I always was different and questioned my preachers about stuff just like this. When I started observing the sabbath and keeping the laws of YAHUAH, things like wearing tassels came easy. His Spirit came into me. The hard part about this walk is watching family and friends walk away.

I started wearing mine a couple years ago every time I went out, then one day I didn’t because I had pants without belt loops and a co worker commented that I didn’t have them on. I haven’t not put them on since then. I know it’s more a commandment for me (us individually), not others, but it still struck me that people do pay attention to what I’m doing. Now if I could get my attitude in check and love people and not get offended by how I’m treated. That is the most difficult commandment for me.

Thank you Zachary, this has been something I have been struggling with lately. I've considered myself Hebrew for many years, but have always neglected this one simple commandment. Lately many people have been approaching me with questions about following Torah, and I have done my best to tell/show how easy it is to follow "The Law". Just a few days ago one of my best "students" asked me why I don't wear tzitzit, and I had no good answer for them. I was ashamed and felt like a hypocrite, but didn't do anything about it. Thanks for this message - it's my second "witness" this week, so I know I have to swallow my fear and start showing the world just who I belong to right away.

Nice commentary. I too was a "Baptist" among other denominations for about 30+ years until coming to Hebrew Roots understanding about 10 years ago. I remember laying at night as a young boy with a flashlight under my covers with my Bible. I also wanted to know why we didn't follow the commandments as they are spelled out in the WORD. I received a lot of "pat" answers from pastors for years. The tzitzit I started to wear about a year into this walk and people right away noticed and thought I was weird too. Very happy being "set apart"!

Good point. I’m wearing them always and only realize that I’m peculiar when a stranger approaches me and ask about the tassels. This so something I’ve pondered a lot lately. I don’t see many in this movement wearing tassels and have even heard Torah “pastors” say it’s ok that some do and some don’t, but I’m like, how can you say you follow Torah but not keep the simplest commandment to wear tassels? As with most of scripture the Bible often doesn't focus solely upon "how" but rather "why". If we go through the word asking how then we are asking the wrong question. He gave us that, not how long, what colors (only include a strand of blue), how to wrap them.....but WHY we need to wear them.

Hey Zach! I have a question for you. I hope this isn't a dumb question. So, I completely agree with people wearing tassels. It was a commandment given to his people that we should continue throughout all generations. However, I had a question about the color of the tassels. I found information on the threaded color actually being a violet (purple) instead of blue. My dad also taught me that purple was a color royal kings wore back in that time period. I could be off but I wanted to hear your thoughts? I found this information when looking up the strongs number in blue letter bible for the verse in Numbers 15:38 where it talks about the color of the thread in the tassels. The strongs number was H8504. The description stated this... "I. violet, violet stuff A. violet thread B. violet stuff or fabric II. (TWOT) blue (covering spectrum from brilliant red through deep purple)" Just let me know! I just want to make sure I get it completely right in doing this. You are one of the few people I look up to when it comes to knowledge and opinions involving biblical stuff. Thanks!

Brother Zach, I'm very much inclined to agree with you, but I've been met with the following argument, and I would appreciate your thoughts: "If you are *in covenant relationship* with the Most High in Messiah are are *indwelt with the Set-apart Spirit* with the Torah of Elohim placed *in your mind* and *inscribed on your heart,* AND YOU CAN'T REMEMBER the commandments of YaH to obey them, you got bigger problems than tzitzit can fix. The people of Num 15 did not have what we have. Remember the covenant He has made with us is NOT like the one He made with 'our fathers'. This instruction was ADDED to the Book of the Law, which rested OUTSIDE the Book of the Covenant that lay INSIDE the ark. Unlike the Book of the Covenant, the Book of the Law is amendable in certain respects (Heb 7)." I responded with the example of the wedding ring. I also cited the example of Yeshua and even the "throughout your generations." In response to that last point, they cited other "throughout your generations" commands that we clearly don't do, understanding that they don't apply since Messiah's death, burial, resurrection and ascension, like Gen 17:12, Ex 30:10, Lev 23:14, etc. I'm still inclined to wear them because even if it's true we don't need to, I'd rather hear from Him on that Day, "So, you actually did not need to do that" rather than, "You read the instruction. Why didn't you do anything with it?" But I want to remain teachable, and so it is something I'm always willing to revisit and discuss ... It seems to be a really debated point indeed. I will say, though, that I think the hardest commandment to obey is to 'love one another.' Messiah actually says that it is BY THIS (loving one another) that men/the world will know we are His disciples/taught ones.

