Gotta get the mouth of the Cottonwoods by 6:45 am on a POW day. Then have a nice drive up and relax in lodge at the base. At about 8:15 am head out and stand in line for Gadzoom. Skip the tram. Gad Valley usually opens earlier. Nice plan NY SkiBoy... skip lunch so you can get more vert

Nice video and thanks. I am utterly perplexed at your ski choice though. What are you doing on those little slalom skis at Snowbird???

what microphone are you using? Audio quality sounds great
@SkiBoyNY.
@SkiBoyNY. 2 жыл бұрын
I'm using the Sarmonic Blink 500. The receiver plugs into anything with a USB C port to record the audio (I used my smartphone), and you can clip the mic to anything. I placed it on my neck warmer.

When you go to snowbird do you have a rental car company you prefer or know which one is cheapest? We’ve got our whole trip booked other than transportation
@SkiBoyNY.
@SkiBoyNY. 2 жыл бұрын
I usually go with the cheapest of the reputable rental car companies at the time. This time it was Budget Utah, which apparently is a franchise, and not Budget itself. There were a few issues, but I'd use them again if they were the cheapest option.

@@SkiBoyNY. thanks! I’ve been checking and was curious! Trying to get cheapest but still with 4WD😬
@anatolyex
@anatolyex 11 ай бұрын
@@BoardsBikesAndHikes Check TURO. It is like Airbnb for cars . You can save some green for 4WD or AWD vehicle , which is a must for Cottonwood Canyons . On snowfall day and regular vehicle , cops will turn you back , unless you have chains on. Another option is a bus...or hitchhike if you lucky .

Heading out to the bird from canada in late December 2022… what are typical Christmas/New Years conditions?
@SkiBoyNY.
@SkiBoyNY. 2 жыл бұрын
During the past 3 years: by the last week of December 2019, they had good snow and were fully open; end of 2020, they had a good amount of snow and the majority of the mountain was open by NYE; end of 2021, they didn't have much open until the last week of December (which was unusual according to a ski patrol I rode the lift with), when they received a storm enabled to open everything. Utah and Washington typically get the most snow the earliest in the U.S., so you should be in good shape. Just hope that one of the early snow storms is a big one. Then you'll be golden!

Great video ! Traditionally do you know when snowbird becomes 100% I know it always varies but is early feb to early ?
@SkiBoyNY.
@SkiBoyNY. 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! My sense is that most years, early Feb should be fine. During the first week of January 2022, there was plenty of snow, though a week before, much of the mountain was closed. There was also plenty of snow in early January 2020. So assuming it's a normal snow year, I'd be confident about early Feb!

Free parking?! When does that happen? Place looks incredible my man. We just got back from Killington and are headed to Breck this week! Yewww 🥶
@SkiBoyNY.
@SkiBoyNY. 2 жыл бұрын
That's awesome! Haven't been to Killington in forever but it's the best on the east coast (aside from the smaller Mont Tremblant in Quebec, which I just love for reasons beyond me). How was it? I went to Breck/A Basin/Keystone in Jan! Going to do a comparison video. So behind in the videos. Breck was great. Didn't get to explore the whole mountain. I'm at Zermatt in Switzerland right now experimenting with working remotely while skiing without using actual vacation time based on the way the time zones work out!

Never been to utah and im planning to go there to do snowboarding, is it good to go there in December??
@SkiBoyNY.
@SkiBoyNY. 2 жыл бұрын
Nice! Utah and Washington receive the most snow annually on average, so definitely a great bet for December. In 2019, Snowbird had tons of snow by the end of December. In 2020, not as much, but most of the mountain was open. This video is from the last week of December 2021, when they received a major storm of 18 inches.

Don’t forget the 4hr traffic jams going up and going down the canyon on pow days.. Also parking is no longer free. Bus service has been cut in half. Powder days are more rare these days. Crowds and more crowds thanks to many more on the Ikon pass. And ticket prices have gone up. …You’re better off going to Park City or check out BC in Canada.

I haven't been to Snowbird this year, but their website still says there is some free parking. Has it not been updated. I've found the traffic up to Solitude and Brighton to be even worse than Snowbird - you?

Ski mid week non holiday. Start at Entry 1 and start at Creekside. Ride the Gad lifts to mid mountain then ski to Little Cloud lift which gives you access to the runs at and off the summit. The Tram and Snowbird center can be crowded in the morning. From the top of Little Cloud you can access Little Cloud Bowl, Mineral Basin, The Cirque traverse or The Road to Provo. Be aware there are no easy runs off the top of Snowbird. Visibility can be challenging like flat light or white out conditions depending on wind and weather. It’s the real deal for terrain and snow if you know where to go and how to navigate from lift to lift. Ski with other people if you’re going through the Avalanche gates because there are over 2,500 acres of terrain.

There are a couple EZ runs off the tram. Granted they are CAT TRACKS Down to the top of Peruvian or over into Mineral. Regulator can be a good Blue if groomed into Gad Valley. KEEP IN MIND EASY at the 'Bird is harder than EASY anyplace else. GIT GUD!!

Ski bus up to SB from in any of several in town pickup spots is the way to go. Also, if it has snowed within the last 48 hours, there will be freshies to be found...very large skiable area at SB....so don't panic if in traffic up the road that you'll miss all the pow...it just looks so desperate to have a panic attack over missing totally untouched freshies
