For people with PTSD, the fight or flight response can be an effective way to avoid unwanted feelings. But avoidance is not a long-term strategy for a happy life.

I'm going through a hard time now im single father of twin and we just recently moved . I'm very hyperviglant and always scanning my environment. Before it was just mainly out in public but now it's all the time the only time I feel safe is at work

Thank you, this was helpful for me. After the military I had PTSD quite intensely, now the symptom I deal with most is extreme startle reflex and the development of fight or flight in context of a real life situation. This seems to reactivate aspects of PTSD again. The VA's answer is pharmacology it is such an insult to those who served this country proudly.

Recovering from ptsd is by far the hardest thing I’ve dealt with. In ways I’ve hated the person I’ve become with my fight response. But I need to recognize that it’s not me, it’s my disorder

Grandfather was a soldier in brittish army. To be a man is to stand alone on the battlefield, the enemy all around me. When they come and they will come. They will come for the girl. You will never let them pass, you will fight. You will never quit, you will never give up, never give in you will fight to the death. Age 6 - 13. I suffer ptsd and bipolar

That was me, I hated feeling like my back was against the wall. When I said I needed to leave to calm down, and loved one would chase me down because her method was wanting to talk about it right then and there, so I would become aggressive

This is accurate as all hell. It's hard as hell to navigate this. I myself as a therapist and needing to go to therapy myself. Family can push my triggers which is so hard
