Carrera T is like The GTS for the base Carrera ;) , by the way the T can have the Rear wheel steering as an option which you can not have in a base Carrera.
Great video Nick! The T is definitely one of my favourite 911. Thanks for the video.

Is it possible to spec a T model without a sunroof? I think the sunroof alone would save more than 11LBS.
@JMartinni6 жыл бұрын
Interestingly, I'd actually love to see higher up models offered with the option to only have the "911 Carrera" badge. To me "Carrera" has more symbolic weight than any number or model nomenclature after that, it looks less cluttered and classier. And base model or not, it's still a 911 and a very capable car.
@CW-oh2lp6 жыл бұрын
J. Martinni I think you can delete the model badging if you want on most models.

J. Martinni I get you, I find this issue more irritating in the turbo as "Turbo" has always been the top of the line for Porsche and looks cleaner than "Turbo S"... But the Turbo S is the one you'd buy.

6:15 - I don’t believe the PDK has lower ratio gears. PDK T is just a base Carrera with light weight glass, nylon door pulls and the option to get buckets. Dealerships ruined what was around 1k total units being built between 2018-2019 in the US by building over half of them with PDK.

Have to agree on the base 3.0t engine with a manual. My wife just bought one in guards red with a sensible spec is easily the best value in the range. In reality it has all the performance you could ever need on public roads. Rides really well on the standard 19s and pasm. We stuck the sport-tex interior with full leather which brings deviated stitching to make the interior feel more special and is far nicer to sit on in hot or cold weather. Manual is a peach.

Nick, I guess I am the oddity you describe; I bought a base Carrera, and left all the logo’s on the rear. I actually really enjoy having a heated rear window, and I enjoy the aluminum door handles. I would feel really short changed to spend similar money and have awful fabric door handles. I use my 911 as a daily driver, and regularly cover 1000miles in a day. So the option of PDK & adaptive cruise control along with the sports plus seats make this an impressive GT car. As a lot of my miles are at altitude, I LOVE the forced induction engine. A NA car loses close to 20% power at the 2000m altitude that I spend half my time. I do feel, as Porsche have a knack of doing that the T is a marketing gimmick. As you point out; the weight saving is negligible, but I suppose it is one way of moving more “base” model engines. Because of the target market, I also feel that the only people that opt for a T would otherwise go for a GTS... OK, I don’t have rear wheel steering, but I have never thought that my car was in any way lacking agility. I also feel the sports exhaust is also another marketing gimmick; why spend money on something that does not improve the power, or handling?
@NickMurray6 жыл бұрын

Rear wheel steering, PDCC, dynamic vectoring and all that smart computer stuff really help with agility around a race track, if you never track your car, then you'd never notice of course.
@TheChannel19786 жыл бұрын
How does the T compare to Base regards weight? For example I imagine rear wheel steering adds not a small amount of weight, so it could be a bonus for the T to not have it. Or maybe it was removed by Porsche to save cost

Power and the glory of the flat 6 NA 3.4l engine. Hair-trigger throttle response and a great engine note... couldn't be happier on every drive.

Nice review Nick! I would definitely have the full bucket seats - I sat in one with them and they are great seats. Other points to note on the T: shorter gearstick than normal with the manual, less sound deadening in the rear, the rear spoiler actually goes up to a higher angle than normal Carreras, and the rear seats are a no cost option. Also if you select privacy rear glass you don't get the rear lightweight RS glass. I think the standard Porsche colours do work well, as the mirrors and side stickers are painted in Agate Grey on all the Carrera T with all wheels in Titanium Grey, which offset the bright colours. A great car!
@NickMurray6 жыл бұрын
Yes if you fit well in them that are super supportive just a little hard to get in and out of
@andrewhurstcars6 жыл бұрын
Nick Murray I think the compromise of ease of use is worth putting up with as the full buckets are so good. I think the best spec for the T is: no rear seats, lightweight rear glass, rear wheel steer, manual gearbox, carbon ceramic brakes, no sunroof, full buckets, standard black dials. Fire extinguisher is also a nice touch to the cabin on the T.
@alexs83376 жыл бұрын
Of course, why not take the bucket seats when you're getting the light-weight model? No doubt. Only drawback of this car is, it should have an NA engine, even just one with small amount of hp.

e99783 and 20mm lowered sport suspension. Also I think the lower gear ratios applies to the manual only, which also is a short shifter with 20% less travel than the manual in the base Carrera. Oh and less sound deadening and the sound channel going from the engine bay to the coupe. I just adore my Carrera T and it’s in Miami Blue. There are also Carrera T only exterior cues such as the slate gray grille (as opposed to black), the mirrors and that extra deep front splitter. Just awesome!

chrsweden and not picking the sport bucket seats. Besides not having torque vectoring and the 10mm drop in suspension. Would it not have been cheaper to spec out a base carrera instead?
@BertoniBertone6 жыл бұрын
Precisely. The only 'Colin Chapman-esque' component (....ahem..."just add lightness"....) is junked by most parties because they want the heated screen and/or tints. Then they add the PDK. And a sun-roof ? And the PCM back in for their 'tunes'. Then they drive around on 'parts-bin' cast-flow 20" OEM wheels & tyres. It makes the whole 'puristic/light-weight' schtick an utter nonsense. A Carrera manual with 19" OEM wheels is actually lighter. So, get the Carrera and a set of 19" forged wheels with the spare cash, avoid the 'S' final drive & improve your emissions by 13+ % (and lose 0.1 sec on 0-60 time...).... Then you'll wind up with a simple, purer, less complicated 911. Just not the version of 'puristic' Zuffenhausen's marketing department wants you to have. An historic opportunity missed. Roll on the heavier and bigger 992. Anyone for a Tea then ?
@alexs83376 жыл бұрын
Plus, I think the stitching thing is really not appropriate for this pure and sporty 911, maybe they better suit the touring-car-like turbo models, but anyone interested in a fancy interior with all that stitching should be going for a GT car, something like a Aston DB11 or Bentley Continental GT.

The shorter ratio is only in the MT and you're driving a PDK. That car should be spec'd with MT...and no sunroof or colored leather air vents. Zero mention of rear steering or sport PASM, which are options not available on the base. Good point about Porsche attempting to remove the "it's just the base model." The T is great for people who want the base, but don't want people to think less of them for it. It is more expensive though at nearly 120k with some reasonable options, also considering you get no discount. Same person could buy a discounted S or CPO for less, so you really gotta want a T to buy one. Also there are no allocations so you pay over MSRP. I think you started this perception thing about the base engine being more responsive. I don't agree owning an S and driven the base plenty, but many people do because you keep saying so. The additional power from the S or GTS is preferred by most and they drive pretty much the same. I bet many won't know the difference when normal driving in a blind test. Once you start revving them out, the S is clearly more powerful.
