wonder that as an adult I became a cat person.

I certainly agree with all that was said about senior cat syndrome. My single senior cat recently passed. My son adopted her when she was a kitten. She had a brother that was adopted by someone else. I tried several times throughout her life to bring her a friend to play with but it never worked out well. A strange thing happened after she passed. I dreamed about her and in my dream, she was standing outside my door with 2 other cats that were brother and sister. In my dream I fully believe that she was telling me that she was going to send me these 2 cats that were siblings because the whole time I had her, she missed her brother. Only one week after that dream, a man was asking for someone to take his 2 cats, a brother and a sister because he was moving and couldn't bring them with him. I knew that these sibling cats were the ones in my dream that my much loved but recently passed senior cat was sending to me to love and take care of. I just never realized how much she missed her brother. I now have these two precious little sibling cats. They are only 2yrs old and they love each other and play all the time. Never a dull moment! 😸😺💕❤️❤️❤️❤️

My cat Sparky is a four year old male that I rescued and brought in from the wild. He has lived as a singleton from the moment I brought him in. Last year(when Sparky was 3) a local feral mama gave birth to four kittens on my property. While in the process of finding homes for them I caught and kept them in the house in a very large cat cage for three to four days. I thought about keeping one so that Sparky would have a companion for the long days I spend away at work. He has always been a well adjusted cat. ALways happy and content. Never any problems but I thought a companion would make things even better for him. Well, having those other Kittens in the house even though in a cage for those four days was such a disruption to Sparkys routine that it caused a lot of stress and anxiety on him. So much so that he developed a urethral blockage in his urinary tract and could not urinate. I took him to the vet emergency room when I saw how much he struggled in his litter box. It all came on so fast and was very worrisome. They kept him for three days and two nights for a total cost of $4000. Luckily I got him there in time and they were able to clear the blockage. The vet said that stress and anxiety can affect cats in strange ways even physiologically with urinary blockages(especially in male cats) being one such problem. By the time I got Sparky back home from the hospital the kittens were gone. It took him a couple of weeks to fully recover but once he did he was back to normal. He hasnt had any problems with his urinary tract since then either and he is just as content and happy as he was before his hospital and recovery ordeal.. I know this is my projecting human feelings and emotions onto a cat but I remember the look and stare Sparky gave me when I was attending to the needs of those kittens while they were in the house. It was the look and stare of "Why are you doing this to us. We had such a good thing going until you brought them in". Clearly Sparky prefers to be a singleton lol

Oh no, how scary! I know urinary trouble for male cats can get bad fast, so I’m glad he’s okay. I think some cats just have the right personality for the singleton life lol. My friend is fostering one right now that she’s decided would probably do best as the only animal in a house. She doesn’t really get along with my friend’s cats and gets annoyed when she doesn’t get all the attention lol.

Of course he got stressed out, not only were there too many kittens at once but also that is not the proper way to introduce a newcomer... you're not supposed to allow the resident cat and newcomer see each other for a while, you're supposed to keep them in separate spaces and allow the resident cat guide the process... once the resident has gotten used to the smell and sound of another cat in the house, then you can move on to allowing them to see each other but from a distance until the resident starts feeling more comfortable with the idea of sharing the space with the newcomer and then... only then you can start bringing them slowly together with distractions (treats, toys, games). Now, of course in the beginning the resident cat will fight the idea of a newcomer, it is their survival instinct, you're bringing a stranger into their safe space and they don't know if this stranger is out to hurt them or take from them... but once they get to know each other, through the proper process, then it's smooth sailing! It is a lengthy (sometimes moooonths!) difficult process but it does work, I've done it a few times now and I've only ever had positive experiences, however... I once did what you did... I brought in a new cat and just sprung it on my resident cat (didn't know any better at the time!) and it ended in disaster... had to rehome the newcomer after only a week because like your cat, my resident cat also got scary sick with stress... but again, only because I didn't know there was a whole proper introduction process!

