Just to clarify: TCP does not really guarantee that the email is delivered to the receiver, it isn't aware of emails. It doesn't even guarantee that the destination endpoint (e.g. mail-server) receives the actual segments (data units / chunks). The only thing it guarantees (in this sense) is that the sender is informed about whether a connection could be established successfully and if each segment was received. And to some extend, whether the received segments were intact. If a segment gets lost or corrupted, it will try to retransmit that packet two more times, but thats it.
