The military took snipers from every branch and ran them through an exercise and the majority of them either miss the Target or got other details wrong they then worked backwards to determine what range will every sniper in the military hit every time and that range was 200 m

Met Carlos Hathcock April 4th 1993..blew my mind that he was smoking a cigarette..just didn't think snipers would be smokers..he autographed one of his hats( which is in plexiglass on my mantle) and got my Pic with him..I've met some cool people but that was day was special..may he RIP..legend

I'm curious why you're surprised by that? Is it because of the level of discipline? If so I have to agree. If you're addicted to nicotine how in the world did Hathcock do that 3 day prone crawl through tall grass moving a few inches at a time. I'm addicted to nicotine and if I go one day without it I have intense brain fog.

I knew an sniper instructor in the 90s at what now has been renamed Ft. Moore! We had a welding fabrication business. Sgt Knox commissioned us to fabricate a heavy duty horse/camping trailer for hunting in Idaho after he retired. Listened to his stories were interesting for sure. Love the content, I am shocked Shawn did not know who Carlos Hathcock was… His son Carlos Hathcock Jr also served. Carlos according to history took on a suicide mission over the better part of a week to take out an NVA General weeks shy of rotating home. Crawled back into an M113 that hit a mine to retrieve wounded Marines. Wish I had the opportunity to shake his hand.

I found this interesting too. Especially bc he knew green beret school off hand. I mean at first I thought it was him giving nicholas room to elaborate. Kinda like he does with detection qualifications. But then when he reacted with the “wow” it did seem like he was unfamiliar. I never served and only am interested in military history and even I knew of that famous NVA stalk. Would be fun to go on a rabbit hole of Carlos having never heard of him haha

Hathcock was the man. A bit of trivia. In 1942, the deadliest female Soviet sniper in history, Lyudmila Pavlichenko (309 confirmed kills), was visiting the US and Canada. She was presented a Colt pistol by the US government, and a Winchester Model 70 by the Canadian government, now on display at the Museum of the Soviet Army in Moscow. The Model 70 would later be used by Hathcock in Vietnam. Useless trivia, but cool nonetheless.

He's right. I was not a Sniper I was a Mortarman and Signaller after the Rifle Companies. We often did exercises like that. Much harder than one would think. And what makes the Infantry Scout so valuable. Much harder than Point Target Reconaissance or Stalking for sure.

Super interesting hearing him talk about detection. I had a buddy say the exact opposite. But also makes sense given how prolific nicholas was in combat. My buddy couldn’t stalk for sht. And what always blew my mind is atleast in Afghanistan he talked about the median shot being a football field and he never took one more than 2 lengths. Idk why always stuck with me.

Hathcock is famous due to the promotion which is great in its own right. But look up Chuck Mawhinney. He just passed in February. He's the Corps deadliest sniper to date and a true legend. Not many outside of the Corps even knew who he was. He kept quite for a long time for his reasons, but once he did talk; there's some good reading material on him.

@THall-vi8cp
@THall-vi8cp 25 күн бұрын
@factanonverba6169 By his own estimates. Unfortuntely, that number is unconfirmed, as impressive at it is. Häyhä sniped Soviets as they marched by wearing uniforms that made them easy to see against the surrounding snow. It's a bit different than having to identify and stalk targets. Häyhä may have the most kills, but I wouldn't rate him as the best. I'd rate some of the female Soviet snipers above him, where it comes to skill. For example, Lyudmila Pavlichenko and Roza Shanina. I still wouldn't want him shooting at me, however.