My cat is 15. I think he has the opposite of single cat syndrome. We had another gorgeous cat coming to our life when he was 3 years old. He absolutely hated having another cat around. He was aggressive and mean and often unhappy. The other cat was very docile and accepting. We adopted her at 17 years old and she died at 21. When the cat passed away, we basically got our cat back as in he went back to the sweetie that he was at 3 years old. No more anxiety no more aggression and he's a generally happy spoiled 15-year-old mush. I say this because sometimes getting another animal or even having a playdate is actually not what the cat wants. I have been raising cats all my life and the majority of cats I know prefer to be alone. Perhaps the cat needs more stimulation but that doesn't necessarily mean another animal
@myconfusedmerriment
@myconfusedmerriment Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I’ve heard of single kitten syndrome before so think it happens a lot, but I also think it really depends on the cat’s personality-some of them really prefer being the only cat. Getting another animal is an easy way to provide daily stimulation for both of them, but I also think you have to do it when they’re quite young so they will adapt easier (probably why so many rescues recommend getting 2 kittens to start out).

The best cat I ever had we had since birth. We knew him before his eyes had even opened and took him home when he was ready to go. He was a single cat, a huge black silky long-hair mixed breed with the absolute best personality. He was an absolute gentle giant, would greet everyone at the door, hardly ever meowed (though did definitely purr and sounded like a stampede with his midnight zoomies). My point is, I feel as long as someone is actually there for the single cat, spends time with them, socializes them, and builds a genuine relationship of understanding and trust, that aggression, fear and other behavioral problems can easily be avoided and one can have a bond that will last a lifetime easily without issues. The problem is that most people, even most cat owners, won’t or “don’t have time” to do all of this or think cats aren’t social animals, when in fact, they are.

We adopted our now ten year old, Allison, at 7 weeks of age. We introduced her to our Joseph, who was then 16. He passed later that year and Allison was beside herself with grief. They were such friends. She became aggressive when we tried to interact with her and increasingly distant. I missed having a cat I could play with. As a family, we made the decision to look for another cat at our nearby no-kill shelter. Alina, who was then 18 months old, loved my son and followed him around the barn, where the cats lived. We brought her home, worried that Allison would reject her. They aren’t like sisters, but they are okay together. They are both ten years old. Allison has taken a page out of Alina’s book and has become loving and sociable. She is finally purring this year! I don’t want just one cat again. I have enjoyed having pairs.

Such a complex question. On the one hand, some cats don't mind being the only one in the family and have a wonderful relationship with everyone, are well adjusted and lead a happy, fulfilled life. Some cats will enjoy the presence of others, sibling or unrelated, some won't. Some will benefit from an addition, some won't. It seems such a complex question and of course depends on so many variables and most of all, your cat's personality. Certainly a case by case matter. But I must relate a story many will be familiar with. Some years back a relative 'dumped' 2 cats on us, a brother and sister and we gladly accepted them into our family and though they didn't get along as well as we wished, they tolerated each other but each had very good relationships with us humans. But sadly, as nature requires of us all, the sister died aged 16 and 4 months later her brother succumbed - both from kidney failure, but you could see he was certainly affected by the loss of his not so close companion and most likely hastened his death. Something to consider, not only with close companions.

I've had my rescued calico for about a year now. She's 3 years old and obsessed with food. She's so chubby. I have to hide food from her. I think she has emotional problems from being a stray for a while and being abandoned. I adopted a 5 month old kitten the same month that I got her. But they are completely different cats. All he wants to do is play and she's not interested. He is affectionate to her at times, but he definitely wants to be the alpha. I don't know how to get her to stop being obsessed with food. She begs constantly. Vet said some cats are just like that.

