Yep learn life skills by doing manual labour in a confined space where you pick up dogshit then place it on a moving belt for 8 hours a day. We can obviously agree to disagree but can you not use that tiny brain of yours to realise that Road life is being on the frontline, making face to face transactions with clients and having to strategise to improve your (illegal) business, whereas legally you would perform simple mandatory tasks with limited say so because your boss doesn't give a fuck about your suggestions. Wake up man, you have grandad mentality

Success is progress or the perceived end of it. If there can be a goal, there can be progress and there can be success. It is also having children, hence the reference of the deceased being succeeded by their kids. Everyone is successful in various avenues of life and not content with others, so I think a lot of people are predisposed to feel as successful as what they've made least progress in, compared to how far they feel they could have gone with it. Interesting chat though 👍🏾

I see success now living happy life I see my my dad he’s successful his family living happy yes there struggle but he’s happy and I see myself happy with the way I been raised and where am going in life. And the way I seen success 5 years ago was very different I used to see the hood niggas was successful the jewels and the girls and the cars and the parties that was success to me I wanted to be that I wanted to be on the road but I am glad how my life turned out to be Alhamdulilah

Success is having more than what you had before, it's different for everyone. You might see someone with a big yard and cars as success, but to the individual it may not be.. They may of inherated it. Success for that individual would be gaining more than what they started with.

In addition to that there is also multiple types of success, people like to focus on financial success. But there is also success amongst relationships, independence (being able to cook is a good one), etc. However, a person can have all this and still be an asshole... So keep in mind success regarding your personality and traits.

Success in a capitalist society is gaining as much wealth/assets as possible. We don't have to over complicate it, it's simple. In the western world if someone has more wealth or assets then someone else then they are more successful. It gets interesting once we bring capital into it. E.g. someone could have a lot of financial capital but be socially inept. They could probably be deemed to be less successful than someone who only has a reasonable amount of money in comparison but has high social capital.

Poet is completely missing that even if you have a "plan" the plan can fail. And when you fail on road, your life can be/is on the line i.e jail or death. And if you go to jail, when you come out, the rest of your life you are living with consequences i.e no money, a criminal record meaning no jobs on good money, limited opportunities, harder to provide for children. Theres so many detrimental consequences. Saying have a plan is an awful message for a 30+ yr old to give to young black youth when they could stay legal and make a lot more money than road could ever get them.

This Poet guy doesn’t understand he smokes way too much. The weed is getting to him and slowly making his head not function completely right. People that smoke a lot never can see what the weed is actually doing to them only the people around them can see it. Even chuckie is laughing at him at certain things he says. *At* him not with him 21:20, 21:49 & 22:24. U can even see it in dans face when poet talks he’s thinking to himself “this guy has lost it”. Someone needs to have a proper conversation with him and tell him to lay off the stardog.

A smart person learns from his mistakes, but a truly wise person learns from the mistakes of others. What poet is arguing not only is it danger to some of the young people but it can be fatal to many. You don't need to make mistakes or continue to make one to realise your full potential. I work with young people and what he is saying is what many think and its the responsibility of adults to show otherwise. You have a platform man. Don't be irresponsible with it. There has never been a successful drug dealer. Prison or death is the ultimate destiny. Stay away from it.

@solshields
@solshields 4 жыл бұрын
Kind of true though, there are a lot of successful criminals but not many if any long term successful TOP drug dealers. To be a successful drug dealer I think you would have to launder your money pretty early on and completely avoid detection or association with the lifestyle. There are many successful former drug dealers and dealers who run a much smaller operation to avoid detection but to be a successful, long term drug dealer the amount of invasion and evasion there would be involved in your personal life seems unbearable. Like Dan said "All it would take is one snitch to bring down the whole operation" as has been seen in the mafia so often

what a great fucking convo ! i am a 20yr old female studying law at uni & that goes to show how everyone has it mixed up success v desire. Obviously for one reason or the other they are interrelated but quite different. the end goal seems to be satisfaction needed both material and non ways- found in a job, your family, your social environment and the human need to provide to the whole. it seems that individuality and distancing from the community gets you to success but that might instead explain the void that successful figures feel. It is less a full on career focus but a most all-including process of growth (overcoming trauma, developing identity etc.

Viewers, followers, likes, clicks etc. Materialistic success never went away because we have social media like insta BUT it’s a lot easier to prefabricate to give people an idea of success. Yeah, I don't agree with what Poet was saying about illegal activities. Very poor advice. But He did make a very good point towards the end @25:00 about everything we thought was a success was built by the media & what they say is a success. This is so true!! That's why young black people must have exposure to more successful black individuals in the media. We need to see more faces like us working in different industries. I believe this will influence a lot of people in the right direction. I always give the example of Jamal Edwards (SBTV) that Google advert he did in 2011 and the short series on CH4 (From Bedroom to Boardroom) inspired a lot of young people. How many people after seeing his story are now running their own youtube channel music shooting vids or take an interest in creativity and have built a successful business from it? I'm one of them. This is just one example but I believe that the more people like us we see in the media like Jamal, Stormzy, Femi Oguns MBE etc will certainly be one strong factor in influencing the young people to consider different routes other than illegal activities.
