I had a Synchro before I got my Zealot 14. I wanted the hip pockets, tool pouch, and extra storage capacity of the Zealot. That mesh back on the Synchro was super nice though.

I originally looked at the Zealot but it was discontinued. I love being able to have a large amount of water with me because on some trails, I still run out. Hope your foot is feeling better!

If the raptor had the same ridgid mesh on the back, that is the one I'd buy, but the ridgid mesh keeps my back dry. Damnit. I really wish Osprey would use that same ventilation on all their packs.

The ventilated back panel on the syncro is a NON NEGOTIABLE, just buy a separate tool organizer if you need and if you really need a hip belt, buy the syncro 20. This is the real review yw 👍🏻

I own both. The Raptor is way better for cycling. It hugs your back better and the side handle straps are way more comfortable. It also doesn’t bounce around your back like the Synchro. The Synchro is better for hiking and keeps your back cooler. So both have advantages and disadvantages.

The hip straps on the Syncro 12 definitely can be uncomfortable. To keep the pack from shifting around, I need the straps pretty tight. As you mentioned, this makes them cut into my sides and can be a pain after awhile. Great pack otherwise!

Nice review! I just ordered the Raptor 14 and waiting for it to arrive! I plan to use it for mtbing. I was on the fence between the Camelbak Mule or Raptor 14. Then I saw Osprey makes other packs and was like great now what. After seeing this review video I picked the clear winner! That tool pouch roll did it for me! That Syncro with a rain cover didn't do it for me. Such a waste in my opinion!

I’m curious if the Raptor has the side water bottle pockets like the Synchro does? I know the smaller Raptor 10 does NOT but from the videos I’ve seen it looks like the 14 MIGHT have a place to slide a water bottle in on the side?

The raptor 14 does have a spot for water bottles.

Osprey makes good stuff, with a life-time warranty. Too hot in FL for backpack. When I went from hardtail to full suspension, I lost the ability to have two bottle holders on the frame. I went with the Osprey Savu hip pack. I am looking at the hikelite, raptor, or syncro series. With your experience which would you prefer? I would use it for short hikes, & bike rides. I use water bottles more then hydration packs.

I don't have any experience with the hikelite model but I like the Raptor over the Syncro. The removable tool pouch is a feature that I really enjoy. The hip pockets/wider straps also help with my comfort level. Osprey makes very high quality and durable packs that come in a lot of different options. Definitely let me know which one you go with and your thoughts on it.

Hello, can you tell me what year your raptor 14 is? I recently bought one but mine looks different, the decals are different so I’m concerned I may have bought a counterfeit. Thank you.

If I’m deciding between the raptor 14 and syncro 20 which has the hip straps, which one with different back panels would be better for running? Because I would like to do both running and biking with one of em.

Sorry for the late reply. I've never used the the syncro 20 but after checking it out and assuming it uses the same system as the 12, I would say that the Syncro is probably more comfortable on the back for both biking and running. The Syncro seemed to have better airflow than the Raptor. I hoped this helped!

I've the Raptor on order but I sweat buckets with anything on my back. How much better is the back ventilation on the Syncro?
