I would say g flat/ f sharp is hardest because it has a dissimilar shape. C sharp/ d flat has a consistent shape. You don’t have to worry about getting that thumb in the right stop. Super easy scale to play!

C# major is easy for me ,, they key I find challenging as of now ,, though it's because I have not put much practice to it is E major

It's interesting how certain keys can feel easier or more challenging for each individual. With continued practice, E major could soon feel just as natural as C# major for you. Keep going!

G sharp minor! Not everything is sharped but there are also lots of double sharps. It's incredibly hard to read and learn a piece in that key

C# major is pretty hard but I think D flat major is easy, so I just play that one instead.

Thank you for your comment! Do you find one easier to read than the other, or is there a specific reason you prefer D-flat major? I’d really like to hear your thoughts!

@@masterofpiano3494 Many hymns are in Db, but I've never seen any in C#.

@@masterofpiano3494 Its more of a joke. Practically they are the same key, though C# is more intimidating to read. I do think of keys like that in terms of flats not sharps. Perhaps because I play with horn players a lot? Also I've had people tell me there really is a difference between D flat and C# but I never understood that.

Do not fear the black keys, they are your friends! I love the feel of C# major. It feels more comfortable to me than C major.

Agreed. While I like it written in D flat for easier reading, it is my favorite sounding key. It also sounds like a flat key to me on a piano because it is very dark compared with C and D major.

It has been suggested that, for begining students, the key of B major is actually easier to learn than C major due to the raised black keys preceding and following thumb crossings. I find the main challenge I have in playing scales which use all 5 black keys (B, F#/Gb, and C#/Db majors) is remembering which white notes the thumbs play; B major - the thumbs are against the right edge of the black keys; F#/Gb -- - the thumbs are against the edges of the 3 black keys; C#/Db - the thumbs are against the left edge of the black keys; ... :-| For me, the C#/Db melodic minor is more complicated than the major due to the changing 6th & 7th scale degrees. BTW -- next to in-person lessons or a good on-line teacher (or in addition to ..) I highly recommend Piano For All as an excellent resource -- especially for the price; it is well organized, with good fundamental basics and an efficient, flexible learning path (note -- I am a piano teacher ...).