Years ago when I got my first kitty, she was horribly depressed as I was gone many hours a day at work. She was lonely. :-( I came home one day and she was in the middle of the room's floor...nose down on the carpeting. It broke my heart. I thought about adopting another cat (and should have taken her brother when I adopted her a year before) but hesitated as I lived in a SMALL studio apartment. But...fate brought us a stray kitten soon after. I was driving along a very busy road in Sherman Oaks when I saw this small animal fling out from underneath the car ahead of me. I slammed on my brakes to not hit it too. I thought it was a rat or something, but it was a very young kitten. After MUCH effort (many people helped me) I caught the feisty little guy. Miraculously, he was not severely injured. The change in Karma's mood when I brought Bodhi home was miraculous. I don't think I'd ever have just one cat again, unless I was retired or something where I could be home more. I have two now, Chakra and Bleu. I am considering getting one more as Chakra is 15 now. I’ve introduced her to 8 “siblings” throughout her 7&1/2 years of life and there has only been 2 that she even tolerated, I’ve tried everything. At one point we were almost on “My Cat from Hell” as my other cats were trying to kill her we had to keep them separated at all times. I’ve learned that she is just happier with me alone and no other cats around so I’m her play buddy for life.

Yeah, multicat household can be a challenge. I once had 7 cats that all got along with each other and I thought that was normal, but it was actually very very lucky. I've had problems with cats who are driven to lose any sense that they have their own territory leans in the house, making them anxious, and they won't come out to feed. Without territory, they begin to find 'caves', defensible corners under furniture or whatever. You fix that by giving them their own room, becoming two houses, BUT! it is far easier to say "that cat just is not working out". Really, when we take in Cats, well, the Cat has to hold up his or her end, don't they? The On Line Cat People Community doesn't like to here about owners abandoning their cats back to the streets or the kennel or whatever (where I live, abandoning cats to the street may be safer for them, because the kennel euthanizes their 'overflow'), but at a certain level, the Cats have to earn their stay by just at a minimum finding a way to fit in.

@@cyncty666 Wow! Damn! ...otherwise Good Morning Cynthia... What wrong with your Male Tabby? Are those two Spayed and Neutered? Maybe he was Sex Crazed. But that seems weird to me. Usually neutered Male Cats are easy going... But, oh, wait... Yeah, there were a few times when my Calico Peggy, a half Socialized Stray I brought in from the parking lot as a One Year Old, and then I had her spayed, but a few times she was freaking out like a Siren and I'd run into the room, and my Big 7 Year Old Light Red Stripped Tabby, Roary, would be standing there with a "I don't know why she's freaking out either" look on his face, and there was no fur flying. But most of the time they were okay. Maybe if her nose got stopped up and she could smell "Roary" then she wouldn't know who he was, and that first year growing up in the Parking Lot may have given her a nervous disposition. But, yeah, good luck with you and yours. Yeah, it is a blessing that my 4 get along. 3 Boys and a Girl the youngest (they all love her).

@@leovolont crazy, right? I had video of the tabby trying to attack her. We tried everything. Both neutered. We raised a momma (feral) and her two babies and he was a little over a year when I brought her home. Introduced them slowly kept them separate. Let them smell items and rubbed the smell back and forth. Would feed them where they could see each other but the new kitten would scream. The tabby would go nuts. One time he ran into the room past me and she almost lost an eye. I sent In footage to My cat from Hell but JG wasn’t filming in Hawaii at that time. Later the producers were but I was already moving away and taking her out of that environment. I’ve tried to introduce her to other kitties who love her and want to groom her but she’s so scared. @@cyncty666 Good Morning Cynthia, Yeah, I think I had the same problem when I tried bring Angie, daughter of Calico Peggy in from the parking lot. Angie was Human Friendly, to get food, and a few of the Senior Citizens that sit on chairs outside to sun themselves like Snakes on a Hot Rock would reach down and pet her. But she was having kittens all the time, and I figured that would eventually create an Anti-Cat Hysteria, so I wanted to take her in. But she was so paranoid and defensive, never going on the attack unless approached but she made my other 5, 6 or 7 cats Nervous as hell (this was at a time that my Older Generation of Cats was gradually dying off, sad, but inevitable). They all saw her as the Enemy, because she thought THEY were the enemy. So I kicked Angie out, but I'd have morning and evening outdoor feeding sessions with her, and I really enjoyed her company. Just a Grey Striped Tabby with some wild tawny coloring in the face, but she had beautiful Green Eyes. Then some of the apartment dwellers started putting out food to attract some Killer Boonie Dogs, as they call them here, with this pack deriving pleasure from treating cats like Chew Toys, and Angie departed territory, or was eventually killed. But as they say, "Character is Destiny" and any cat in a Multicat Household, as a baseline, has to be able to coexist with other cats. But your Male Tabby's overpowering aggression is certainly an aggravating factor, like you got the Perfect Storm. yeah, Jackson Galaxy would have been great for THIS Cats from Hell situation.

