It's horrible in terms of CPU usage, esp. @ 96khz (I end up using Audiogridder to offload it), but it sounds AMAZING - just a tiny bit applied can add a 3d depth missing from just about every other reverb vst I've ever tried, and I've tried a lot, and have quite a few. Definitely best used as a send effect. The Arturia one is good, too. And Little Plate I like layered in with others (I don't like it as much on its own).

@@boimesa8190 The sound of a plate reverb is often preferred because of it's diffusion and density over other types. If you want the most diffuse and dense reverb possible, this is how to create it. I've bought the perfect plate a while ago, not giving it a good enough testing (it was on sale). That drop off gets quite bad with certain instruments. It doesn't just fade fast, but smoothly: it fades step-wise. Higher frequency ranges just get turned off from high to low like someone is flipping switches. That algorithm of theirs is strange. It works better as a creative effect reverb than natural reverb imo, which is does well with all its extra functions.

They are all good. The main question is best for what? It depends of your situation, mix, genre etc. I would use anyone of those and sculp it further to my needs. In the end, audience would recognize the diference only if you slap bitcrusher at the end. :)

One brilliant one you might have missed. Golden Plates by Kush developed with Relab. It's genius imo. Kush knows compression, Relab is top-tier reverb. Give it a shot.

I think ReverbShaper from Cableguys is the best one, because of how tweaked you can get it. Plus you can add your own IR (Impulse Response).

One of my most vivid memories from peoples high school was when our mix/master-enginer/teacher played us two songs and asked us what we heard. Some said the snare sounded fatter in the second one, it sounded more compressed or mastered, the whole mix sounded more polished and objectively better if you asked anyone in that classroom. After listening a couple of times, without being able to come to a conclusion we all agreed with, the teacher told us the only difference between the audioclips were a couple of db's in volume. There were more than a couple of db's in level difference when you first compared these plugins and that makes it really hard to accurately hear the difference in tone the different plugins have.. also would like shorter more effective videos, more of what you would expect in a good video with the title you give it, and less opinions on things that aren't revolutionary or useful information.

When auditioning the default settings, keep in mind that some developers set the mix knob to 100%, assuming that most people will use the reverb on a bus as opposed to inserting an instance into each channel's effects box, In which case, a 50% setting would be more appropriate..

I am a huge fan of Plate Reverbs. I tried many different plugins , Arturia, Trans Atlantic, Soundtoys, UVI etc. The best you can get ITB is of the 3rd party developer Cupwise FX (Acustica Audio Nebula commercial is required for those). It has depth and attitude!

How come there are hardly any spring reverb plugins?? The spring reverb in Amplitube is pretty good but I want to be able to run it 100% wet on a bus and without the CPU of the entire Amplitube plugin.

The Sunset Sound Reverb is my go-to Reverb. It is a bit CPU-intensive (the first instance you load), but the interface is great, the chambers, rooms, plates, booths and the spring all sound great and distinctly different from one-another - one is always the right one. Tweakability is great and intuitive + there are more options "hidden" when you click on "options" under the pictures of the reverbs (like room-dampening and different positions/settings).

this was a lot of work, great job. as for feedback, i like this format but it's probably worthwhile to sometimes do it with a smaller selection in a little more detail, possibly with part 1 part 2 etc videos to shootout another group. and then there would be the option to ultimately shoot out the favorites from all of those previous groups. i understand the efficiency of using a snare, but a brief selection of other material (including human voice i hope) would probably be worthwhile.

Yours is fairly dark compared to all of them. It's taken many years for me to enjoy digital plate verbs. The only one I have out of these is the Arturia. I've played with the Abby Road on a friend's system. The Arturia sounds very nice and usable in any context.... and it's simple(my preference 😏 ). It's my main go to voc verb. The Abby Road also sounds very nice in context of a track. Valhalla is a great sounding verb period, but not my choice for pure plate duty. Could you do a saturation shoot out, please 😊🙏

The decays on a real plate are so irregular across the frequency range. it is what gives them such a great character. The imperfections are the charm. Digital versions using algorithmic decays fail to be as "broken" or imperfect as real plates, and it kills the vibe. Same goes for rooms. The only hardware reverb I've heard that actually sounded like a real room was some Sony unit that was like $10,000.
