Hey Emma! I am a 2 1/2 year plant parent and still have trouble propagating🤦‍♀️. Water has great roots, but I usually lose it when transferring to soil. Now I have some plants living in water. I've been trying out perlite, but I'm not sure I'm doing it right (water vs. perlite)..lol and the transfer isn't always successful😥. I'm having great success with sphagnum, but once they are doing well in sphagnum that's where they live..haha😅. I recently propagated adansonii straight into soil, it struggled for a while and I think it now has roots since it has perked up🤞. Maybe you can do a video on how to prop in sphagnum and perlite. As well as a transfer to soil video?🤷‍♀️Love your channel and hair!!

Thank you for yet another great video! Really love this What's Proppin' series I personally am a big fan of propagating in water with an air stone (+ some Clonex once I see some baby roots forming)

@Good Growing Oooh, I'm sure you would like them! They're tiny little bubble machines made to add oxygen in aquariums, but they're also super useful for propagating fussy plants! I have a cheap one (like $25) and use it to root trickier/slower aroid wet sticks like albo monsteras 😊 Absolutely not necessary for pothos, but really useful for plants that might otherwise rot if left in straight up water!

WOW great video thank you for sharing, I always wanted to try this experiment!! I also used to propagate in water but once I transferred to soil, they wouldn't do well so I now propagate directly in soil!! I have tried perlite and it does as well as soil in my opinion!!💖

I’ve always used water and I just recently bought a big square of Sphagnum Moss. I am currently rooting 7 cuttings of a Philodendron Mican that came as one long vine, and have them in water. I added some Liquid Dirt and Super Thrive to the water and the cuttings have been there for about three weeks now. I don’t understand it though because they’re in a propagation thing that has five tubes in a stand, plus I have a 6th cutting that’s in a jar next to them and they all have different growth. Oh, and one more cutting that’s in my kitchen window with a cutting from one of my Golden Pothos that broke when I was putting it on a moss pole. Most of them have a little bit of a nub of white bumps that I believe will be new roots, and one cutting has one long root almost two inches long!! The rest of them, which have aerial roots, so I thought they’d root up first, have done absolutely nothing, including the one in the kitchen. Do you have any thoughts about it? I’m also wondering if I’m being impatient and three weeks isn’t nearly long enough? I do top off the water of the one in the kitchen because it’s in a tiny jam jar, and I’ve completely changed the water once, rinsing the cuttings off as well. I’m not sure if that’s necessary, but I’ve heard that you should change the water every week- week and a half, so that’s what I did. I feel like I’m wasting the Liquid Dirt and Super Thrive though when I did so I’d love to hear thoughts on that! I almost forgot to say that since I now have Sphagnum Moss, maybe I should change them over to a prop box of sphagnum? 🤷‍♀️ I don’t have perlite, but I do have pumice. Can you propagate in pumice? I’ve never seen it done before, but I’m too chicken to try it with my Mican because it was a little expensive and I don’t want to lose it. Let me know your thoughts on all of this. I did post a picture of the propagation tube set on my Instagram if you’d like to see it. My username there is @mysticstitches. Thank you for sharing!! 💜💚🪴🥰

Somehow your message to me is missing, but I read it on my email. I should have been more clear on the super thrive and liquid dirt. I mix them in a gallon jug of water and then I use that water, mixed with tap water, so it’s even more diluted, to fill the jars.

Great video! It's a topic I have always wondered about! I currently have a TON of cebu blue wet sticks and leaf props in my perlite prop box. Wish me luck!

I recently saw a video where someone acclimated water roots to soil by adding soil to the water one teasponful at a time. Haven't tried it yet myself.

Can you add a touch of Miracle Grow to the plants in the clear/dark containers to provide nutrients? I had to stop and ask this question while it was fresh on my mind.

Perlite all the way! I started using it to propagate about 8 months ago and haven't looked back!! It's always been super successful and much easier to transition to soil than from water👍

Hi, I bought a pretty large pothos in a pot with no drainage holes. Any ideas on how to water it? Can I just pour out the water afterwards, or will I have to buy a nursery pot and repot it into it?
@GoodGrowing

for the cutting in perlite, how deep did you bury the cutting? was it touching the water or above water?
@GoodGrowing
@GoodGrowing 2 жыл бұрын
I did it so the cutting wasn't touching the water. it was only getting water through the perlite

@LindaEnfield
@LindaEnfield 3 жыл бұрын
@@GoodGrowing It’s magic but seriously straight from their website..... “CANNA RHIZOTONIC is a powerful, algae based, vegetative stimulator for plant roots. It contains multiple vitamins and is 100% natural. RHIZOTONIC adds more than 60 microbiological substances that considerably speed up the growth of a balanced root environment.” The effects are noticeable within days 😉