It still hurts! I think being an only Cat might have had a part in that illness. Just knowing that now helps a little😢! After a couple of months of loneliness, I had to get another kitten. So I adopted a male kitten, who by coincidence looks exactly like my departed BFF💝. But after a week of him being here I was watching a video of two Cats having a lengthy conversation and my little guy was right up there talking with them! I knew right then and there WE had to get another kitty! So we adopted a little female! And I am so glad we did! So is the male kitty!🙄 I have posted about my two guys before about how they have bonded and do everything together and several other Cat related issues. I hope you don't mind so many post .. I love talking about my Cats! 😻 Having two Cats has made alot of difference, for them, which I have come to find out makes alot of difference for me! Yeap! You did exactly right. You got a New Cat to fill the void left from your Dearly Departed Cat (but you tortured yourself with a broken heart for "a couple of month". When I used to just keep one cat at a time, I'd always swear to not let the sun set on the day I lose a Cat before I already have a new kitten. You're too busy with the New Cat to always be plunged into grief because of the Old one. Getting a Male cat is great because the Guys can be really nice and easy going and make great companions. But then getting a Little Girl, well, if you already have an Easy Going Guy, then it's great that a Female can bring in Cuteness with a little bit of Attitude. Yeah, I once noticed that when I brought in a Socialized Stray from my Feral Cat Feeding Station, that the new cat claimed me and my bed as Territory and put an end to the other cats cuddling quality time. She unexpectedly just dropped over dead one day, and it all went back to normal. Well, I had MY quality time from the new cat, but once she was gone, I was kind of sorry that the others had been deprived for a few years. I tell that story pretty well in my channel's video "I'm Sorry Foxxy" but "Betty", the New Girl Stray from the feeding station, was a central character of the story, like a mystery story because of the mystery of her death. A lot of sad stuff in that video, but it ends happy as the New Generation of cats came into the house. I got 4 now and they all get along, thank God.

@@lpkm01357 maybe you can try what I did. When introducing new cats, I keep the new cat in one of the bedrooms and I put up a screen door on the other side of the wooden door. You can leave the wooden door open and the screen door shut until they get used to each other and this way they can't have a bad confrontation. It's best to only leave the wooden door open while you are supervising in the beginning. I usually do this for a week or two then it's easier to put them together. Some cats get along with each other right away and others need to be introduced to each other slowly.

