Honestly I hope DC Finest works out, I love that it has the Years highlighted on the back and on the spine. This line is gonna be so good for new readers and old readers, they collect a huge chunk of stories and are an alternative to Omnibuses
@thepartworkscomicsreader94888 ай бұрын
The labelling by years is really clever. Start with Barry Allen Flash and you don't have to worry whether it should be a volume 1 or whether there will be Jay Garrick volumes later down the line that should be numbered earlier. With the track record on discontinued lines anything they drop, which could be specific characters that aren't selling as well rather than the whole line, won't leave something like 2-3 and 7-10 are out ant that's all you get, same gaps but no numbers drawing attention to them.
@ellesse38628 ай бұрын
I was thinking about Jay while looking at that mock up timeline stripe on the back, Silver Age starts in the middle, so it implies we'll be getting Golden Age comics in the same bookline at some point.

Will get the first five, but would love some Perez JLA, Broderick Firestorm, Grell’s Warlord and some Bronze Age Superman (basically relive my childhood). Will also get DC vs. Marvel Omni. Just afraid the Elseworlds line will get lost in the shuffle. Like most people watching this channel, I’ll probably trade-wait. Keep up the awesome work Omar! Love this channel!!

I'll get Superman. From the look of the Flash mock up, on the back cover timeline stripe, I'm looking forward to the books before the Silver Age begins. What would I like to see in the future? JSA - All-Star Comics / All-Star Squadron / Infinity Inc / Legion of Super-Heroes / Fury of Firestorm the Nuclear-Man / Captain Carrot and the Zoo Crew / Omega Men Batman anything preCrisis on Infinite Earths / The New Teen Titans / Golden Age Captain Marvel, Captain Marvel Jr, and the Marvel Family / Charlton Comics / Arak Warlord / Arion Lord of Atlantis / Amethyst Princess of Gemworld / Creeper / Spectre / Madame Xanadu .. and a lot more. Best DC announcement in a long long time, I'm apprehensive and cautious, DC has burned fans a few times, hopefully this is the line that they commit to and sees profits and growth, only so many times people will keep giving them chances. Come on DC.

DC have launched lines with a cheaper price point on the initial releases before settling in to the regular price, the first Green Lantern and I think Superman releases in the Showcase Presents line spring to mind. They could well be doing a loss leader month of releases at $35 before settling into a $45 regular price.

From Wikipedia Kentucky was a southern border state of key importance in the American Civil War. It officially declared its neutrality at the beginning of the war, but after a failed attempt by Confederate General Leonidas Polk to take the state of Kentucky for the Confederacy, the legislature petitioned the Union Army for assistance. Though the Confederacy controlled more than half of Kentucky early in the war, after early 1862 Kentucky came largely under U.S. control. In the historiography of the Civil War, Kentucky is treated primarily as a southern border state, with special attention to the social divisions during the secession crisis, invasions and raids, internal violence, sporadic guerrilla warfare, federal-state relations, the ending of slavery, and the return of Confederate veterans. Kentucky was the site of several fierce battles, including Mill Springs and Perryville. It was the arena to such military leaders as Ulysses S. Grant on the Union side, who first encountered serious Confederate gunfire coming from Columbus, Kentucky, and Confederate cavalry leader Nathan Bedford Forrest. Forrest proved to be a scourge to the Union Army in western Kentucky, even making an attack on Paducah. Kentuckian John Hunt Morgan further challenged Union control, as he conducted numerous cavalry raids through the state. Kentucky was the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln, his wife Mary Todd, and his southern counterpart, Confederate President Jefferson Davis. Lincoln had declared, early in the war, "I think to lose Kentucky is nearly the same as to lose the whole game." 35,000 Kentuckians served as Confederate soldiers; an estimated 125,000 Kentuckians served as Union soldiers. Approximately 24,000 Black Kentuckians, free and enslaved, served as Union soldiers.

Kurtis, Flash of Two Worlds was issue 123, not 137. 137 was a later GA / SA crossover. Omar, Eisner's The Spirit Archives was an example of DC following through with a complete run. The DCU Archives however ended before many runs' ends, with some exceptions (GA JSA was complete).

I'm really interested to see what's going to happen with the DC Finest Green Lantern and the Jones run? I can understand why they wouldn't want to reprint his stuff (he's a monster, screw him) but he also did a near 4 year run on the character. With older collections you can release around his era but with these having the years on the spines are they just going to skip 1990 to 1994 for GL?

Aside from the obvious concern with DC about cancelling them, my primary concerns is size and/or paper quality. I don't want them TOO thick and the paper TOO thin. So I hope they don't make these +700 page, and used nice matte paper.

24:49 Omar: "I know I have a lot of viewers that don't like trade paperbacks, and I can see a lot of them skipping out on this." Funny thing is, I absolutely hate omnibuses for all the known downsides (too big, heavy, bulky, expensive [not per issue but per book]). Aside from that, they all look different from one another so it's not one, uniform line of comics (and I looove uniformity). I was so happy to discover the Marvel Epic Collections (through Omar and Kurtis!) and start collecting huge amounts of Marvel backlog through those. I will definitely start a collection of DC Finest later this year with these first volumes :D

I think these are some smart choices to start DC finest. GA Superman and SA Flash I skipped in omnis as the format is a little bit overkill for old stuff. The old DC archives were overkill too. I think this epic-like book hits the sweet spot between quality and price point. So far I'm in for all five. Only concern is DC's commitment to a long term plan. They've released so many lines and formats, one wonders if they'll commit to this one.

I'm in all 5 digitally, may get Batman in physical. I preorder nothing. I am extremely worried about DC actually sticking with the format as they have such a bad track record at this sort of thing. DC actions are once more baffling. Not sure who is running the show there in terms of collected editions, yet bearing in mind your main rival is doing an excellent job outselling you, it'd be just a matter of copy and improve their business model. It's difficult to understand how DC releases in omni deluxe format forgettable material such as Death Metal or Harley Quinn while leaving DC Finest material that is legendary in this low quality format. A simple demographics study tells you that most of the consumers interested in the material contained in these DC Finest books are over 35-40s with higher purchasing power on average than GenZ and late Millennials. Hence, it would make much more sense to release these DC Finest 80-90s materials in omnibus format for older readers and start the DC Finest line with more recent materials at affordable prices for those younger readers that, on average, have less purchasing power. Please note my comments "on average" as I am conscious that not everybody over 40 is rich or below 30s is poor. It's simply ridiculous how DC is dropping the ball when their biggest rival is showing them the way to do things. It's not about inventing the wheel, it's about copying it.
