What Is The Difference Between kW & kWh

Unless you work for the utility company or are an electrician, many terms on your power bill might as well be in a foreign language. Knowing the terms and what they mean can Save you lots! In this video, we will explain two terms that will get you to understanding your power bill and saving money.
WHAT DOES KW MEAN?
KW is short for Kilowatt which is a measure of electrical power. Knowing this will help you learn which appliances in your home are using the most power and how you can save money each month.
WHAT DOES KWH MEAN?
KWH is short for kilowatts per hour.
Most utility bills show you the kilowatts per hour (KWH) for the last 30 days, but with a simple equation you can figure out how much energy an appliance is using per day....
X WATT HOURS PER DAY DIVIDED BY 1,000
And once you figured out the wattage of your appliances per day you can figure out how much they used in the last 30 days.

Sigh. Ok, here's a real explanation. ↓↓ My toaster's label says 800Watts. Let’s say I’m going to use my toaster non stop for 9 hours a day (and let’s also assume that it won’t catch on fire or melt) My calculation would be 800 Watts * 9 Hours per day = 7200 Watt Hours per day. Now to find the Kilo Watt hours, You divide by 1000 like this: 7200 Watt hours per day / 1000 = 7.2 Kilo Watt Hours per day. Now we know I’m doing 7.2 Kilo Watt hours per day. If I use the toaster for 21 days this month (and each day I use the toaster for 9 hours) In total, it would be 7.2 Kilo Watt hours per day * 21 days = 151.2 Kilo Watt hours If that was the only device that used up electricity and my electric company didn’t have other fees and “community charges”... I could calculate my bill by multiplying the electric company bill rate (which is usually like 8 cents per hour or something) By the kilo Watt Hours I used this month and it would look like this: 151.2 Kilo Watt hours * $0.08 electric rate = $12.096 My bill would be $12.09 (I’m rounding off the 6 In $12.096 though the electric company might round up to $12.10) Note 1) You divide by 1000 because 1 Kilo = 1000 Note 2) Kilo Watt hours per hour = kWh Hope this helps 😁👍

No, it's kW & kWh not KW & KWh. The 'k' is short for kilo meaning times 1000. The unit is named after James Watt (he who watched steam kettles) so the initial is capitalised. The hour is just' h'. If you look at the suggested videos on the KZbin page you will note that many people make the similar errors

Well actually no, although this video is 3:30 minutes of bs, this one's not. We tend to misuse the term kilobyte as 1 kilobyte = 1024 bytes but the "kilo" prefix means x1000. The correct term is a "kibibyte" (often written KiB) which is exactly 1024 bytes.

I find hard to understand the way you explain. But I came here to ask coz this is the Ytube video that titled about kw & kwh. I was actually looking for an answer on kwa coz every time I looked up DC electric generator motor I always show kwa next to kw i.e. 15kw, kwa or 20kw, kwa and so on. I was expecting only to see the kw but what the hell is kwa!?! And if I could ask more Q. What is the difference between DC to AC Converter device and a transformer! Don't they function the same way? Does it mean, the AC generator produce AC electric current? Just like DC generator motor produce DC current. “kilowatts per hour”... shakes head... it’s not per hour. It’s kilowatt hours, which is x-thousandJ/1s x3600s. The time Coefficients cancel to become a measure of energy. kW is power, kWh is energy used due to said power consumption.

Confusing! You say power and energy several times without stressing that only kW is a measure of power, and that kWh is a measure of energy, because it includes a time component. Also, your example of Kilobyte equaling 1000 bytes was not a good one as it normally means 1024 bytes. In your formula what does "X" stand for, you don't say. I guess it means Watts? I can see why most electricians don't understand your explanation, I didn't! Very condescending.