i found my feral stray at 4 weeks old in Sept of 2019- at first i thought he was a dirty sock laying in the gutter- when i got closer, i saw it was a starved-to-death kitten--having just lost and buried my previous cat Ron [kidney failure] a month prior, i decided to carry it home and bury it in the garden with Ron--imagine my surprise when I'd walked 3/4 of the way back to my house and the kitten stirred, tried to meow and raise its head, but it was too weak he'd contracted a respiratory virus that had clogged his nose and eyes with mucus so completely that he finally couldn't nurse or see- and so he starved-- he was beyond skeletal, fur patchy, brittle, and falling out, muscles wasted down to strings, anemic from fleas, his growth was stunted, he had fluid in both lungs, weighed just 11.5 oz, and 2 oz of that was probably worms. Yes, I got him to the vet. After 2 weeks of almost never putting him down [including sleeping in my comfy chair with that tiny bony kitten curled up in my beard] and antibiotics and ointments and feeding him with an eyedropper every 3 hours. day and night, and carefully loosening the mucus in his lungs with steam [just like with my own croupy kids 25 years before] he'd stopped wheezing and coughing, and he was up to 16 oz. I switched him to kitten-milk soaked kibbles and fed him every 4 hours. 2 weeks after that he weighed 24 oz and i switched feedings to every 6 hours- 2 weeks after that he weighed 32 oz and got 3 meals a day- a month after that he was eating like a teenager and growing like a weed- a year later he had topped out at a long and lean 11 lbs- and there he's stayed. He's still feral- my rural farm vet understands that he's from an underground feral cat colony that's existed for well over 40 years- he handles him with welding gloves for his own safety- this cat can turn around in his skin and stick a tooth and 3 claws into you no matter how you're holding him- expert or no- unless he likes you- then he's a purring love-puddle last year he learned to ''play bite" and "play scratch" and hasn't drawn serious blood in over 10 months. it helps that i've got numerous tattered oven mitts, and bowls of loose change, bottle caps, hair ties, and crinkled paper balls stashed around my house near our favorite play spots-- he'll chase after anything i throw and he'll keep it up for 30-50 tosses- thus the bowls of tossable things- and i almost always let him have a taste of what i eat- he'll eat pretty much everything- loves peanut butter, cooked carrots, cooked bell peppers, pie crust, all types of beans [he only gets 1 or 2 beans]- loves spicy food (!?!) I knew it wasn't good for him to be raised alone, but i couldn't catch another feral kitten, and our local humane society says I don't earn enough to adopt from them- our local rescue doesn't adopt pets to renters in my town because there are a lot of college students- so- unless i happen to stumble over another dirty sock, it looks like we're going to stay a tiny feral colony of 2 rambunctious bachelors.

I always adopt senior cats - 10 years old or so. My current cat, Leo, is extremely friendly and affectionate. Because he is so outgoing, I thought he should have a friend - so I tried another male cat, who was about five years old. We had the new cat in the crate for two weeks, and they were interacting nicely; Leo was hanging around the crate much of the time. When the new cat was let out, after a while, he jumped up on the bed with Leo and I, and Leo smacked him. After he got off the bed, Leo followed him and chased him into the other room. Long story short - every time a new cat came through the bedroom, Leo would jump him. The new cat was spending his days behind the bookcase in the living room. I returned him as I didn't want to see him suffer. I have given up on finding a friend for Leo. He spends most of his time when I'm home, sitting on my lap or near me. Tonight we watched cat videos on youtube...

We rescued a senior feral off the streets after her buddy was picked up (he was much more trusting and friendly). They would often share space and he was the food wrangler. She wasn’t doing well until she bonded with us and then we were able to capture her. We have a senior dog who wasn’t doing so well after our other senior passed. They each check on each other and tolerate each other but would rather have us. I’m home most of the time and each seems content to know there is another body present that they don’t have to engage with.😁 Golden oldies I guess.

When I adopted my cat she was 2 and a half, partly feral and they told me at the shelter that she should never be around other animals, that was 10 yrs ago and now I think she's lonely and I just don't cut it for her anymore. But I am hesitant to get another cat because she can be brutal! I wish I could rent a pet!

Funnily enough I am getting a kitten at the end of the month to hopefully be a playmate to my 15 month old kitty cat. I don't feel it's right for her to be on her own. However I am well aware the introduction period may be stressful to begin with. I will put the kitten in a playpen in the lounge and after maybe a week open it so they can be together outside of the playpen but under my supervision. I'll put the kitten back in her playpen at night.

I have almost always had 2 or more cats. But once I had a female and a male. He accidentally got out and was hit by a car. She had by then outlived two males and was for the first time by herself. She had never seemed to fond of the boys. The way my life was going at the time I couldn't manage getting a new cat. Funny thing she was never happier. She became much more friendly to me and was totally relaxed. I used to let her out when is outside also. Besides she was deathly afraid of the traffic and never went toward the road. I was working in the garden one day and saw this gray and black 16 year old streak fly past me. It was my cat chasing another cat out of her yard. It was at that time I realized she absolutely hated other cats and why she was so much happier by herself with just me.

