I have recently moved to Winchester and it's so good to finally be able to showcase the country roads.
This session was far from perfect and got tough, but I am so glad I filmed it, because that's running for you.
It's a beast of a workout loop, having climbed 143 meters in 12kms
Hilly undulating tempo is what I need. It's what we all need.

I have nothing else to say to you mate other than I absolutely love your content. I’ve improved my 5k from 23 mins to 19 mins in the last year. And I did Leeds 10k this morning in 39 mins which I honestly couldn’t be more happy with. And your advice helped massively!

Out of curiosity, what was your weekly training volume over that time period? I'm shooting for a similar goal and I feel like I'm not improving as quickly as I'd like.

@@mykevelli it increased over time. I never really do more than 25-30k per week. I do 1 long, slow run (around 10k) per week. A 5k Parkrun, and two other interval or hill sessions. I found that the longer, easier runs were most beneficial

For me tempo is more or less threshold as well, but I do threshold as intervals (5x8 minutes or 3x15 minutes) whereas tempo is just one continuous run. Tempo pace is slightly slower than threshold but effort is more or less the same as there is no recovery in between.

I prefer to split my threshold training 2x15 minutes with 3-4 min recovery, so the rest between sets allows me to recover well and my muscles don't accumulate excess lactic acid, it's a kind of effective approach

For sure 🙌🏻 it’s always good to add in a few different types of tempo/threshold sessions. They all have their benefits

@@justalilbester but my max heart rate can go up to 180 bpm :D and average is around 170 bpm xD your HR is actually great for threshold session, 163 is a cool number

I've always bought Garmins, but this watch looks as good, I feel like garmins are pretty overpriced when their competition is getting better!

Threshold = 10k>1 hour effort / Just under LT2 Tempo = Half mara to Mara effort / Closer to LT1

This one is a lot more volume, and you do get some form of relief with the ‘easier’ kms. Where as 5k tempo is straight effort throughout

Hi Nick Thanks for the great video as always. I’m following your plan in preparation for my first marathon this September. Just did 1km under/over 8 sets (with 6km warm up and 6km cool down) as a quality long run 11 weeks out. 8km under (4:09/km) 7km over (4:23/km) Average 4:16/km, 15km (28km long run in total). 11 weeks to go, what would be a good goal to set? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you! Book shakalaka 🤜

Focusing more on road running for now. Perhaps I’ll embrace the trails at a later stage.

@@justalilbester nice yeh . I just found trails actually improved my times on road. I guess it's the varied terrain giving the legs a work.
