Whenever I start learning a new programming language, one of the first things I consider is how to set up my environment. It's exciting to observe the changes between different types of programming languages and their respective IDEs. There are certain constants that will remain no matter what you are using. There are features in one IDE that make more sense within that context than another. And even while every environment is distinct in a way that makes it difficult to compare to any other, one can still have an all-time favorite. In this video, I'm discuss Integrated Development Environments, what are they and how to pick the “right” one.
I like making videos that describe big ideas. For me, an IDE was just something I picked up along the way when I learned my first programming language, Java. The IDE we used was NetBeans. But I’ve never had a lesson on IDEs for their own sake and that was the motivation for this video.