Thankfully my kitty is super happy but sometimes wants to connect with the neighborhood cats.. recently took him on a couple play dates and it was my friends kitties that were the ones being mean & aggressive 😿

I usually have a few pets at the same time but all have passed from old age leaving my now 5 year old cat the only pet in the house for a couple years. She tolerates my sister's senior poodle and I've taken her to my mom's house with me a few times since she started being naughty about me leaving her alone a few days per week.

When my tuxedo girl Polovinka died just over a year ago, I immediately noticed my nine year old ginger boy Vasili was acting stressed and unhappy. He didn't even get along with her very well, but it was obvious he missed her. I knew I wanted to get another cat or cats, so I visited our local animal shelter. After watching the various adult cats and kittens available for about an hour, I spotted two three month old siblings who were playing very actively together. I got them individually out of the cage to see how they interacted with humans, and both were very friendly right from the start. So instead of one more cat, I decided to adopt two kittens and immediately began the adoption process, which mostly involved them getting their vaccinations after I "fostered" them for a month, and both would need to be spayed or neutered before I could formally adopt them. I was concerned how Vasili would deal with these two bundles of energy, but within a couple of days he was bathing them and they were all sleeping together. Because our shelter was short veterinarians to fix cats for free, I opted to pay for the surgeries out of pocket rather than wait several months. Now Tsar and Tsarina live very happily with me and their "big brother." Both are extremely affectionate. Getting both was the best decision I could have made.

I've been called it singleton kitten syndrome. I denied a large king snake his lunch a little over a year ago, and picked up a kitten that was part of a feral litter. The momma had been staging the kittens in the flowerbed while she was moving them. They were about 3 weeks old. Definitely too soon to separate from momma, but that snake looked mighty hungry and that kitten wouldn't have even made a noticeable bump in his belly. I put the kitten in a box, and kept moving the box into the shade (heat index was in the 110°F range), but momma cat didn't come back by the time there was no more shade. So... I ended up with a singleton, 3 week old kitten. My old cat wasn't impressed with this intruder, had nothing to do with him. Now I was a farm girl. I had cats with kittens. I raised orphan kitten litters. Never a singleton kitten younger than 6 weeks old. (Come to think of it, Houligan did earn her name... so yeah... ok... I've had 2 singletons, since I was the third person to take Houligan in, and she was only 6 weeks old. Never wean kittens until their eyes start to change color!) I just figured nobody can teach cat manners like momma cat and/or littermates. Because, really, in cat terms he, current singleton, is extremely rude.

I have a single cat now. Our other cat--who adopted us when we moved. She recently disappeared after two years 😪 I have a neighbor that leaves her kitten alone for days and it breaks my heart. I would love to get another cat, but afraid of how my furbaby will react--he is two years old now. I have a dog that grew up with cats, so that isn't an issue. Thank you for this video! 🐾🐾🐾🐾

Most cats will adjust fine to another - and a kitten is usually given some slack because it is smaller. But your cat might be fine with the dog to hang with.

My senior kitty was bullied for years by my younger cat in his prime. He caught cancer and I had to have him put down a few days ago. If my senior cat could turn cartwheels she would and she seems to know he is gone and is purring. But I am watching her for signs I need to bring in someone else in. She doesn't let me sleep in any more, wants to be out first thing in the morning.

My cat was a single kitten in his litter. He never had anything to play with and the mother cat basically ignored him. It took a lot of years for us to get him through his crippling anxiety but now he's a cuddly, funny and beautiful boy. Not too bright tho, but a dumb cat ain't the worst thing. Keeps him from getting into too much trouble.

My current cat definitely has “single cat syndrome” Sometimes I think she gets a bit bored with hanging out with us oldsters because she’ll pester us for more treats or play time. She does however seems to enjoy whenever we have female company over.

