Cara, your channel is one of the best regarding alcoholic beverages. I’ve been following your channel since it’s start. It’s success is - besides your natural beauty - attributable to how you make your point succinctly and instruct in a non-condescending way. Similar content providers often talk down to the viewer and engage in never ending sophomoric humor. The best compliment that I can give is that you make me, a non-drinker, want to drink. Keep up the good work!

Nice one, Cara, and you've been summerizing the topic better than me (my video is way longer because I took the risk to explain my feelings about how the different glasses handle the whisky & restitute it, trying them along, so it is much more whisky fans oriented than yours but I found yours perfect for any type of audience & people who will have a bar experience as well, while me it is more "home" oriented consumption let's say), Cheers ! (I'll be happy if you watch it some day, I will be curious of your opinion). Btw, I am adding your video in my Cocktails Playlist but also in my whiskies playlist !

I find it quite important to try out several different glasses for tasting. We had blind tastings were the same whiskey was in different tasting glasses ( two different copitas, Glencairn and Túath) and we wouldn’t have guessed that it was the same spirit. Try and error for each bottle

This may seem a bit weird I like a large wineglass (typically red wine) I can get the mouth and the nose right into it, maximun exposure - lots of vapour and and as it's a bit bigger, it dosen't burn the nose hair so much (although one always has to be carefull with cask strength!) Thanks as always wounderfull work!

I finally bought a glencairn and I can’t believe the change in aromas and tastes I get from the different whiskeys I have tried. After many years of not liking any Scotch I have ever had...I found one. It’s a start. I have found many different flavors and smells from all sorts of different Irish and Bourbons too. I have been a beer guy since I was first legal back in the early 90’s and after living in Belgium for a few years and sampling their beers I shouldn’t be surprised that the glass can shape the flavor.

Another good glass for drinking whisky neat is the Kentucky bourbon trail glass. It's somewhat similar to a Glencairn but has a wider mouth that doesn't require you to tip your head all the way back to get a sip. It does a good job of funneling the aroma to the nose but not as well as a Glencairn.
@davidbroman83913 жыл бұрын
For casual consumption I prefer a glencairn glass for most whiskey and a rocks glass for strong peaty whiskey. If I’m tasting or treating my best friend to a special dram I really like the Norlan.

I recently bought a pair of cut crystal glasses from Glencairn which they call “mixing tumblers” (part of the Skye range). Similar shape to a hurricane glass but without the stem. Of course, the rim is too narrow for giant ice cubes, but I have a mould for smaller spherical ice cubes (or ice spheres, if you prefer), and swirling the ice around the base of the glass like a pinball is enormous fun.

Sissymary's. A dirty coffee cup wiped out with a shop rag is perfect if that's all you have! Any thing that holds whisky is just right. That said, I usually go with a glencairn or rocks glass. A glencairn makes slow sipping and savoring a bit nicer, but the rocks glass fits my hand well. Cheers!

There's a Canadian Glencairn too (supposedly intended for Canadian whisky) which is nice to use, it's wide like the tumbler/rocks glass but still narrows slightly like the tulip bulb shaped classic Glencairn, sort of splitting the difference between those two types.

I had been shopping for some glencairns recently, until my fiancée gifted me a pair of Neat glasses. They're really quite nice and actually work as described with separating ethanol vapors from the spirit's aroma, but just like Cara said, the ergonomics are also important and the Neat glasses are a bit unwieldy.

How do whiskey stones work ? Dave Arnold says there is no chilling without dilution.
@EricHonaker3 жыл бұрын
I have a set. They aren't much good for chilling, really. If you have a room temperature bottle of whiskey, the amount of chilling you get in the glass is barely noticeable. However, it would probably help delay warming for a spirit that you pre-chill.
@BehindtheBar3 жыл бұрын
I think Dave Arnold only says that in relation to actual ice- you can obviously chill things using other substances e.g. gel ice packs etc, it just doesn’t tend to come up in bartending too much haha! But as Eric says they’re definitely not as efficient as ice.