@gonzatribe73 жыл бұрын
@@Anamericanhomestead Yep! MORE than that, He is ONE with the Father, and He wore them. I've said something to that effect as well when confronted with these arguments, but then the opposed one will say, " ... there were certain things He did as Yehudi in that time and place, in compliance with custom and, or fulfillment of Torah-- *before* HE ushered in the New Covenant by the Set-apart Spirit sent to *indwell all* who believe in a way not previously experienced (as prophecied in Jer 31)-- that we don't do bc they just don't apply today. "If we're going to use that argument," they continue, "why aren't we out there, healing the sick?" I'm just citing examples (paraphrasing, rather roughly) of the arguments I've encountered. These arguments haven't convinced me not to wear them, but if I'm being honest, they provoke a bit of insecurity, and sometimes I stumble to defend my actions when met with certain arguments.
@jamesw.34913 жыл бұрын
Meh, wearing tassels are the EASIEST command/instruction. Seriously, of all the commands, it's the absolute easiest. Like putting on a shirt, you put on your tassels. The hardest commands, are the ones that deal with sins of the flesh/being in the flesh. How hard is it to NOT commit adultery of the heart? Half naked women everywhere you look. Magazines, TV, advertisements, you name it. Sex and sexuality are part of our society. Come on Zack! Get serious. I don't care who or why people want to argue about wearing tassels. It's a clear command. There isn't a "struggle" in this command, any more that there is about eating clean. You are either with the Father, or you are not. I don't care what those are NOT with my Father, think. I sure don't waste my mental bandwidth pondering it either. It's fine to attempt to show people the way, but you aren't going to change someone's mind, who refuses to listen. No amount of debate is going to change it. Narrow is the road to everlasting life, and few people find it. The end was foretold from the beginning.
@brentfenske33172 жыл бұрын
Some of it could be apprehension because it is visible for other to see. Many people think it's just a Jewish thing, especially Orthodox Jew. Once again antisemitism is on the rise and so they think that wearing tassels makes them a target. I admit I was nervous the first month that I wore them. Now it's been over five years and if I leave the house I feel naked without them. You have a valid point with adultery of the heart but that's also an inward struggle. You don't find others lashing out at you or intending physical harm based on a heart issue that they can't see. Just my opinion. Take care.
@keliyah7773 жыл бұрын
I can think of dozens and dozens of commandments much harder to keep than wearing a tassel. Honest truth (from what I’ve seen in new Torah observers myself) is they are becoming much more focused on washing their inward parts than their outwards, and doing these things take a lifetime. Torah teachers hardly speak on our inwardly uncleanliness which is causing a big problem for a true revolution. The tzitzits, honestly, when I read about them, was something I couldn’t wait to put on because I was so deeply in love with everything I was reading about the One who just saved me. But also remember these tzitzits were not given from the beginning, they were not around Abraham’s waist to our knowledge. And the reason they were instructed, due to context, I believe is because of a stiff necked rebellious people. They acted as children and so were treated as children in return. Of course Yahushua wore them because the Word became flesh. He wouldn’t qualify without observing what was given for the people He came to save (Hebrews 2-4). But as I stated in the beginning, there are dozens more of Yah’s commands which highly outweigh a tassel. It’s not about if it’s good or not...believe me. If one is truly following Yahushua with all His mind heart and soul, he will come around and put some on. It’s a love we have for Him. But I have a testimony of my own, where Yah ripped my tzitzits off because my inwardly man failed to meet His requirement. That testimony told me in that moment that He cares a whole lot more about the heart than appearance. But debating over things like this instead of how to love our neighbors AND our enemies isn’t worth it right now. A true shepherd needs to turn back His sheep towards Him...a lot of division in like-minded believers these days because of an outward appearance instead of a focus on the inward man. Love you guys, shalom

@@nevidaniel453 You don’t understand. I loved the Tzitzits more than the matters of the heart. I was a hypocrite, a white washed tomb. The message was disciplinary, “you aren’t walking worthily to wear My tzitzits”. I was sending a bad message, and I believe Yah does these things to protect His name. It’s almost a form of one being “cut off”. Believe it or not, Yah cares a whole lot more about how you look on the inside than out, and if the greatness on the outside doesn’t agree with the inside, He will make sure you know it because whom the Father loves He chastens. Anyways, thought I’d help clarify, shalom

@@keliyah777 i do understand. You wore the tzitzit, but because you had unresolved heart issues, you then felt like a hypocrite. But remember, the tzitzit are there as a reminder to keep God's commandments. There have been times where i didn't feel worthy of wearing mine. And honestly I'm not. But that's where the problem is. Hasatan wants to remind us we aren't worthy, and so we take away the thing that reminds us of our sin and the way to properly live. The tzitzit are not magical. They are simply a reminder. Its like a wedding band. Its not what makes the marriage work. Its a reminder of your covenant with your spouse. This is why, in movies, you see a man take off his wedding band before he engages in an affair. He didn't want the reminder. This is what hasatan wants you to do. Take off your wedding band (tzitzit) so you aren't reminded of your covenant with God. I truly hope this helps. To think of your tzitzit as a wedding band. A sign of your covenant. To yourself and to the world. Being reminded of the commandments is what brings us to repentance. Shalom!

