Wow! That was a lot of work. Very informative and surprising. I have a few Leopard motors and I believe that there overall quality is cansistant. Glad to see they r competitive also. Nice work. Will try one of the Tomcats next purchase. Ur videos are helping to get me in the right direction.

John, Thanks for the comments. I'm VERY happy this material is helpful. My #1 Goal is to provide useful and reliable information. I will ABSOLUTELY be getting a Tomcat for my next couple of motor purchases. The Leopards are nice too, but that Tomcat has my undivided attention right now.

I feel the same way about the Cobra wow and I think I am going to look at Tom cat motors Great Review John i really appreciate the hard work you do to make this a great comparison and yes I did stay all the way to the end .As to the Aesthetics i have no value to what a motor looks like 90% of the time you cant see it .Again thanks for the great review

Thanks Robert. This was a tough one to make and I think tough to watch, but I believe the data gathered is very valuable. I was completely gobsmacked that the Cobra didn't trounce everything on the table. I've SPENT the money on Cobras, so I kind of had a dog in the hunt so to speak. I'm really happy I scored with and without the subjective points too then. I also care far more about performance than looks.

Since I’ve used ALL these motors. I can say from my Real World experience, your results are pretty spot on. Although I personally favor the Leopard motor, probably because of its aesthetics and availability. I’ve only had one Tomcat and had great results with it. It’s Quiet, great power, very good longevity and it’s economical. I think the TOMCAT might be my NEW Go-To motor. OUTSTANDING JOB! Only letdown was that you didn’t have a Rimfire motor for the TOMCAT to trounce! 🤣🤣🤣 I wonder what the price per watt would have been for that motor.
@RCVideoReviews4 жыл бұрын
Hey Dave, I'm REALLY happy to hear you have some first hand experience with this group and your experience matches up with the testing. I am DEFINITELY going to get a couple of Tomcat's going forward. I just *KNEW* I had a .32 Rimfire in one of my planes. When I started to take the plane apart to get the motor, it turned out to be a .10. I was bummed about that too. Appreciate your comments, thank you.
@davidknutz33144 жыл бұрын
RC Video Reviews I thought your Escapade MX had the Rimfire .32? Maybe you got rid of that plane or changed the motor out. Anyway, this was a LONG but VERY INFORMATIVE video. I know it took a long time to put together but WOW! The TOMCAT performance blew me away. Thanks for all the hard work putting this together. Also, compared to the Rimfire, the Cobra is still a budget buy. Maybe only $30 or so but cheaper.
@RCVideoReviews4 жыл бұрын
The Escapade has a .46 Rimfire. The Cobra is a definitely a great savings over the Rimfire and is only slightly more expensive than the Tomcat. As I said in another comment, the Tomcat has my attention right now. I will absolutely be getting more of them for future builds.
@davidknutz33144 жыл бұрын
RC Video Reviews I knew it had a Rimfire! I was just wrong on the size. 🤣 BTW I have an Escapade MX in the box waiting to be built!

@@davidknutz3314 Don't worry, I was wrong about the size in the Slick 480. For some reason I thought it had a Rimfire .32 and it was only a .10. Way off, and that's MY PLANE. Hmmmm, Escapade MX with a Tomcat G46?? I should get a Tomcat G46.

I noticed that the VH G32 prop shaft base has no grooves, while I think all the others did. Any potential problem with prop slippage?
@RCVideoReviews4 жыл бұрын
Really good eye! On my Ryan STA I had two dremel sanding discs back to back between the prop and mount. That was mainly to help get the initial bite when tightening because there is nowhere to hold the motor. After the initial bite I don’t believe they are necessary. During the motor test I didn’t use additional support and didn’t notice any slippage.

I wish you would have included the eflite power 32 motor in this comparison.
@RCVideoReviews4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that would have been a good one. This was a huge test as it stood though. I love my eFlite Power 52.
@joem56394 жыл бұрын
With the Eflite Power 32 being a 770 kv motor and the Tomcat 32 an 830 kv motor could it be assumed the Tomcat is more powerful?
@RCVideoReviews4 жыл бұрын
@@joem5639 You can assume it will [likely] spin faster. I've seen KV variances up to 100kv over spec. I don't assume anything else about these motors. That's why I test the living daylights out of them :)

I’m glad you do these tests. I’m new to electrics as I’m a die hard glow guy. I bought a NIB eflite P51b e32 at my LHS with the intention of putting a 2 or 4 stroke in it but now I may just keep it electric. The ARF was marked down significantly but still expensive when you add up all the costs.

Well done test. I didn't watch the whole thing so maybe you made comment to this at some point. One thing to keep in mind is that watts/amps gives volts, not efficiency. Watts, amps and volts are all input/power consumption numbers. Thrust or RPM with same prop would be an output. So how much output (rpm, thrust)is created with given input (watts would be best but amps works too) would be how efficient the motor is.
@RCVideoReviews4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Steve. Forest -> Trees. The good news is that thrust and power aligned with the top two on wattage so I don't think the results would change in any event. I will keep this in mind going forward though. Thanks again.
@RCVideoReviews4 жыл бұрын
Steve, I re-calculated the efficiency numbers. The Cobra and Tomcat did swap places on that ranking, but it wasn't enough to change the final outcome. So THANK YOU for helping me out. I've updated the description acknowledging the adjustment.
@jimn6sxb6443 жыл бұрын
A better efficiency number would have been grf thrust per watt. In this case the Cobra is a clear winner with the Gforce G32 coming in a very close second. The watts/amp rating should be thrown out since this is just margin of error in your calculations/measurements. Having designed several motors myself, the laminations you are seeing on the Gforce G32 are just the iron layers that carry the magnetic field back to the magnets. They are layered like that because of skin effects. All the other makers are just adding a sheet to hide that. It makes no difference to the performance. I feel you gave Gforce G32 short shrift on the rankings as a result. In my view, the Gforce G32 is the best motor of the bunch for raw performance, not just value. And the Cobra isn't as bad as this would indicate although it's close to being the worst of the lot. Please don't take these criticisms to mean that I don't value your work. Most of your stuff is top notch and helps me with a bunch of stuff that I'm not that good with. Even this video, with it's minor flaws was of use to me. Thanks again. Jim PS. I see in other videos where you have changed your number crunching based on someone else's input. Bravo!

12x8 prop size on three cell on such large motor isn't enough you should of went at least 13" prop or 14" I'm just saying. 30 amps 300ish watts couldn't get a 6lb or 7lb plane off the ground very well. I'm sure it would be slow flyer.
@RCVideoReviews4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t use these motors at 3s on a 7lb plane. On 5s these were making 1000w+
