So, I know licensing happens a lot with streaming services, but why do so many licenses for shows expire and aren't renewed, especially for older, yet popular shows? This is something that doesn't make sense to me. The other day, I noticed that one of my favorite anime shows from 2010 (Working!! or Wagnaria!!) was missing. Also, the exporting process is absolutely WILD. Why is it so complex when most transactions are generally under a 'send payment first, send product second' system? We don't go through this kind of paperwork when we buy from Amazon. I didn't go through this when I imported books from Japan, either. Is this system only for businesses, then?

Regarding licensing of shows, the network need to pay royalties whenever the show is carried. Lately many streaming services have been culling their back libraries to save on these costs. There are other reasons as well. In terms of exporting, if there exists a good relationship between two parties then it's much simpler. However, if they've never worked together before then neither wants to hand over the good or cash first. Hence the very complicated process.
