What is the best mechanical pencil?

After doing a bit of research, the pencils within this group are the ones that I found to be the most reoccurring among other top 10s and top 5s whether they be from youtube videos, comment sections, Reddit posts, and more.

Here is my list: For writing or EDC the best pencil is the: Pentel Kerry. For drawing, Faber Castell TK 9400/TK 4600 and Pentel Graphgear 500, are the best. For Sketching, Koh-I-Noor 5347 with their 4B/2B leads or the Russet Sepia/Dark Sepia 5.6mm leads, are the best. Honorable mention, Pentel P205 (Classic beater pencil, that can do it all) Rotring Rapid Pro 2mm (Your luxury lead holder for either EDC or drawing) , Koh-I-Noor 5340 (makes for either an EDC bombproof pencil for taking notes, which writes beautifully or even as a sketching pencil!)

@@Wlados_assasin Way inferior tool. It has enough flaws, so it doesn't come close, to the Pencils I mentioned. Flaw No1, the Tip wobbles, loses it's precision can not draw accurately. Flaw No2, They break easily after some use, the flaw is where the 2 main parts of the body, screw together.it's all cheap thin plastic, that even if you don't drop the pencil, eventually breaks. Those are only some of it's flaws, not all of them. Graphgear 500 and the P200 series, are flawless pencils, and the 500 provides better precision and balance too. So you pay way less money, and you get a way better performing tool ,that will also last you WAY longer. Some people, have these pencils, for many decades, when the 1000, doesn't last a year or 2 before it breaks.

The Kerry is good for jotting down notes. I wish they made a larger version.

Mid 1990's era Pentel Side-click. From when it had the hard body tube without the weird rubber padding that would wear out. Supposedly some are still out there in the wild, but I'm holding on to the one I have.

The Stock Lead on Pilot S20 is probably the Pilot Neox High Purity Graphite, that lead came in stock when I bought my Pilot S3's. the smoothest graphite leads ive ever used on a mechanical pencil ever, I use 2B and 4B personally and they're smooth and really dark(using it for drawings). Really nice review btw, also best of luck to your studies.

Still not as great as the Pentel Lead and the Pentel Pencils. Ain Stein is the best lead on the market. Pentel Kerry the best edc/writing pencil, Graphgear 500 is the best drawing pencil and the P205, is the best inexpensive alltime Classic,a beater and a do it all pencil ever! Pilot is really good too, just not that good. When it comes to pens though, Pilot is my favorite along with Sailor and Visconti.

@@greekveteran2715 not a fan of graphgear 500, its too heavy for freehand drawing. Its really good for technical drawing tho. For freehand drawing, i currently use the Pentel Graph 1000 for Pro. But interested on Pentel orenz nero maybe ill buy next month to try.

@@WindMills_ Even though, it's all about personal preference, it's also about what we're used to, The Graphgear 500 is choice for many artists. It's the most precise I've used which leads to better free drawing too. It might feel a bit heavy, but if you look at the numbers, or try other pencils like Kaweco, Koh-I-Noor 5340, Rotring etc, it's not heavy, but rather light. I've seen comments and reviews, complaining that the Graphgear 500 is too light for their tastes!! PS I'm going to get the Pentel Orenz with the metal grip next! Those 2 you mentioned, are also in my wishlist!

if you can find it the Pentel Twist Erase GT is a good every day pecil. It has the same retractable tip as the Orenz so it won't snag in your pocket or bag, and you already know how good the eraser is.
