Worked 40 yrs. and had to stop due to medical condition. I just got my ssdi a few months ago. It's a blessing, it was tough waiting for 2years, but things are better now financially. I don't see this money as welfare, I put this money away for those 40 years and now I'm using it that I need it.

social security benefits for seniors are an essential safety net for many, but it's also crucial to plan ahead and invest wisely for your retirement. Diversifying your investments across can help build wealth over time. It's never too early to start saving and investing for a comfortable retirement. I’m 63 and my husband 65 we are both retired with over $3 million in net worth and no debts. Currently living smart and frugal with our money. Saving and investing lifestyle made it possible for us this early even till now we earn monthly through passive income. ....

How much does it cost ? Thank you
@jennifergordon81342 жыл бұрын
@@biffagump8B It doesn't cost anything out of pocket. Their fee comes out of your back pay from your disability back pay. The social security administration will only allow them to take a certain amount. They do not get paid unless you get your disability. I was turned down the 1st time we applied but Citizen's disability with my approval applied again right away. I went to their doctor ( my choice) and was approved the second time around. This was lucky for me many have to apply a 3rd time before approval. I am told almost everyone is turned down the 1st time. I didn't pay anymore for this. Citizen disability tells you up front how much you will pay. You never have to pay out of pocket it comes out of your lump sum. After this you receive monthly payments. You need to know how much you can make if you ever try to work part time. This way u will not loose your disability. Each person's monthly pay is different for their condition. Hope this helps.

There are two programs that people commonly think of as ‘Social Security Disability.’ They’re called Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). The two programs have the same medical requirements for what makes a person disabled, so the major difference between them is the non-medical requirements. SSDI is based on the taxes you paid into Social Security while working. To be eligible for SSDI, a person must have worked full time for at least 5 of the last 10 years at a job that paid Social Security taxes. In contrast, SSI is a need-based program, so anyone who is disabled can be eligible if they fall below a certain amount of assets.

I quit working in 2014. Haven't worked since due to being sick most of the time. My Dr has run test on me and can't find anything. I filed for disability in 2018 and turn down. Again in 2019. Was turn down. Now I'm 64 and thought I was old enough for ssi. Turned down. Told to reapply when 65. I feel like I'm in a easy stage of dementia. I keep forgetting things within minutes and very confused. I guess I'm not smart enough to understand any of this. Please help. I'm glad I got this all out before I forgot

Back pay: I’m interrupting one year prior to application as a year before I filed for disability. Is that correct? Or are you saying you only get 12 months of back pay?
@CitizensDisability Жыл бұрын
Hi, and thank you for commenting. The total amount of retroactive payments may go back to the date that someone became disabled, and it depends, in part, on the disability application date. Please reach out to your local SSA office directly for more information.

Northwest Ohio here: I’ve recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. My doctor won’t release me to return to my job because my condition is not stable enough to return to work. I’m so scared that i won’t be able to support myself. I’m thinking of filling for SSDI or SSI, I’ve worked for many years so I’m guessing SSDI? Should i file for both? Not sure what to do.

I believe you apply for SSDI first. If you're denied you file an appeal and will be able to apply for SSI. I saved every single Dr's visit and mail from my medical provider/s. I finally got approved, took four months. Make sure you keep your mail organized and have an active phone number because they will call and let you know you're approved. but for sure make sure you file a appeal when prompted.

@@tylerdonald6050 I was approved for SSDI beginning of February this year… took around four months. I completed the process on my own without any problems or issues. I had post beneficiary meeting few weeks ago with SSA to review the back SSDI pay. I’m very thankful to be approved so quickly… sadly I’m struggling with Parkinson’s, which is extremely difficult to deal with.

Please explain to me what Is the meaning of SSSI Thank you
@CitizensDisability3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rosy! SSI is a need-based program, so anyone who is disabled can be eligible if they fall below a certain amount of assets.

You solved an ex's debate we had today re: ssi and ssdi. At 59 I'm receiving ssdi. We have an adult son who is o ssi. And x husband recently retired and IMHO should have been collecting his ss retirement from the day he said goodbye to the large, nationwide retail conglomerate he worked for for 27 years. We live and learn. Married 17 yrs, divorced and friends about 12. Polite debates.

@adamkline1608 Жыл бұрын
I don't know it depends on how much you are making now. what I make covers a house payment. If yours just covers utilities I would be moving up to SSDI. I get snap for groceries and I get the utilities paid by someone else.