@@keliyah777 beautifully said. Didn't miss a beat. And I think this brother just misunderstood... Bless you! More need to hear this message. So many who are the first to throw stones, will be struck down themselves. We must all pray for repentance yes for outward sin, but even more deeply for inward sin. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. 9Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. I wrote this above, but here's my input: Some people have very artsy ways to tie tsitsit, in all sorts of knots etc. which is fine, yet the Command simply reads: “Speak to the children of Yisra’ěl, and you shall say to them to make tzitzit on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and to PUT A BLUE CORD in the tzitzit of the corners. (Num 15:38 ) I' not so artsy and bought myself a roll of blue cord and tied them to four points on all my pants, shorts, jeans, and hey, that's what the Command simply says! Traditionally, the Israelis would have a cloak that had four corners, which would have extended tassels and a blue cord would be intertwined into whatever color the cloak was. Over time this "cloak" (Tallit) has been traditionally white, which is why most use white and blue to make nice looking tsitsit.

Think of Indian fringes on their clothing or fringes on the orders of even costumes we see at times. Etc...the point is fri get WITH ribband of blue, which strongs defines as violet. The ones I have now are Sephardic tzitzit which are only 5 inches long. I'm new to this movement since March so I decided to go with the shorter ones. I'm going to get longer ones soon. My question is should we wear them in all contexts? I usually only wear them when I'm shopping or going over to a friend's or family's house. I don't wear them when I'm doing labor or exercising. I find impractical to wear them while doing labor because it's easier for them to fall off or get torn up, and they don't tie around my gym shorts. What do you guys think? Is there anywhere in scripture where there is an exception for not wearing it?
@sherryl8173 жыл бұрын
I've not seen exceptions for not wearing them. Obviously you won't be wearing them at times like when showering etc. Tuck them in when you are working if you think they may get torn or lose one etc. You can also buy under garments kind of like a sleeveless undershirt that is made to wear under your shirt that has 4 corners to put the tzit tzit on and that would be a way to keep from losing them or having them be an issue when working out or something or just pin them on your gym shorts. I make a micro tallit for my husband that has 4 corners (not that that is necessary) but it has a loop to fit on his belt or he can pin that onto pants without loops with a safety pin etc. The point is that if you want to wear them you WILL find a way!! Have several sets...work ones...nice ones...gym ones... whatever you need. Learn how to make them so if you lose one or damage one you can make new ones no problem. 😊

I got a good memory. 😀 The Spirit reminds me the Commandments of Yah. I don't think wearing some gadgets has anything to do with honest spiritual life. It may be a good starting point for conversation though. I knew of one evangelist puting on a catholic priest outfit on street evangelism. It was in a Catholic country. My another observation is it can be an occasion for another religious showing off... just like priestly colar. A flashy label but not much of the content. I'm aware it's part of the history and I doubt was it part of Sinaic covenant. Wasn't it introduced after the golden calf event?? If so then not part of the COVENANT but a downgrade levitical police over infidelity of idolatrous people. The same application for circumcision. External devices are of lesser authority than internal work of The Spirit of Christ. Rom 2:26: "Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?" Shall not my without-a-gadget-remembering of the Commandments of Yah be counted to me as wearing of the gadget??? 😄😄😄😄😄 👍👍👍👍👍 Hallel u Yah

Most "Torah observant" people I have met do not wear tzitzit. I have even been criticized for wearing tzitzits, because I am a woman and "Torah observers" have told me that the instruction is only for men. They state that because the text says "tell the sons of Israel" that it is only for males, but the same verbage is used with dietary instructions. It really refers to all of those of Israel when you see that terminology. I had one man who got in my face about it at a Shabbat service and tried to make fun of me. I asked him what the purpose of tzitzit were and he could not answer. I informed him that Yah instructs us to wear them so that they will always be before our eyes, to be a reminder to us should our heart desire to go astray. I asked the man if he thought that Yah only cared about the heart of men and not women and of course he was silent. I assured him that it was just as important to Yah that women guard their hearts as well. I ended up leaving the man speechless. But what could he say? By the way, he was not even wearing tzitzits...
