In this lesson, you will learn what the distributive property is in math and why it is important. The distributive property is used when we have a term or number on the outside of a parenthesis where there are terms added or subtracted inside. Another way of saying this is when we have a single term multiplied by a binomial term. In this case, the distributive property is used to multiply the outside term into the parenthesis to the terms that are inside. We distribute the term from the outside to the inside, multiplying as we distribute. The distributive property is used extensively in all levels of math, algebra, calculus, and beyond.

I have used Jason's videos for both my homeschooled kids and they have been a life saver. He explains things so simply and in a step by step way. I have even used it for more advanced math such as trigonometry.

Thanks a lot. I am seriously impressed with your infinite set of whiteboards. I am getting older, and I am having so much fun retracing the basics from decades back. Now I'm finally calm enough to just do the problems and enjoy the solutions for themselves. Feels like somewhere in the middle of playing a game and looking at art.

@@yashika8418do not judge OP. Some people do not/haven't had access to formal learning. OP could of had a poor childhood in which he/she didn't learn math or similar things. Although the most likely explanation for them not knowing this is that they probably didn't give a fuck in school or pay attention, anyways Have a lovely day.

Hello. Let me sum up things quickly, and why people said "1" or "6" is the answer *1. Why is "1" the answer for some people?* Basically, they add 1+3, get 3 so it looks like: 6/2(3), they still have to remove the 3 so they apply distributive property which means the 2 from 6/2 gets multipled with the number in the parentheses, which looks like: 6/(2x3) then after that, the result is 6/6 which is 1. *2. Why is the result for some people 6?* Simple answer: they did not do PEMDAS or any order and just went left to right, AND did not multiply the number outside and inside the parentheses Demonstration: 6/2(2+1) -> 3(2+1) -> 3 + 3 = 6 But, the real answer is 9 because of PEMDAS. Demonstration: 6/2(2+1) -> 6/2(3) -> 3x3 -> 9 *That's why kids, listen when you're having math class. PLEASE*

I think distributive property provides flexibility for multiplication and simplifies it to a greater extent. Eg. 5×13=65 using DP 5×(10+3)=50+15=65 or 5×(15-2)=75-10=65.