I have a single 6 year old cat Marble (pictured). She showed up one day in the back yard and stayed. She was very friendly toward me from the beginning. After about a month we adopted her and made her an indoor cat. She likes humans, but she doesn't seem to like other cats at all. I think she is terrified of other cats and reacts by attacking them. We already had 2 senior cats, who have since passed away. When the older cats were still here, she would attack them. I looked online for ways to break this habit and I found out you could use a whistle - like a referee's whistle. When she attacked the old cats, I would blow the whistle and after a while she stopped attacking them. Sometimes she seems lonesome and bored and she loves it when I play with her. I would love to get another cat or kitten, but I'm afraid she just wouldn't tolerate it. 😮‍💨

I have one kitty and I’m retired. If I want to go somewhere it is HARDER to deal with more than 1. Besides he is better without a sibling to distract him from harness walking, and separating when eating. I may get another cat if he gets along with another. But I do not have family anymore and would not allow any neighbors in my house to check on them.

My cat, kömür is9 years old right now. She was a single cat for almost 7 years. She was a normal kitten and I had her neutered around 10 months old. After that, she became more and more aggressive with no reason. She came to me for pets and than suddenly attacking me for no obvious reason. I got another cat for appr. 20 months now, she isn't neutered yet. she is a very nice distraction for kömür but nothing more. They don't even touch each other. Kömür and I just sharing a home and the new cat is my real cat right now. I tried so many mood regulators in years but nothing really worked on my senior cat. Also my vet told me, she is a little crazy and needs antidepressants. But I'm living in Turkey and they are not available nor affordable here. So this is my story.

This is so depressing. I moved into my place 10 years ago with a cat that was already getting on in years. After awhile, I decided to get a kitten to keep my 22 lb. elderly cat active and less emotionally dependent on me. I did not realize at that time that 2 pets were not allowed in these duplexes. How could I know? The owner and her daughter both had two pets and a little later, a woman moved in with a dog and two cats. It was, apparently, a new rule. I was happy to pay another pet deposit, but that wasn't the issue. So, in June of 2019, my beautiful teddy bear of a cat passed away and the kitten, who had grown into a fluffy rambunctious creature, was left without his best friend. I've spoiled my second kitty, building him a huge fully enclosed catio that could house a full-grown lynx with room to spare, climbing structures lined with lights built inside my place and in the catio, a large basket full of toys, catnip, a special vacuum grooming kit and numerous carriers, harnesses, and a basket especially mounted on my bicycle for him. But he is lonely for another feline playmate. He is particularly lonely when I go to work and it breaks my heart. When he was being naughty and I would tell him, "No, no, no!" He would run to his older friend who would lick his head to soothe him. He is very affectionate with me, but I know he was better off with a pal. It's obvious when I return home and in my garage, I can hear his mournful cries through the door. When I open it, he is rolling on the floor crying as if to say, "Where have you been?! How could you leave me all alone like that?!" I know cats are manipulators at times, but he only gets belly rubs, and that's what he wants ... reassurance. I love where I live. If I didn't, I wouldn't have stayed for so long. But I really wish I had known before that they had a one-pet policy. Some people have this idiotic idea that cats prefer to be alone, or that they're like furniture. Nothing could be further from the truth. I've never raised a cat that didn't thrive on companionship.

My calico kitty is a rescue and she was very stressed out sharing space with another cat. She is a singleton now in my home and much prefers it this way, she is very happy now. Same is true for my previous cat, a female tortoise shell calico. When she was a year old, I got a second cat as a kitten to keep her company. It was okay while the second cat was a kitten (kitten thought of first cat as mom-cat), but once grown, first cat merely tolerated the second cat who constantly challenged first cat for dominance in the house - quarrels were picked. After the first passed away, second cat's personality blossomed as she was now the dominant (only) cat in the house. Sorry, in my experience with female cats (calicos in particular - quirky per my vet), they are territorial and prefer to be only-cats. Maybe the syndrome only applies to kittens - I can certainly see the value in getting at least two kittens as buddies, especially siblings, when adopting.

My cat was from a litter of feral cats. He was more interested in becoming part of the people family than the others, and they were taken to a friend's to be barn cats, along with his mother once I caught her. She was a mess. She is now herding mice in a barn. Well, she was a good mouser. But my kitty has been at loose ends since all his siblings left. He lives outside at night but likes to come in where I feed him and play with him. His world seems to revolve around his toy bird.
