A strict 12-second test that the drivers have to pass 💪 But why is the cockpit exit test important?
In the final ‪@CrowdStrike‬ Safe & Secure episode, we explain why 👀

Watching on a 4K TV, the graphics & text in the intro to 0:12 look excellent, and they match the music's theme & tempo very well. The video image quality is great, but I don't see the need for hard-coded subtitles. If people need them, they could turn on the YT soft-coded ones. And who is Cameron with no surname? An engineer I've never heard of, or a spokesperson in team kit? I'm happy to hear from a spokesperson especially if more specialized staff could be better utilized.

My guess is this video probably being used as other means, displaying the video without the audio. Used somewhere like motorhome or an event, with the video playing on a screen soundless in the background. So hard-coded subtitles may be necessary

Reattaching the wheel is stupid. If they need to exit the car as fast as possible it is a big crash and the wheel isn‘t needed…

Maybe the steering wheel should be handed over to the marshal. Then, if the events calm down, the steering can be reattached.

if there is a reason you have to get out in under 7 secs I sure as well aint going to wait around to put the wheel back on

How often is the test performed? I would assume it's at every race

I agree that an F1 driver should be tested on how fast he can extract himself from his cockpit for safety, yet as an amateur auto racer I disagree that a mechanic should be allowed to hold his steering wheel--technically it's a steering yoke, adapted from aircraft steering yokes--because a mechanic will not be present after a shunt. The realistic & safer test is to have the driver 100% responsible for the extraction--lives can depend on it.

@@user-gc1zn5mn4p they hand it to a mechanic to prevent damage obviously in a real crash they’d toss it without even thinking about the 50 grand steering wheel

@@rcblitzfpv8346 Understood, yet as an auto racer who has been involved in some shunts--fortunately not too many--everything happens in a fraction of a second. You are reacting versus thinking--it is life or death.

but to attach the steering wheel in a real life scenario, what is the point? no point in "taking care" of the steering wheel if the car is totaled and driver is safe..
@VarunSarathy
@VarunSarathy Күн бұрын
That's only IF the car is totalled and undriveable. In the event that the car is turned off on a slope and the driver needs to jump out, it would be hazardous to not have the steering wheel in place for the safety marshals to steer it out of the way. Case in point - When Carlos Sainz's Ferrari caught fire on a slope in 2023.

It’s key for stewards to be able to move the car. Sure you don’t need to do it in a super serious situation, but the test is designed for most scenarios, where usually it’s ok to put the wheel back on. You’re also out of the car when putting the wheel back on so usually safe.

Well, the video doesn't answer its own question, 'Why is the test necessary?' Is this safety or a rather mindless FIA regulation? Surely, for safety reasons, say the car is on fire, a driver needs to be able to get out and away from the area - not wally about putting the steering wheel back on. If it's for security, I can possibly understand it might be for a breakdown so the marshals can manoeuvre the vehicle out of the way but then why within 12 seconds? I've seen plenty of racing incidents where the driver just sits in his car cursing his luck after an incident during the race - way longer than 12 seconds. Odd requirement.
